What you said is spot on - mine were barely not straight. Not a big deal and easy to work around. I did use an industrial 3m spray adhesive on the epoxy to help bond the foam to the floor. There was some minor shrinkage to the foam sheets from the sun too. Your plan sounds good overall, been doing your homework! A matching jeep would look great with it. Yours reminded me of my old ‘00 TJ.

The jeep is a 93. I like leaf springs. I had it on 37s but I stepped down to 35s I have steel in my back and it was getting hard to get in and out off. I am an avid off roader overlanding and rock crawling. I kinda wish I would have gotten one of the ones with the cuddy cabin and lifted the trailer to take it over landing and double as kind of a tent but alas I didnt do that.
I have done a ton of reading. I figured if I am going to do the work I want it done right and I dont want to have to constantly fix stuff I wanna restore her and then just enjoy her for atleast the next 7-10 years. Though at some point she is getting a 4 stroke fuel injected engine. Probably a 90hp. I want to be in the 40mph range as if now I am at 34 with the 75hp.
She wont be a show boat I am not that good at painting but she will look nice and be able to serve as a fishing\crabbing boat and as a good pleasure boat.

Well no pics yet. Finished getting the floor up last night and found some pressure treated 2x6 in one spot under it screwed to a rib with mild steel screws rusted almost to nothing lucky it looks like the foam kept them out of direct contact with the ribs. I cant believe the screws didn't punch through the bottom they were so long. So now its getting the rest of the foam out which I will be working on in the evenings this week after work. By then end of this weekend coming the transom should be out and the foam should be gone and the flithy interior floor cleaned. If things go to plan I might even get to start replacing rivits. Alot of rivits are in better shape than I though so I may not be replacing as many as I though I would be.

I'm running a Yamaha 60hp 4-stroker, and hit 34 mph flat out. 90hp is a 50% increase. Power required is likely proportional to velocity cubed when on plane? (SWAG), so that power increase only gets me up to 39 mph. Would be way better for getting a water skier up though!

Power is not proportional. I also have a 16 foot flat bottom monarch. With the old 30hp it could do 28ish with just me. With a 75 it did 36ish and with a 90 I could push it to 38. On boats you seem to hit a brick wall around 36 mph and it takes large amounts of power for gains after that.
In my Starcraft with a very soft transom that made it hard to get the bow up with the 75hp I could hit 34mph barely and a solid 32 with 3 adults and a toddler in the boat. And probably another 600-800 pounds of gear and 26 gallons of fuel. The V-Hull has always seemed superior to me for speed

Want to say Ive read here that the dead-rise and hull shape limit top speed to under 40 mph. A bigger motor is just going to get you out of the hole and on plane faster but offer minimal top speed gains. Ive been looking at new motors a bunch too and except the 70hp yamaha, everything else above 60hp will weigh 350+ lbs. Adding extra weight may not be worth it. 3 adults and a kid, 6-800lbs of gear, and a lot of fuel - you are probably over the boats weight limit which is what kills the hole shot and makes it slow to plane.

At altitude, my old 75hp would barely hit 30mph on a good day. Different props definitely helped the hole shot though, either the 3 blade hustler or 4 blade, without losing any top speed.

Last thing to consider is new motors are rated differently and are stronger for the equivalent hp rating. An old 70 is like a new 60. As much as I would love a 90 on mine, its rated for an old 85, and insurance wont cover me if I go above that anyway. Makes that 250lb 70hp 4-stroke yahama look very appealing. Been watching @renns thread with his 60hp yama and makes me want one even more!!

Mine ran fine with a 90hp the motor just had more issues than I wanted to deal with so I put a nice 93 Mercury 75 on it. I lost about 4 mph when I did that.
Id have to look at the weight rating I probably am close, I did miss type in my gear weight estimate that actually included the fuel not in addition to it.
I am looking at 4 strokes as well but I am looking at 90hp ones. I liked the way she rode and ran with a 90hp. I dont carry insurance I am not even sure they offer it here in MD but they definitely dont require it and its not worth it on this boat to carry insurance.
I spend alot of time out on the Chesapeake bay so a motor is something I will always keep relatively recent and in great shape since I dont want to get stuck out a long way from land.
As far as boat max hp ratings. Its an old antiquated mathematical formula that is used. I am only exceeding it by 5hp but marine po po always vastly exceed the power ratings so they can try to be the fastest boat out there. So 5hp doesnt concern me. It will make no difference since most of the manufacturers use the same engine in the 60 , 75, and 90 and just detune the lower HPs the weight is the same on all of them.

We have a SS 16 with a old Merc 850 (85 powerhead/75 prop) - I don't know what speed it pushes us to, but it's plenty fast, such that it's not uncommon to have to back down to get more control.
I consider 75 hp about perfect for this boat.
I have seen a few SS 16's w/ Merc 90 top's on them, they must be fun.

The difference between the 75hp and 90hp atleast on mine is negligable. The 90hp seems to have more control at idle. I do crabbing and run a trot line so that control is a big deal.
The extra 4mph is noticible during Rock Season when I might have a 90 minute run to a spot. Thats 15 - 30 extra minutes of fishing if you also have to be back at a certain time. A little extra HP is also nice in the event your towing a disabled boat that broke down in.

The reason I got the SS 16 was my buddy had one w/the OMC 70, (about 60 prop) it was barely able to get a skier out of the water w/ 2 in the boat. Our SS 16 with the Merc 85 powerhead/75 prop is "much" faster, and has no problem getting out of the water.

But, if you are on big water, isn't 16 a bit over matched? This sounds like good place for a large Islander or maybe Holiday.

I would love a 21 foot I think its Jupitor its got the cuddy cabin but there are none to be found here in MD and I dont think my jeep would handle the bigger boat very well. This one does find on the bay if you use some sense. They were built for Lake Erie which is similar to the bay.
My 75hp has some performance mods done. I may also swap the intake and carbs off the 90 onto it to make it a 90. Thats the only difference between the two is the intake and exhaust and a few degrees of WOT timing.

Work came to a stand still while my mother is in the hospital. Still got some done. My die grinder which I had a wire cup brush in died so I'll pick a other one up after I leave the hospital. I'll finish this up then start replacing rivits. I feel like I'm about to hit a milestone

Just found a crack at the bow above the water line. It doesn't go all the way through.
Any recommendations?
Current plan is drill out the rivits it comes close to cut an aluminum strip 2 or do inches wide and 2ish feet long butter it with 5200 and rivit it on. Pics will come after I get this last coat of stripper off

Sounds like a reasonable approach, but others with more experience will certainly want to see detailed pics. I had to deal with a few corrosion pinholes, but fortunately no cracks on my hull.

Yep, picture is needed. You sure a crack vs a gouge?

It looks like a crack to me though it doesn't go all the way through. Pics will be coming tomorrow. It was dark when I got done stripping paint so I'll get pics on the daylight.
Definitely want some input on this

It's a very fine crack that I still don't think is all the way through. It's not showing up very well. My finger is on what appears to be the end of it in the third picture where the freaking Bondo is I still need to get off. I left that one spot on there to make it easy to find the crack
