For the dash, I'd also consider using Grandad's laminate choice, instead of 'real' wood. It wouldn't add much thickness so the gauge mounts won't be affected.
I also really like some of the recent dash mod's via engine turning as well:

1969 Sea Ray SRX Pachanga Build Thread
^^^ w/ some great tips for DIY engine turning
My last suggestion would be carbon fiber, also available as vinyl. I think it would go great w/ the aluminum, black & red.
Sorry about the super sized monkey wrench thrown in the mix /QUOTE]
wow. i just read through that entire Pachanga thread, and am not only blown away by that guy's work, but reminded of why i like tin boat resto....his stringers took LOTS longer to put back in than ours do. oh, and you don't need to fabricate ours first....
but i love the engine turning idea. cheap, too, if you buy your roloc discs other than in the starter-kit-at-otto-partz package....just go to the auto body shop supply and get a 50 pack. carbon fiber? not sure on that.
that is a great thread...tin-appreciation, engine turning as well as the cool trick on getting the hole-saw to stay aligned!
oooh man... carbon fibre! Me likes that idea!
I think it would go great w/ the red, black & diamond plate, and really pop behind those dark face gauges. It comes in a not too dark graphite color too, so not necessarily a black....
Sort of high end, which w/ the black & red plus steering wheel, I get that vibe from it so far. Same reason to add the engine turning detailing........
You mean like chrome and bling??? Perhaps some 22's for trailer wheels with some fatboy tires....
Canadian's are totally into this stuff.... :faint2:
Subtle high end touches. Not a golden billy club between the eyes :faint2:
:frusty: Okay now I'm totally undecided, Thanks for all the great ideas, I think!! The Admiral pooped on the engine turning idea, but really likes the Carbon fiber now what color??? gray, charcoal, silver, red????
