On an 18' rig I agree, you probably have enough room as is.

Mine would be nicer with a full platform for someone who only drifts or anchors to fish.

Since I like to troll as well, I prefer a more open layout that works for both.

Do you spend more time trolling or casting? That's kinda the determining factor for me.:)

How's the weather up there? Warming up by now I hope:D

Hey HA, we spend most of our time jigging for walleye, with a little bit of bottom bouncing.
And yea it has warmed up a lot, I am kind of a winter loving guy for the temps, I don't do well in the heat. But if it wasn't for summer there would not be any point in rebuilding these great boats.

Thanks BH and Jason, there is considerably more room up front in the 18 than the 16. HA what is the distance from the consuls to the front deck on your 16 as a comparison?

Hmmm, now you're giving me ideas. I just finished my insert piece with a pedestal. I haven't tried it out fishing yet. As you may remember, I plan on redoing my whole bow deck at some point in the future because my 1/2" wasn't supported well enough and has cracked in a few places. It's jerry-rigged and solid enough for now but I'd like to redo it. I suppose there's really no need for as long of a "walkway" as was there from the factory. Your plan is certainly viable.

I can get a measurement for ya tonight Dozer:)

You want the distance from the front of the consoles to the bow cap?

That's correct HA, Thanks.

Ez, After setting the seat up there and sitting and moving around I think it will work great, I increased the width of the side seating area by 2" per side so there is lots of room to stand on the sides. Plus if you are fighting a big fish in rough water it gives you the option of stepping down on the main deck for more stability and the ability to lean on the counsuls.
I can get you some measurements if you want.

It's right around 4' to the interior edge of the bow cap.

I'm guessing the 18' rigs have about a foot more in length there, which means a lot on a boat.:)

Thanks HA, rather interesting the 18 measures 53" so only 5 inches longer in the bow. I would of guessed a foot like you said. Anyway it seems to make all the difference.

Hey, thanks for stopping by Greg, and the complement. Not to much going on the boat boat for a while now, real busy at work and holidays coming up. Glad the motor is working out.

Wow a day off, thought it was never going to come 19 working in a row. A little relaxing working on the project and I got the two dashes cut out and vinyl on them. Used a product called Neverdull to polish up the aluminum and it works great.

Hey everyone, been kind of holding out on you. Getting lots done on the boat in the early am's. All I have left to do to splash her is put on the Starcraft decals and pinstripping when it arrives, new steering, when it arrives. Do the wiring and install the new wheels and tires. I am hoping to splash the same time as Jason does his Jet if the water stays soft.

Continued on next post.

Great job! Reminds me of looking at some top notch Camaro restore in Hot Rod magazine or something. Great work and pics. Makes me want to get started on my restore... I've just been fishing too much!

Re: 1979 Starcraft 18 SS ALMOST SPLASH TIME

Thanks Concept, GA and Jason, I'm not out of the woods yet, it takes a long time to get parts delivered up here. I ordered parts for my snowblower in June and got them two days ago, I was starting to worry the snow was going to be here before the parts.
Plus the wiring will take a while to get soted out.

Thanks again Glen
