It's a fender....just see what happens. It's not like the paint is falling off your hull or something (I hate it when that happens)

JAS,
I'm no paint expert but you should be OK. My understanding is you can't paint NEW galvanized. but after it weathers and starts to oxidize (and it will) the paint will stick. Go for it and see what happens. The worst that can come of it is we'll all get a good laugh at ya:p

BTW, I plan on throwin some paint on my galv trailer as soon as I stop collecting junk boats:D

Ideally they need to be etch primed (zinc chromate) first before primer/topcoat, you could always just keep going the way you are and see what happens, no big deal.

Dont use cold gal for this, its used when you are working with either bare or gal steel, welding/grinding etc.

Such a dope, I even have ZC right on hand here!

I almost posted up that I prolly shouldn't sweat it - it's not like some sort of hull paint issue or anything. I stopped short as I thought it might be a sore subject with some guys around here:eek::eek::D

Yah, we are going to run with it. Matter of fact, all three are drying in the shop as I sit here. These are bolt on so if they start to look shabby I can always pull them off, hit them again and throw em back on. No sweat!

And well, you guys could always mock me along the way too. I get what I deserve!:D

Later fellas!!

This should go along with post #927 back there...

Here is the finished product after fill/sand/repeat/prime/paint...

Giant OMC Stringer hole??? Where???

I'm pretty satisfied with how that came out, eh! It's not a beautiful job but utility wise it should work great.

Thanks Bro!

I love the stuff, it's awesome! I used it in this application as it remains a bit flexible which I needed for that transom there. I wanted to use JB Weld, Alumaweld or something of that nature but I was afraid that type of stuff might end up cracking on me. I could have just as easy used 5200/4200 there but that stuff is about 3x as much $$.

Really what I did there was simply to fill any void between the transom skin and transom board to make for a nice tight/solid connection for the new Merc.

Check it out...

OH :D I see. I have my own version that I told y'all about last year. Urethane that we use to install windshields. Its pliable, paintable, self etching, and will NEVER let go, crack, or peel. I love it too. I will post a pic of it on my thread in a few days. Thanks.

Nice progress I'm seeing, one piece at a time this tub is getting closer to the water. If you are using Bret's work as an inspiration this boat is in good hands.:)

Good to see you made it back from the lake! I'm sure you were bored of all that boating, fishing, hanging on the beach stuff anyway:D

Yah, it's super rare for me to get one big day of work in on the rig. So, this here project will need to be broken down into about a billion ridiculously small steps. Like if you look really, really close you can tell that something has happened. All good though, I'll get there!

Yah, Brett sure knows his boat building game, eh! He finished up two rigs this summer, man that is awesome! I can't hold a candle to that guy!

Keep on keepin' on. I did an hour or two that didn't amount to much but it all adds up.

Nice job on filling the outdrive hole. That alum filler did the trick.

Fellas...

Why do I keep thinking that I want to trade cabin space for deck space lately???

What am I talking about?

Well, basically, taking that cabin top right off of there and turning this here rig into a Sunchief/Holiday sort:eek::eek::eek:

I have had this thought just in passing here and there but now I can't seem to shake it!

I think the cabin is cool. Keep the cabin. Your future SS will serve your open-bow needs.

NOOOOOOO!! Don't do it!!

In the northern climes where we live, you're gonna want that cabin when you're out with the wife and kids and crappy weather rolls in or when someone needs to get in out of the sun.

Get the extra deck space from your second boat.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

If you count the area above the cabin and the bow as deck space then you will find that you come out ahead with your multilevel layout.:)

Seriously, once she's anchored(preferably above a school of yellow perch) the kids can cast lines off the bow and leave you plenty of room back at the helm:D

Then when it rains everyone will be glad you had the foresight to purchase a rig suited for northern climes.

(or do you just want a boat like the Liquid Limo?)
