And after hours working today, the whole thing has at least one coat of Hatteras White

Also, templates were made, plywood was cut, and the second bulkhead behind the water tank was installed, filleted and tabbed. I'll build a tabletop that drops in place over the tank when done.

Sunday was spent under the boat with goggles, respirator and RO sander, removing what was left of the former ablative paint. Miserable, miserable work. Goggles and mask filling with sweat. Covered head to foot in nasty poisonous dust. Gave it a good wash down when done. Then I gave me a good wash down.

Today was back under the boat, but with two-part epoxy primer. Looks better than I'll bet it has in years :)

Miserable is a good word for bottom paint removing, now that you have a new barrier on her, are u recoating it?

Making good progress, GW!

Poly going on over the primer. No ablative coating for now, until I decide if it'll be in a slip all season. For now, it'll be trailered and dunked when used.

If they dredge Braddock Bay as planned, I might slip there. That marina has been largely unused since hurricane Agnes destroyed the jetties and filled the channel with sand. It's a great protected bay however with nice access to Lake Ontario.

(The funds were approved recently and work is about to begin)

It's also time for me to begin thinking about names for this fine vessel.

Amongst those on the long list so far:
  • "To Hull & Back"
  • "Depths of Hull"
  • "Boat Out Of Hull"
  • "For The Hull Of It"
  • "Hull Of A Job"
  • "Refurb Madness"
I'm kinda partial to the last one so far. I know that "Blue Grandma" won't be on the list. Surprised it was ever on anybody's list, let alone the one chosen!

Rule #1: It must be punny
Rule #2: It must be unusual
Rule #3: There is NO Rule #3
Rule #4: Monty Python references are appreciated

I'm in no specific rush to plunk down hard earned money on precision laser-cut vinyl lettering in a festive font, but I'd like to name it someday nonetheless. Any votes on the above or other candidate names that reflect the near death experience this thing has had? (perhaps several times in her life)

I also saw one named "Titan Uranus". I don't believe mine will be fast enough to warrant that name.

How about "From The Depths of Hull". Blue grandma is now resting peacefully. It my job to lay them to sleep. Oh Reilly, I'll be the last to shovel dirt over your head

Yesterday was a multitasking day. gwpjr removed the cabin doors and frame and began to recondition the teak. He also primed the whole cockpit minus the deck which will be last.

I also applied a couple of coats of cherry stain to the galley side of the wall panel. The head side was also sanded, but as it started life as the C grade side, it had some imperfections that I filled with wood putty and resanded with 220 grit. That side will receive primer then several coats of polyurethane paint. The stained side will get satin urethane clear.

And for some reason, there's no edit button on any of my posts anymore.

Um, except this one. Odd.

Today I sanded and cut the other head wall while gwpjr painted the cockpit with topside paint. I put the new tires and rims on the trailer. gwpjr also oiled a lot of the teak parts we'd removed earlier. Man do they look nice.

Then it was time to take his Starcraft out for the afternoon on Canandaigua Lake.

Just remember you may have to call the Coast Guard someday and reference the name of your vessel. "This is the Dixie Normus ..." '

At least that'd be easier to say than the Monty Python inspired name suggested by another of my offspring: "Ekke Ekke Ekke Ekke Ptangya Zoooooooom Neeeow Wum Ping!" :)
