That got some more of the black off, and lightened it some, just not enough for what I want

It dries quick in the sun, so I could get multiple sessions.

Next i mixed up some acid at bleaching strength 1 hefty tbs/pint water

that got it a little further along, plus its approaching the shade im looking for..light blond

the grooves are clearing up now and almost reeady for the finish sanding on the edges, then reassemble and take the top deck section flat....im putting it together so i dont get any proud boards by sanding individually on the top surface.

Looking great Zool!!! I like the light blond look as well!! Really Nice Stuff!!!

Thanks, I'm gonna order one this week from HF. Hey just an FYI, on a hunch I have some "Bar keeper's Friend" from Walmart. It's a scouring powder with a bleaching agent and only costs a couple of bucks. I've been soaking my stainless hardware now for a couple of hours and it's stripping the oxidation off of the 45 year old stuff. Maybe something to check out...

The tumbler manual gives a chart of recommended media to use for each purpose, i just used some black glass media to try it out..its working but leaved a black soot on the hardware, ill soak them afterwards in something....

Its funny, whenever I search for home remedies, bar keepers seems to come up as a miracle elixir , but ive never actually seen it on the shelves, but never look specifically for it...I just figured a snake oil wagon would pull up one day with it :).....but its highly touted by some for rust removal from gel coat, metal, and such....Walmart huh?...ill take a look.....always room for another solution on my shelves, thanks

LOL Merry Christmas!

I use bar keepers friend on my stainless steel sink, works great......its a lot like Ajax powder. Never really thought about using it on anything else....hmmmmm, might have to experiment now!

When my 1st wife passed, I became a "single dad" for a while and took on the house work like you would a project in a shop. I found all of the quickest, cheapest, most efficient products possible. Did you know that the cheap $1 toilet bowl cleaner will clean a shower built up with heavy scum without scrubbing? Nothing else touches it. Heck, I even used Slimy Grimy in a weed sprayer on the showers!

They make Barkeepers in a liquid now too.

My wife bought me a tumbler for Christmas, we're in business. Thanks!

Update:

Happy Holidays Folks.

Yesterday I tackled the tedious task of figuring how to put the platform back together. 160+ screws later and I got it together.

then I got the wavy surface somewhat level. The teak started to gum up the paper and clog the pores, so I only took about a 1/16 off ist, then back outside for another cleaning. It actually exposed more black...so Ill have to keep working it.

So I wet it all down with brightener again

Now that is amazing! The temps for one and that teak wood was just waiting for someone like you to make it gorgeous once again. Amazing how well teak and mahogany hold up to neglect and can be made to look new once again.

Thanks guys, its almost done, just want to sand out any last black thats not inert from the chemicals...plus it needs to be 60+ to oil it with the watco...may have to move it to the tent to treat it.

I found a few pics of the coast guard plate sticker from another 28sf for sale....looks like enough info to get one made

btw troop, the belt sander worked great..i just adjusted the tensioner to allow it to stop spinning if i applied too much pressure...took about a minute to reform the edge.

Your an I/O, correct? I don't think they put max HP ratings on I/O's plates.
