Sorry to hear about your day GM. We've all been there. You are buzzing right along though. Can't wait to see the finished product. Been following this one for a bit. Ever since you recommended I read your engine rebuild thread actually. Keep on keeping on. I'd find the water meter guys house and throw your loose cover on his lawn. One good turn deserves another. Just kidding. I'd call and get him fired. :eyebrows:

Thanks for following along. I can't call and have the guy fired. He meant well and probably needs that job. So I forgive him and everything is now fixed and running great again. So everything is good again in the world.

I do think I may have to rebuild the water meter cover holder though. It also got broken up some more. But not a huge issue either.

I hope to get more progress today on the boat again. I have to say, I am getting excited about the paint job now. :thumb:

Yep, I agree with you. I was just trying to get a giggle. It would almost take a physical altercation for me to want to get anyone fired. I will say what's on my mind to someone who isn't doing the right thing but not loud enough to get a manager involved. Everyone makes mistakes.

Okay I know it has been some time now. But I had other more important issue to take care of. My wife just went through cataract surgery and now she is starting to be able to see in stereo again. But that can present a real problem as well. She may not like what I look like once she can see again.

Today, actually this afternoon, was the first time I was able to do some more sanding on the hull. And I am happy to say I have more then half the hull sanded now. I like what I am seeing and good quality high build sand-able two part primer is going to work perfectly. The hardest part to sand is the patch work the PO, or who ever he hired to do that work, did. It wasn't a very good repair, but looking how the entire boat was maintained, or not maintained, all the owner probably wanted was for it not to sink or leak. And I honestly can verify it didn't leak either. But that is water under the bridge now.

You can see this side is sanded now.

And another front shot. Not hard to see where I stopped.
Sanding (12).JPG
And the side that needs sanded yet.

I have run into a little interesting issue that I don't know what is going on. I was hopping for the more experienced and knowledgeable iboaters to explain.

Some of the areas I previously sanded, more then a week ago now, looks like some type wet look taking place. I can wipe it off without any problem, but was wondering why it is happening? It is not water or anything that got on it that I can think of. :noidea:

Anther shot from the opposite side. Anybody have any ideas what it could be? And if you notice it is only in the areas that are totally to the resin without any gel coat. I have no idea.

Until next update you all have a wonderful and safe day. :thumb:

I always tell the missus the reason we lose our eyesight after 40 is to soften the wrinkles like they do on tv ... didn't get fed for a week last time I brought that up, could be something to keep to myself:)

Oh the little holes are not the concern for me. Those are a piece of cake, or filler, to fix. The wet looking stuff is the question. It looks like the resin is weeping. But it isn't a sticky substance or oily or anything like that. Just a wet look that wipes off easily. I was just wonder what was going on. :noidea:

As i get older, I have learned, sometimes the hard way, to keep certain things to myself if I like to eat and live in the house.

What did you use to wipe it off with...I mean any chemicals. IE; acetone or bleach?

No chemicals, just a shop rag. When I do get ready for the primer, then I will wipe it down with Acetone before spraying. Was just wondering what it was and why now. This boat is at least 1976 Tom Boy Tri-hull and I can't figure out why the wet looking spots now.

That's why I was asking. Might be a mold. Try a little bleach in a small area

Weird stuff there GM. Could it be water wicking out of the glass from the many years of use? I have read that fiberglass isn't water proof and that it does soak in some water over the course of its life. Maybe it being turtled, this is the first time the bottom is getting sun and is heating up the water inside the glass. That dark green sure must soak up some heat from the sun. The water is then finding it's way to the rough spots that I would imagine aren't as water tight as the sections with the green gel coat. The boat might just be drying out through the rough spots. Only thing that popped into this non glassers mind.

Some very good ideas and suggestions. Thanks! It really does look like water and it wipes off easy. And it could be trapped moisture that is now able to come to the surface. I honestly don't know. But there isn't a lot of it and I will clean the hull very well before priming. Hope to get more sanded today. :thumb:

Acetone then might bring out the water and evaporate it quickly. Just a thought.

I read somewhere on gell coat blisters that sometimes they held moisture ... The spots that I had have not come back through the new gelcoat yet .... Acetone bath before paint or filler and I don't think you will have any problems ... Hopefully ... :)

Well that is good to know. I would hate to have gone through all this work and have it go bad months later.

Sorry to say I didn't get any more sanding done yesterday. Good intentions don't always work out. But I may get back to it today. :noidea:

Okay a progress report; YEA!

Well I did get some time this afternoon to do some more sanding and it was a pretty good section too.
More Sanding (2).JPG
Getting closer to being finished with the initial sanding. I figure many two or three more hours and the initial 60 grit effort will be done.
More Sanding (3).JPG
On the very bottom I finished this panel and the center panel still needs sanded. The actual side is near finished as well, about a quarter more to go with that panel and the side will be finished.
More Sanding (4).JPG
I had to take a shot of the old live well side inlet/outlet that is plugged now. I will certainly need to fill that up and feather it straight with the side of the hull.
More Sanding (6).JPG
Here you can see the very center panel that still needs sanded yet. But since it is out of the repair patched area from the previous owner, it will sand a ton easier.
More Sanding (1).JPG
And this showed up on the bow sanded area. I was wondering if this was some type resin flaw from the initial boat building.

Yea the birds like that smooth surface now and I guess they left me a note telling me how much they like it. :noidea:

I really think about a few more hours and It will be ready for the body filler mixture you guys offered me. I have everything available and if the mixture works as good a I am thinking (hoping, praying) I will have it ready for primer in no time. There I go again, trying to make myself think it is going easy again. But I like to try and stay positive. Rarely works but I keep trying anyways.

Until next update, you all have fantastic day. Thanks for following along and offering support. It really does work folks. :thumb:
