At least that'd be easier to say than the Monty Python inspired name suggested by another of my offspring: "Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptangya Zoooooooom Neeeow Wum Ping!" :)

It's also time for me to begin thinking about names for this fine vessel.

Amongst those on the long list so far:
  • "To Hull & Back"
  • "Depths of Hull"
  • "Boat Out Of Hull"
  • "For The Hull Of It"
  • "Hull Of A Job"
  • "Refurb Madness"

I'm kinda partial to the last one so far. I know that "Blue Grandma" won't be on the list. Surprised it was ever on anybody's list, let alone the one chosen!

Rule #1: It must be punny
Rule #2: It must be unusual
Rule #3: There is NO Rule #3
Rule #4: Monty Python references are appreciated

I'm in no specific rush to plunk down hard earned money on precision laser-cut vinyl lettering in a festive font, but I'd like to name it someday nonetheless. Any votes on the above or other candidate names that reflect the near death experience this thing has had? (perhaps several times in her life)

How about . . . Eff-Balm :noidea: might be too 'R' rated though . . .

After work, pre-dinner work tonight: More stain on wall panels, and more cockpit paint:

Soooo ... gwpjr was remounting the windshield last night, applying new foam strip to the bottom of the frame and using 4200 around each screw. Port side, check. Front port portion, including hinged walk-thru panel, check. Starboard front panel, all was going well until tightening the screw for the support bar near the walk-thru opening. Apparently, the PO had replaced the original screw, and there was a good reason it was loose and floppy. Yep. Screw made contact inside the frame with the edge of the glass, and boom. Herartbreaking. gwpjr is seriously bummed. We're looking around to see if anyone local can make a 3/16" thick (yep, it's beefy) tempered glass replacement with the proper tint. For contrast, to order an entire replacement including frame is a little over $4K.

If prices for the one panel (about 2 1/2' by 2 1/2 feet) are too outrageous, I may go bottom-feeder on it and use acrylic, though that means no more windshield wiper, not that I intended to use it much if at all anyway. Unless of course, if they make an acrylic that has a surface that can withstand a wiper, but I kind of doubt it.

Things that make you go "Arrrgggghhh!"

For about $100, a local glass wizard will cut a piece of laminated glass (even better than tempered for a windshield!) out of 3/16" material of exactly the same tint. And, they'll put it back in the frame. Double score!

It could have been somuch worse. Used glass off eBay for more money for a product that may already be a hair trigger away from shattering, or having local glass dude cut plate and send it out to be tempered, and still having a grenade in front of my face while at the helm. This is like an unplanned upgrade.

It'll be ready next Wednesday.

Meanwhile, we have bow rails to mount, and more teak to oil. :) And getting the trailer back on the wheels and off the blocks. Carefully.

Head wall panels have been sanded and given a second coat of urethane and are ready to go into the boat:

LOL. Several times we asked rhetorically who was going to see the detail on the engine and wiring harness, and each time we answered anyway, in unison, "We will." :) A clear acrylic cover and a couple of view ports on the side, and some blue neon, and it'd look like one of those high-end gaming PC's.

Finished attaching the head walls and hanging the door and lockset:

Still need to fabricate a filler for the space over the door.

gwpjr finished dressing and looming the engine harness, and routing and clamping harness, throttle, shift and steering cables. Then he cut openings in the black StarBoard we bought for the dash panel. All gauges, keyswitch and hour meter mounted. He started re-wiring the back of the panel. Much neater than the birds nest that used to be there. Still a little more wiring to go before we can turn the key. Still need to design and build the secondary and accessory electrical system, but we have a lot of real estate on the dash panel.

Looking good, GW. How are you doing the edges of the starboard. I am planning on using black starboard for my console also. Its cut to size I just haven't decided how I was going to give it a finished look on the edges. Router, sanding?

We hit it with the router and a 1/8" rounding cutter. Boy did it turn out nice! Smooth. The gauge and control openings were all cut using hole saws, drills, and fine tuning with a Dremel. Beware the lava that is molten StarBoard that gets flung off the cutting tools :) gwpjr was wearing a bunch of it at times.
