CBK was there too, he was just running the B Ticket in circles. Odd.

Yeah CBK called me up one day...and I explained how to fix his steering issues...but he didn't have the phone up to his "good" ear and therefore wasn't able to get her turning both ways:p:D

He will be changing the name to Nascraft since he can only drive in circles.;)

Nice work on the cut Jason, I could not have done better myself.:)

Nice HA, love it!

Hey, ya know, having fun at Kev's expense seems to take up a fair amount of bandwidth here on iboats. Do you think we should talk to the mods and see if we could have a dedicated sub forum? Probably get a lot of traffic!

Still lots o heart Kev:D:D

J just for future refferance when using a plumb bob and your having trouble keeping it steady let the bob rest in a coffe can of light oil and it will hod true forever. But for what it's worth I would have gone about it the same way you did. Great job almost there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice work. The opening looks like it was done by a pro. I bet you learned a lot more in the process than you originally thought you would have to :)

I believe iboats has actually started selling targeted ad-space just for the CBK roast sessions.

Thanks a bunch sprint, yah that is for sure. Seeing as, well, I have never even touched an IO prior to what you guys have seen here on this thread. So pretty much everything so far. Man I still have a long way to go putting this driveline back together!

You know..sometimes Kev is just a mob of One...

OK, sorry dude. I am back on your team, same color jersey man, I am with ya. Totally! You are the best! (fighting sarcastic comment at the moment, I can do it, restraint Jason, focus)

OOooooo, I bet they make a ton on that scheme!

OK, no work on the Islander for today. I took the night off and watched a It's the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown with the kiddos. Don't worry I put in for the time off.:)

Later!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well for whatever reason the Great Pumpkin passed my house by. Maybe he'll make a stop tomorrow;)

Well, I got a couple of things done today...

First up, I slid the transom board back into it's spot and make the two 60 deg. holes for the shift cable...

Then I cut the rest of the keyhole out...

Then I coached our last soccer game of the season for middle offspring Ryan. Came home a tossed another giant trailer load of fire wood and brought it up to the house.

The guilt got the better of me and I have decided to over size drill, fill, and re drill. I figured as long as I am here I might as well do it right, even though I have to complete all those extra steps.

So, I got to drilling all the over size holes in the transom. Man that was was a real bummer to trash that nice piece of epoxied marine plywood. I suppose in some cases a guy has to move backward to move forward. Now that everything is cut out I can see that I'll need a 1/4" shim plate (of some sort) to bring me to the required 2" - 2 1/4" depth.

Still have a lot of work to do on this transom. Sand, clean up, fill holes with epoxy, install shim plate, more sanding and clean up, paint, drop in, drill, bolt in. Sheesh!

I did dry fit the tie down U Bolts and ski tow eye...

That rigging was pilfered from Thumper the Baja. Way more heavy duty than what was originally on the Islander. I really like it.

That was cool to see a little stainless on the hull there. Someday it will be there for good!:D

Make sure you secure those well in case I need to tie my rig up and have ya tow me in off Saginaw Bay some morning.:) Thanks in advance also.

Nice score again from thumper, always nice to upgrade when you can. I hope the guys over on the Baja forum haven't taken it the wrong way.:p

Looking good, this boat is gonna be a real gem when you are done.:D

Another wasted day. I'm sure you could have roofed the house or thrown a coat of paint on it and then did the boat :)

Nice work man...

Nice work Jason. I like the heavier duty stainless - looks like "no expense spared"... however as you've let the cat out of the bag and admitted to pilfering from a perfect good Baja, I'm sure the guys on the Baja forum have formed their own "angry mob".

Batten down the hatches and load the shotguns! :)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey, thanks for stopping by fellas! Well, not much done today on the rig. Just picked up a few basic materials at the Home Depot. Unloaded and stacked a ton of wood though, winter is coming!

Hey dudes, I will say this about that Baja...

That is (was) one well built, very solid boat. But, even the good rigs won't win against the elements when it's owner leaves it out. Take a look...

That would be the drain tube going back to the bilge - yup, rotting from the inside out. Bummer man. Pretty well the whole rear end of that boat was ready to rebuilt. Or, just great for a guy like me who really needed a power plant at a heck of a deal!:D

Rock on guys!:D

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well, just got back from a run and my internal thermometer tells me that I have squandered any hope of getting this rig painted before winter. Ah, it's not like I am short on other stuff that needs to be done, that's for sure!

Have a good Monday guys!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I think we all have plenty to do this winter Jas. We ARE still married ya know.
I know painting the bigger boats like yours present more of a challenge since you can't flip it as easily, if at all. Having said that, maybe thats a good thing. I mean that allows you to do the interior, engine, and "adjustments" as needed without having to worry about messing up the paint. On mine I will have to do several touch ups after installing the transom and such. Have a great day my friend.

Running this early in the morning?? Are ye daft man?:D

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Yah, I figure that if I play my cards right I can complete just about everything else on this rig through the winter months. I'm going to set up a spot in the basement to do stuff like paint and epoxy.

Man, I am thinking of all the stuff that yet needs to be done...

Deck, flotation, cabin walls, door, side curtains, seat boxes, console, dog house, upholstery, motor mounting, plumbing, electrical, and on, and on!

I can even do all of the paint prep work too while it's still cold. Once the temps get warm enough to paint I'd love it if that is all I really have left to do. Though, I have a feeling that I'll still need the bulk of next summer to get this rig water ready. Time will tell...

It's all good, I like working on her and am ok with the pace. At a certain point I know I'll be itching to be done and taking her out on the big lake!

And that still dosen't include:
Stocking the tackle boxes
Acquireing all PFD's
All Safety equipment
Putting new lines on reels
Fishing license's
Mounting Fish Finders
Installing radios & speakers
Stocking Boat- towels, snacks, drinks, clothes, TP, first aid kit, UV Lotion/ mosquito spray, flashlights/lanterns, hats, maps, live bait, coolers, propane stove, anchors, extra ropes, net, rain gear.(all this stays in boat)

I think I just depressed myself.
