Thanks Guys, EZ seems to be getting pretty picky about youe suggestions, Jason.:D

Got a question for you experinsed guys. This boat had 1/2" piece of ply on the outside of the transom, ( sort of a doubler ). I was going to rplace it with a piec of 1/4 " aluminum but whay to much money $80.00. Do you think is is neccesary?. My 16 SS and my Buddies 16 doesn't have it.
What do you think?

My boat had the 1/2 piece as well but I needed it to make the transom in the 2-2 1/8 inch thickness for the i/o to bolt back up properly. I added the 1/2 spacer to more area around the transom for additional backing for any other parts that were being bolted onto the transom.

This boat had 1/2" piece of ply on the outside of the transom. Do you think is is necessary? What do you think?

I omitted it from both my projects. It's just something else to leak in my opinion.

Those pieces came on the boats from the factory to reduce noise and vibration from the motor.

I might get a piece of cutting board to use like Bob_VT always recommends.:)

Thanks Guys, I really wondered cus you see it on some and not on others. I will leave it out on this one. Wood hanging out the stern is just waiting to rot.

HA, There is no where aroung my neck of the woods to get a piece of cutting board that big, or I would give that a try.
Thanks again Glen

Got a little more done today, rained all day so I couldn't work on the house. Scrubbed the inside of the hull real good and pressure washed the heck out of it, ready for gluvit now.
Installed the lights on the trailer, still have to wire them.
Did the repair on the knee brace and installed the transom. I used ten rivets on each of the 1/4"x2" aluminum angle as well as gorrila glue, ( should almost be as bullet proof as Jason does) then installed all the bolts with 5200.
Now to get the rest of the sanding done and install the splash well and I can finnish the paint.
The wife went to town for the mail and came back with four real nice seats from Bass Pro that were in the mail, beat the postal strike "whew";)

Hi Guys:

In the past when I needed a piece of "Starboard" brand material instead of plywood, I bought a cutting board from my local dollar store. Worked like a charm and I could afford to make mistakes at a dollar a try! I always choke on the price of "Starboard".

Thanks Jason, won't be a lot of progress for a while the weather turned nice so it is the house that has to get the attention.

I second using the cutting board. I could find any until after I was done (I used plexiglass). If you have trouble finding it, try Grainger.

Thanks Guys, just plugging away. Concept, I made the decision to just run without a backer on the transom, I know of 3 Starcrafts that never had one.

Your transom and knee-brace reinforcement work are top notch. Looks great.

Everyone recommending these cutting boards for stuff on this site...I wonder how they hold up to UV? Plastic products not designed for outdoor use (and a lot that are:() don't hold up well in the sun. They get chalky and brittle.

EZ that's a good question, I figured it was a good idea since Bob_VT used it on his Nassau I think.

This web site can ship any size cutting board, in case anyone wants one. It says that they are resistant to cracking and chipping.

With a CMC bracket, I'm not sure if it would be better to leave it out or if it would help with vibration.

I would NOT be adding additional points of possible compression/failure between your transom and that CMC bracket.

Thanks EZ, good point your making on the effects of U/V on the plastic.

I am thinking some of this...

...or just one of these...

...and you wouldn't need to worry about UV damage on that plastic cutting board turned OB transom plate.

Just thinking out loud here is all:D
