I like the tables Zool! I have a 4x8 "build" table I built, I used trailer jacks to make the height adjustable and the perimeter frame out of 3" angle, with the legs turn out. Best thing I ever built, use it constantly. I hadn't thought of the idea of multiple smaller tables. How did you come up with that size? I'm sure there is something magic about those proportions!

Yea, a big table is a must...good idea with the jacks!

No majic, 5's fit better than the 8's, and are easier to move around...im gonna fill in the bottoms with shelves/doors,drawers..so they wil be heavy enough..

A 5 fits perfect under the shelves.

and the rest along the outer wall

These are the braces that hold the water tank, they attach to the coffin box. I was gonna reuse them, but they look dark, soo ill remake them from a small piece of ply thats left..the 2x4 pieces are deck bracing that go in the engine compartment...gotta make them too.

Love the idea of having multiple tables that fit together to have a single large work surface when needed...

I missed having the plywood stack on horses to work on, but dont miss working around it all the time either....I saw on the net somewhere the guy had all modular tables and counters on wheels, allowing multiple configurations...L shaped, U shaped, or a big rectangle.

I like the tables. I like making my tops out of 3/4" MDF and then Laminating 1/4" Hardboard to the top and bottom surfaces which gives me a full 1 1/4" thick top. I then edge band it with oak. Makes for a nice flat durable top that stays flat and smooth. I use contact cement to glue it up.

MDF is what the plans I used called for. But im thinking is I have a bunch of leftover 3/4 T&G eastern white pine plank flooring, about 6" wide. I was gonna cover the tops and rip the tongue or groove off the end pieces. I have a qt of Helmsman urethane i can coat it with, then just sand and recoat as i beat it up.

What I want to do is face frame one side of each, and in 2 put a bunch of shallow drawers, like 2" deep, 2 columns, for fastener storage.....but ive really never built a drawer before...im wondering if instead of dovetails and such, if i could get away with epoxy and staples? :D

Bust out that table saw and I'll show you how to make "Shop Drawers" That are strong and easy to make? Here's the Joint detail...

drawerJoint.jpg

1/4" dado in drawer sides 1/4" rabbet in front and back pieces. Glue and Pin Nails in from sides and they'll never come apart. I use 1/4" Tempered Hardboard for the drawer bottoms and planed down 1/2" pine for the sides. If the drawer is over 24" wide I raise the bottom up to 1/2" off the bottom and place a 1/2" x 3" wide brace in the middle of the drawer bottom for added support. I have about 40 of these drawers in my shop at the moment on cheap Blum 22" drawer glides. Some are 36" wide and 10" deep that I store my routers and saws in. Prolly have over 100lbs in em and they work great.

Thats a simple enough design wood, thanks. I love the price of the Blums! that makes it doable :D...

Haha, I know you're just kidding, but they say, much truth is said in jest!...but im stuck between 6 hr epoxy cures, no thickener, and never ending wood to coat...aside from glassing, the next step is removing the throttles, instrument panel components, and the helm pod. The last time I removed something, i walked around in circles looking for a logical place to put it....if I dont organize, i'll go down like the Titanic! lol..
