I use the Helmsman spar urethane in gloss to seal the wood and yeah you can get it at HD.

I'm not sure about weight for the LF rivets, on my 18'r the LF rivets are used on the consoles, side panels and decking so I had a couple hundred on hand, they go quick.

I hope your folks get well, I know how that goes.

Who did you ask to have the thread moved over? I know jbcurt00 is pretty quick about helping out with the move.

Thanks Watermann. I sent a request to @jbcurt00. For some reason the message I sent the other day did not go through. Hopefully they can move it soon.

Ciao!

@jbcurt00 Thanks for moving the thread!

Last night I purchased various Brasier head solid rivets, Rivet set bits and blocker bar last night and they are on the way!

I will pick up the plywood &
Helmsman spar urethane later this week.

I need to order the Gluvit. Will the 2 pound can be enough?

Thanks, JO

I'm trying to get as much lined up as I can to push through the interior pretty quick. I'm probably being optimistic, but we'll see...

I contacted a Upholstery shop today that will help with recovering the cushions and rebuild the original seats in the near future. I can also buy the same vinyl for the side pieces and other areas. I can also get carpet through them. I know I could order it online, but I want to make sure I can touch, feel and see it.

I have all new Anchor wiring and connectors that I ordered a couple of months ago with a new fuse system from Blue Sea Systems. I'm gonna be glad to get most all the fuses in one area and make sure I have upgraded wiring. I plan to install a radio and GPS/Fish finder too.

Painting will come later, as I'm up against a deadline to take some Scouts out fishing the first weekend in Jun! Wholey smokes...this is gonna be a quick turn I hope.

Teardown pics coming soon!

If there is something I'm missing please let me know.

Thanks!

Have you had a chance to do a leak-check?

@classiccat

I know! Gonna happen quick.

I know it leaks a bit. I have several rivets to replace that are either missing, heads off, repaired with pop rivet, etc...
My guess is about 150, or so. Those should be here next week.

I'll also buck any loose rivets, or just replace them since I'll have the deck off.

There are no holes or any damage from inspecting the underside. We'll see when I get to see the inside.
It was missing a couple rivets so I'm sure that's where the water was coming from. I'll know more when I do the leak test. I think I'll fill it with water to check for leaks as I'm about 1 hour from a lake.

Currently not planning to do the transom. It seems solid, but will do more testing when I can really see it and might do a core sample to check. If I have to do that...well, I guess I won't meet my deadline, unless I find someone to pay to do it. I don't want to do that.

It stinks when work gets in the way of important stuff like this!

Ciao!

Nice project. That's a really nice model Starcraft that you are restoring, plus it's extra special that it was your dad's. I'm looking forward to following along.

It's hard to answer about the Gluvit without knowing what all you plan to treat, but a 2lb can should be enough to do your entire boat. Once it's mixed, it has to be used, so all the rivets you plan on doing need to be ready whenever you get it mixed. I just used it for the first time on my project. Great stuff. I ended up throwing away half the can though because I am only working on the back of my boat. The seams & rivets that I did treat were gone over about four times, way more than what is necessary... It just felt bad not to use it, so I treated the hell out of what I bought it for.

Hey y'all,
Super excited that we started the teardown today. It went pretty well. Most of the wood just crumbled and it went pretty well. Broke one thing, the cap to the original steering wheel when I pried it off. I then found of the middle would probably come out. Well first lesson on this one. Not bad for a first timer.

I have more pic's.

This is gonna be fun!

Ciao, JO

So we got the deck off. It looks good underneath and I learned a lot about the last carpet install. The work was not good. Missing a lot of screws and rivets from that install. I'm looking forward to doing it right.

I'm going to need some aluminum to replace some brackets. Where do you guys buy that type of material?

Thanks,

JO

Lifted a little of the foam and it's all dry! I'l check it all out as I pull all the foam out.

Hoping it's all dry.

Ciao,

JO

So I'm wondering about flooring. I was looking at carpet, but have also been considering vinyl flooring like Miradeck.

Has anyone used it?

The carpet is nice on the feet, but I'm looking at something that cleans easy and dries pretty quick. I know this is different than the original, yet I've been thinking a lot about that and maybe I should use something different to fit with the new materials availabls.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx! JO

Tear down is coming along nicely. The curiosity factor of this stage motivates us all. As for floor replacement in my re-do, I chose nautolex marine vinyl. It's an attractive, easy to clean and resilient product and nice to walk on bare feet. Many boat brands are using it.

Plus one for nautolex. Good traction. I'm thinking about adding some snaps to the floor and to some carpet so it could be snapped in for family cruising and snapped out for fishing and cleaning as needed, sort of best of both worlds. I believe I saw the concept in this forum.

Hey guys,

Looking for some help with this wiring box in the back of my boat.

I Plan to rewire as much as I can and I believe this is the tilt/trim controls, correct?

I have this Blue Sea System fuse box and all the wiring needed that aligns with the ABYC colors.
https://www.defender.com/product3.j...ive-bus&path=-1|328|2290021|2290030&id=336204

There are fuses everywhere and I'd like to get them all in one neat area so I can see any problems easily.

I still need to order the switch panel and will do so very soon. I was planning on using this panel.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

JO

All I used is Nautolex on my 2 SC boats. I purchased my AL needed from a local metal fab shop as the big box stores want an arm and a leg for theirs.

Thanks guys on the Nautolex recommendation. I have a few samples on the way! I'll see what my wife like:D

Also, my son found this gem in the boat. I forgot it was there.

Thanks!
