Thanks for the posts guys! I think ive got a game plan. I spent the weekend with this new fur baby.. Just what we needed in life was another dog, we have so much free time as is... But shes adorable and the Admiral is happy so I'll call it a good idea at this point!! Even Maya (our current pup) is happy to have a new sister!

Regarding the boat, I did get the front section of flooring glassed out and trimmed up. So now all the pieces are done and should go into the boat this week!

Hey Hey,

So I got the floor pieces trimmed and dry fit into the boat. ANNDDDD we are looking a bit off level.

I have the floor pieces resting on top of the old fiberglass fillet on the hull. This brings it up a little from where it was before, but I'm fairly confident my stringers are also higher (PB underneath, before was dry, and more glass on top), but not quite high enough to have it make up the difference.

I dont mind having a little angle towards the center. And may actually prefer it, so that water drains to the center cavity and can be pumped out or drained out, rather than it pooling on the sides of the floor. But when I pulled it to level. it was close to an inch over my 3' span.

Would it make sense to trim the old floor off the hull to get more level? How will the floor stay up on the hull? Im assuming it would slide down since there are no bulkheads in the front...

I know that a boat doesnt EVER float perfectly level, but it was noticeable to me that there was an angle.

p.s. sorry I didnt take any pictures!

If it's the center of the deck and you can channel it ok. Typically you do not want that. I would work that low to a high so it goes to the sides as they are designed to go. JMHO. Some more glass or pb or filler. Depends on depth, filler not good to build up high.
Water in the middle creates a slippery slope. JMHO. You'll figga it out. :)

Well since this is an inboard there is no middle section of flooring. The motor is there with the bilge directly under it, and the drain plug just in front of that.

I would prefer to have the water draining there rather than to the outsides, where it would sit and not go anywhere. Just my thoughts, I dont think that I would want to have stagnant water in the corners.

After looking at it a bit more (and forgetting to take pictures) I think Ill trim the old fiberglass lip off in a few places and leave it in the middle. So then the floor is resting on the bulkhead flush, and I think the floor will end up flat enough for what I care about.

To be honest... where the cooler is in the boat will determine the low point at the beginning of the day, and the high point at the end once its transferred to the belly

Well I did get some images pulled that are ok for what I am trying to describe. I plan on trimming the edges tonight so that I am lying flat!

The pictures below are with the floor pieces in. they are currently resting on top of the lip of fiberglass that used to be the top of the floor. I have circled the high points where the angle towards the center is noticeable.

The next few images are just of the edges, the Floor will sit on top of this lip, and on top of the stringers. where I marked are the high points that I will be removing the lip to allow the floor to sit more flush.

Might be nice to have those angles so water dont puddle when sitting level?

You've done everything else right, why stop now? I would put the floor in level as original, never sure how the pitch might affect things later, plus is there still wood in there? I f there is it will for eventually and weaken your outer support for your new floor. Besides just how much water do you plan on getting inside anyway?

That was my thought as well. I wouldnt have even said anything if it was just a small angle.. but when I put the wood in it was a noticeable slope which I didnt find acceptable.

I certainly agree with you. This boat wont be perfect, but I am trying to do what I can to make it as good as possible. If it was a little slope, as stated above, I would have been happy with it. But looking at it when the floor was in... I just cant leave it like that.

There isnt any wood left under the lip, its ground down to just a little tab of glass and resin that I thought would be nice to sit the floor on and get full adhesion to the hull, top and bottom of the deck boards. But at the end of the day, it wasnt built with anything underneath the floor so im sure itll last plenty long without it.

And how much water do I plan on getting in.... in honesty, not a lot, but in reality, plan for a hurricane lol.

Well my apologies for the delay. Life has been busy with the new puppy, work travels, and personal vacation. But I got out tonight and got the floor leveled out.

this first image is of the side of the hull. Showing where the old lip is.

this next image shows the rear bulkhead. Which I trimmed the old glass back, and the floor now rests on it.

the next images are where the starboard floor piece meet the front piece. The angle of this off the stringer is nearly flat, a slight angle toward the center to direct the water. It will be not noticeable once everything is back in.

I'm home for one more day, and then am taking a 6 day backpacking trip to Banff in Alberta Canada with the Admiral.

My goal is to get the front, port, and starboard pieces glassed in and out everything heavy that I can find on them to keep them down. And then let them cure while I'm gone. Then I'll be ready to start glassing the deck when we get back.

And we should be done traveling for a bit. Soooooo maybe more progress. But I've said that before, so who knows what the next month actually has in store.

Any progress is good progress. Enjoy your time away!

Thanks Rem! Progress is good, but I just feel like Im going too slow. Easier said than done to get it all done in 1 summer. but thats still the goal. I can do the polishing this winter but want her assembled before the snow.

Excited for this trip though. Few spots we are going to visit.
Taylor Lake, Moraine Lake, Laughing Falls, Emerald Glacier, YoHo Lake, Emerald Lake, Hamilton Lake, Maligne Lake, Little Shovel (on skyline trail), Hidden Lake, Ptarmigan Lake, Fairview Mountain.
Its an aggressive itinerary, but I think we are up for the challenge! Should be hiking ~10miles per day. Closest campsite to the road is 2.7 miles haha Ill post some pics when we get back.

Well sadly I was too busy packing to get the floor glassed in. And sadly... was packing for 4/6 days but we still got some awesome views in!
I'm in Calgary now, and will hopefully have time to get some work done Thursday. For now.. I'll just keep dreaming about getting out on the lake.
