Ok Glen, so here's what I'm thinking....

Seems like you are all crowded up in there. You ought to take a can opener and head up to the bow and,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

what had you been planning on covering the new dash with? i love the curve, BTW....the asymmetric helps break up the boxy lines of the ole tin crocks

Wow that was late, I don't think I could stay up that late.

I'm using aluminum to cover over the top and blend into the bow deck, and still trying to decide on the face, leaning towards red vinyl at the moment. Jim was saying some wood veneer, I like the idea but it would be the only wood visible in the boat????

For the dash, I'd also consider using Grandad's laminate choice, instead of 'real' wood. It wouldn't add much thickness so the gauge mounts won't be affected.

I also really like some of the recent dash mod's via engine turning as well:

^^^ w/ some great tips for DIY engine turning

My last suggestion would be carbon fiber, also available as vinyl. I think it would go great w/ the aluminum, black & red.

Sorry about the super sized monkey wrench thrown in the mix :watermelon:

wow. i just read through that entire Pachanga thread, and am not only blown away by that guy's work, but reminded of why i like tin boat resto....his stringers took LOTS longer to put back in than ours do. oh, and you don't need to fabricate ours first....

but i love the engine turning idea. cheap, too, if you buy your roloc discs other than in the starter-kit-at-otto-partz package....just go to the auto body shop supply and get a 50 pack. carbon fiber? not sure on that.

I think it would go great w/ the red, black & diamond plate, and really pop behind those dark face gauges. It comes in a not too dark graphite color too, so not necessarily a black....

Sort of high end, which w/ the black & red plus steering wheel, I get that vibe from it so far. Same reason to add the engine turning detailing........

If carbon, I'd go mid-tone gray. Not quite black, darker then typical gray...
