Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

K, here's a little progress anyway.

First, my local marine dealer had the tell tail indicator in stock, reasonable at 4 bux. So I popped that in place on the Evinrude...

I connected up the vent line to the fitting...

This had to be a new hole since the vent moved. On the other side, the original vent hole, I just installed another vent fitting in that spot (plugged up).

So then, my nasty, bent up transom cap...
P1080929.jpg

After a lot of elbow grease I got it in reasonable condition. The thing was so kittywampus (from running an engine using wet leaves for a transom) I had to very carefully bend/shape it to the transom...

I used these small ss screws for fasteners...

It's not "new" but I really had no interest in fabbing up a new one. I think it turned out pretty nice...

(You can't tell from the photos but it's kind of that shiny satin look, it's nice)

That's one important step closer to bolting on the outboard!

Morning Jas, those transom caps can be a pain in butt. We had to build a new one fo Naked Lady and the one on the 18 took a lot of man handling to make it usable again. That one came out real nice on S/N. It will be good to see her with the power bolted on.

Yah, I'm itching to get that mounted! Next important step is to get the helm all built up:cool:

NOPE! No deadlines! Man, I hated working under the pressure to get it done before our trip. So, I'll just plug along, she'll get there. All I really care about is swapping out for Islander this winter;):)

Nice job on the transom cap Jas.

Loved the red sky pic you posted from vacation, hearing the loons while seeing that stuff really makes for memories. I was hearing them all last week and miss it now.

Hate the way tools walk away with your tools.

Jason looking good. I'm all about no deadlines, only increases blood pressure.

Question on the paint; did you use high gloss or satin finish?

One more word on the Starcraft aluminum boats. I have found them to be higher and deeper than almost all other makes. They are very well built too.

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Hey guys thanks!:)

SMG - Nope, nothing on the cap itself. I did seal up the screws with 4200 though. I think that EZ went 5200 only on his cap (kinda "glued" it in place).

Don - That's gloss finish. Warning though, I'm not the best paint guy to model. I have runs and drips and whatnot. Looks good from a distance but up close not so much:redface:

---------------------------------------------------

K, finally got all the holes cut out...

After lot's o sanding the Starboard side is ready for install (port yet to get cleaned up)...
P1080950.jpg

Route was 120 on the belt sander and then working by hand through the grits to 400 then the sanding sponge.

They are going to look real sharp Jason, something about that burnished looks that is appealing. I also used small stainless screws to fasten the transom caps on, I felt is a more secure and permanent fastner.

Careful that sounds like a deadline. :p

I have faith you'll be done before then.

Consoles look sweet. :D

Your dash panels look factory made. You did an awesome job. The same said for the transom cap.

That's a real p***er about the tools. I hate guys that do that. Need to drill a 1/2" hole in there heads.

Condolences on the drill... On the positive note, the dash panels look sweet. I know the high school bleachers probably hold lots of memories for you (e.g. chess club photo, glee club try outs, etc...) and would have been a neat add to the boat, but I like the metal ones better.... Prolly hold up better too.

Have I said that I really like this boat??
