GPS came in the mail today. Pretty exciting!
Raymarine Dragonfly 5 Pro. It'll be my first one of these so I'm stoked!

Also, glad that my neighbors are supportive of the project. I have an HOA and have to move the boat around to stay within the guidelines. It's BS, but it keeps the neighborhood looking nice.

Ciao!

This thing is going to be so bad***** when it's done. I can't wait to see it.

If your having issues drilling out blind rivets then it's because the mandrel is hard steel with an AL body and they really are a PITA! If you can cut off the blinds bucktail without damaging the hull then that may be easiest and then punch the body back out. Otherwise carefully grind the head down without hitting the hull, grab the bucktail on the inside with vice grips and pull it out on the inside.

I had luck with the rivets tonight! The ones with the hard steel mandrels where tough, but I got in a groove and got about 30, plus some other solid rivets. I used my Dremel to grind off a little bit of the head off, popped the middle out then had to go inside and knock them out, sometimes having to cut the back off.

It took some extra time, but I'm pleased with the progress. Thanks for the tip Watermann!

I need to get the rivets done this weekend if I have any chance of meeting my timeline for a Boy Scout fishing trip first weekend of June. Yikes...
My timeline is super tight!

Question, when putting new rivets in, should I put anything on them? I've read on here about guys putting 5200 on them and maybe something else. (I do plan on putting Gluvit on the inside on all the rivets and seams.)

Thanks for the help!

5200 on the shaft before you push it through the hole.

I did a coat of gluvit over top, and one on the inside as well.

Thanks @Monmouth00

I'll be painting the outside later this year and might do that as well. Can't flip this one over, not with the motor on it:eek:
For now I'll do the inside (seams/rivets). Never done this before, so doing it with research and care I'm hoping for no leaks. But, I'll test my rivet job before for leaks. Pray for me:pray2:

Yes for sure use some 5200 on the rivets your replacing, some gluvit on them will just be a mess and will add nothing to sealing a properly set solid rivet with 5200. I only used gluvit at the seams, especially the keel area. What extra I had I added to the keel area to form a pond  My though there in that keel was to make it so water would not have a divot to stay in and would move aft.

Ok, might be a stupid question, but here goes...

After I do My rivets should I leak test before or after putting Gluvit on the seams and rivets?

I might know the answer, but want to draw on y'alls experience.

Thanks!

No work on the boat hull Thursday or Friday this week, as I have work and personal commitments.
BUT, I've been working on the wood, consoles and my son has been working on the teakwood restore. It's coming along great!

During these 2 days I took it to my mechanic to get a new water pump put on because I just don't have the time to do it.

My front/bow seat cushions, side rails, backrests and other vinyl material will be ready for pickup on Tuesday.

I also decided to put another 1/2" piece of sealed plywood reinforcement under where the seats mount to make the seats really stable when mounted and incase, in the future, I want to put pedestal seats. (I've been tossing that around)

All my materials have arrived so for now it's just knocking out the buildup project by little project.

So I guess progress is still happening!

I always do a leak check after doing everything I can to seal up the hull. Just know that there is way more water pressure on any potential leak when in the water fully rigged than you'll get doing a leak test but it's all we have to get any substantial leaks.

So far on my rebuilds I'm 1 for 3 on ZERO leaks. Both my SC boats leak but not enough to even come close to kicking on a bilge pump and only a dribble comes out the bilge plug after an entire day on the water so I call that a win.

Ok, had a bit of progress today.

My youngest son got the rest of the adhesive off the inside of the hull. It's looking good and we're gonna pressure wash the residue off in the morning using Klean wash.

The front half of the boat rivets are out and prepped for new ones. I just have 4 left to get out tomorrow morning. Going to have to jack the boat up on the trailer, good times:D Then I'll be able to reach those last few. Once i'm done with those, we'll start replacing rivets tomorrow afternoon when my oldest sone get home from work. I'm looking forward to that!

I got a picture of my new cushions from my Upholstry guy. I'm excited about getting them back! I'll pick them up on Tuesday.

Also, had my helpers with me tonight helping knock out some tasks. Even got my wife in on the action.
She was happy to help until I mentioned we'll be putting 3 coats on the wood:eek:

It's fun doing this with the family. We're moving fast, but it's going well. Sometimes not as fast as I'd like, but going well.
Once I have rivets in, I'll be pretty happy. There are not that many on the back 1/2 of the boat, plus I have my system down for removal.

Tomorrow is gonna be a good long day of work. Hoping to leak test on Monday if all goes well.

Ciao!

im hoping you are going to use solid BUCKED rivets when you replace what you are removing...since i looks like you have the floor out. I always just ground the heads of the rivets off....and then punched through with a proper sized punch..... THEN if i didnt like the looks of the hole Id drill and ream to a larger rivet./.....

Yes Admiral! (Sorry, that's my over 22 year AF career coming out in me:)

The one in the middle is mine. I just saw the crack above that I need to fix. That must have been from the factory like that. I'll check that one tonight.

Rivets are going in good now that I got my process down. I was planning on getting them all done yesterday, but had some rain move in so I got held up for a few hours.

I'll have to do it today and tomorrow, then I should be able to leak test it.

Thanks for the encouragement and keeping me on track. I'm a new-by so I'll need a little coaching.

Ciao!
