Hey don't tell the rest of my tin pot buddies... :D but I read your whole thread over the past 2 days. I have to say wow, you're a very ambitious guy with a monster project that would intimidate just about anyone. You've done some great work that is very inspiring!

By the way how did the harbor freight thing work? Since we haven't heard from you I'm wondering if you are still putting the fire out. I was in there looking for some dust collection fittings.....the sales guy was helping another customer who ask "which one of these drills is the good one?".......I stood there thinking, "none of the above, they don't sell Milwaukee, Porter Cable or Dewalt". :D I hope you had a productive weekend!

i didnt open the tumbler yet to see, i just shut it off and will restart it today to run for a bit. I read some reviews where the gun guys use this to clean the brass casings and run it 24/7...but i just dont trust it hehe..

Milwaukee all the way for me, but lately been buying dewalt cuz thats whats on sale :)
I stil have my dads Milwaukee circular saw and 1/2" drill...I was there as a little kid when he bought them from a lumber yard (way before HD)...still work great!

Hey Zool lookin good you give me hope that one day I will be on my big blue grandma I didnt know that you could bring teak wood back like that. Good re-job on the bubble and also making a living is one of those necessary evils.

Welcome aboard Cellot, youre all caught up on the progress.....with the weather so crappy and Xmas closing in, its slowing me down a bit....so im basically just trapped near the inner circle of thought ;)

Theres a few bigger Bayliners being rebuilt here now, GSPSR is doing a Victoria, Tboner7864 is doing one too, Bigdirty is working on a Contessa...

Update:

Well the sun came out, and it got nice and warm out, in the low 60's....too uncomfortable in the shelter to glass, so I continued on the long platform process...

Outside temp = 61 deg F
Bubble temp = 88+ deg F
RH = 93+

So I dragged everything out near the hose and did some acid sessions on the teak.

brushed on a few coats of brightener strength oxylic acid, 1 tbs/qt of hot water

I let that set in the sun to do its thing

That got some more of the black off, and lightened it some, just not enough for what I want

It dries quick in the sun, so I could get multiple sessions.

Next i mixed up some acid at bleaching strength 1 hefty tbs/pint water

that got it a little further along, plus its approaching the shade im looking for..light blond

the grooves are clearing up now and almost reeady for the finish sanding on the edges, then reassemble and take the top deck section flat....im putting it together so i dont get any proud boards by sanding individually on the top surface.

Once I get it back together, im gonna see what i can do to smooth the rough cut edges using a long block to keep the contour of the assembled unit.

took a peek in the tumbler, doing its thing so far...

That tumbler is quite an idea. I'm gonna have to go pick one up.

Teak is looking great! I'd think a hand held belt sander ought to do the trick on the ends once assembled.

It was on sale at HF for $55...so far well worth it. Im using a fine media right now cuz thats all I have on hand, so it takes a while. Its like having a really slow helper, that never shuts up, cleaning the crud off hardware ;) (the admiral is out getting her hair done :bolt:)

When I took everything apart, I didnt follow my usual bag and tag method for the fasteners, except the ones that are location specific, like keeping push rods and caps mated. I also scored a big batch of marine stainless fasteners off ebay, with screws, bolts, nuts, and washers...got liek 700 assorted sizes for $25...so I can dig into those to replace whats too far gone.

Thanks troop, that may just save my arms a bit..so far ive been reluctant to use the belt sander on this teak but if i can pick up some finer paper fot it, and be careful....I think you may be right...plus I can work the curved ends while its all together.......

Im gonna head out there and see what can get done before the rain....its like summer warm out!!
