You guys crack me up, that's too funny.:p If I put one of those power plants in this boat I wouldn't need the sunscreen, it would go so fast the suns rays wouldn't have time to sit on my skin to burn me.
Well the weather "rain rain rain" isn't cooperating with the paint job on the house, so I have to work on the boat, "OH that is too bad;)"
Got the splash well installed and the gluvit in. going to cover my bunks with carpet. Will add pics later.

Yah buddy, I kinda stopped keeping score. It was like a millionbillion to 4, total blowout. Mercy rule.

:D

No painting the house? Yah, finding other stuff to do I think would be pretty easy ;)

Hey Glen, not sure if you mentioned it earlier...but how did you remove those plastic Starcraft badges off the sides?

I'm not seeing any sort of fasteners holding them on so they must've just been glued on at the factory.

Maybe sliding some braided fishing line under it to saw off the glue? Thanks:)

Hey HA , They were put on with double sided tape. I just used a new utility knife blade to cut the tape and off they came, then I used some acetone to remove the remaining tape and glue.

Thanks Glen, I'm glad somebody is able to figure stuff out around here:D

It looks like yours have a bit of shine to them, whereas mine are all faded and the factory chrome paint is totally gone.

Are you planning on touching those up at all?

I do have some sticker logos that I could use but I'd like to keep the original.

Thanks for the quick response, hope that rain keeps up so you can keep working on the boat.:)

Morning HA, mine are in real good shape, but looking at them I think they would be real easy to make look new again. They are a black extruded plastic that has had the surface painted silver. You could sand the surface lighly with a block sander. The using one of those little four inch short nap rollers lightly roll on a new layer of silver paint.

Re: 1979 Starcraft 18 SS Here we go again!!

Yesterdays progress,
Gluvit - Done
Splashwell - Done
Bunks - Done
I even had time to finish sanding all the top of the hull, and pulled the vinyl off the back rests from the bow seating. Boy were they a mess, I didn't have to pull a single staple everyone of them was rusted. Just unfold the vinyl and pull it off. The boards are in real rough shape, so I got at making new ones. Because they are curved you can't put new vinyl on a straight piece of ply then bend them to shape because the vinyl will just pucker and wrinkle. So I had to lay up new ones with 1/4" ply, bend and laminate two layers together with Gorrila glue so they will hold the curve, (I hope it works).
I'm still waiting for parts, Vinyl, prop, etc up till today the Postal workers have just been doing rotating strikes at the large sorting centers, but now they are talking a nation wide postal strike, they vote today.

Glen, could you just go ahead and make up a double set of those bow combing pads and send them my way when you're finished with them? That'd be great. Thanks. :p

Hey Ez, I could whip a set up for ya but the postage would be as much as the ply needed to make, but I could if you want??

Thanks Jason.

I know this ia not the place for this but, I kind of think of you Starcraft guys as friends. As you know I am working on painting the outside of the house, this stated three years ago June 1st. We bought this house for a song, hadn't been lived in for 9 years. Complete gut and interior redo as well as exterior paint. The siding on the house is 10" ceader and despite all the neglect the wood is in awsome shape. I stripped two sides the summer before last with a heat gun and then sand, prime and paint, last year was so wet I could do nothing so I started again two weeks ago.

Well the point of this diatribe is to praise a friend, this past weekend my best friend drove 4 hours from Alberta to come out and help me strip the other two sides, we stood on scaffolds for 10 hours Saturday and Sunday heating and scrapping our hearts out. All I can say is freinds are worth there weight in gold.
By the way he is a Starcraft 16 SS owner and a hell of a guy.
Here's to friends.:D:D:D

Of course it's the place for this. If it wasn't, jas' thread would be like 3 pages long :p:p I agree, and someday we'll manage to make a get-together to happen!

I'm thinking two things after I read that Glen...

You have one heck of a friend there, super awesome, high quality guy for sure:)

I think you are a super awesome, high quality guy too. He wouldn't have sacrificed a full day in the car driving to/from your place and two full days stripping paint otherwise buddy.

Cool stuff right there.

Thanks Jason, he is a real great guy.

My vinyl made it here yesterday, before the postal strike, dodged one there!! Weather is supposed to cooperate for the next few days so it is all out to get the house done.

For those interested here is the process I use for my floor. I did the entire floor including seat doublers out of 3 sheets of 5/8 ply.
The first pictures show the peices being cut out.

Next I cut pieces fo 5/8 ply to go between the outside of the stringers to 4 inches in from the out side of the floor, on the 18 SS this is roughly 14". I start on the rear piece of floor and and place the doubler on the underside from about the forward edge of the splashwell and go past the front edge of the floor 5". The next peice of floor gets the same treatment except you start the doubler 5X1/8" in from the back end, using a four foot piece, this gives you a 5" overlap at the front for the next piece. These two pieces of floor are the only ones that need a full length doubles, as this will fover your seat postions. If you were going to put one seadt at the rear you could also put a doubler in the center between the stringers.

Between the stringers at each joint I built a T beam out of ply and a 2X4, these are glued and screwed just like all the doublers with deck srews and Gorrila glue.
This makes for a very strong floor, with no deflection even from a 220 gorrila like me jumping on it. All the pieces will now come out and get sanded, and three coats of Urethane Spar Varnish.

That's gotta be one of the best jobs cutting the edges of the deck I've seen.

Those reinforcements will keep it rock solid I'm sure.

I thought about trying to angle the cut like that but did not think I could get it perfect.

Nice work Glen:D

Thanks HA, a belt sander and power planer make it pretty easy.
Just waiting for the first coat of varnish to dry, hard to believe I had to turn the heat on in the shop on June 18 to make things dry.
