When you go and try to find the 1.5 inch fill line for those tanks hold onto your socks. It needs to be coast guard rated for under deck apps. The cheapest place's that I found it locally were both in Bay City, Pier 7, and Bay Harbor/Skipper Buds, they both were around $8.20 a foot and you could buy just the footage that you needed. All of the other places around that sold it wanted between $10 - 16 a foot and you had to buy the whole 10 foot piece. Bay Harbor had it in stock when I needed it, Pier 7 had to order it because they don't stock it.

Thanks for the heads up GA, appreciate that!

I think what I'll probably do is punch myself a few times in the face before I put the order in. That way the pain won't be quite so noticeable.

Cheers!

Yah, burning through these tanks sounds like a lot of fun, till I pull up to the Gas Mart and they mock me from a distance! 45 gallons for the Suburban and 60 for the Islander, oh man I feel a cold sweat coming on and tears welling in the eyes!

LOL Yeah I remember the first time I stopped with my dad to fuel up his 24' Seaswirl glass rig:eek: I watched him put $80 in the Tahoe and then pulled forward and put $200+ into the boat as it holds 80 some gallons.

I felt bad at the time being a broke college student that I couldn't chip in for gas. Kinda lame offering a ten or twenty when the bill is that much.

If you are going to be hitting mid forties with that rig she's gonna be a special rig. You'll be able to whip any Islander out there(except one w/ dual OBs on a bracket of course).

In these temps you should be able to get a coat of resin on every 24hrs. I'm about to get to it myself and quit yakking:)

My '82 22' Islander has a 150hp outboard on it...I had it out the end of last year and I stopped at 35mph. I only had the throttle maybe 3/4 down.

Are you challenging me with your future rig??? I think you are aren't you!

Yah, it was the "consistency of masking tape" (from West Systems video) so I went ahead and laid down another coat this morning. I am nearly certain that I can get a third on late tonight, cool!

Yah, I'm not one for racing around or that sort, unless of course Huron over there is talking trash. I am too competitive to just let that go.

I'll be very happy to have her up on plane without over working the Merc.

That might make it a little better. I have $90 into just fuel line's  but I made sure to get the stuff that is not going to rot with the "Corn Gas".

I have been using West System epoxy with the slow hardener and I can usually get a second coat down around 4 hours after I laid the first coat. I was told that when you can touch it and pull your finger up with out having it string up, put the next coat on, that way they bond together better with out the sanding.

The boat should be a cruiser with that motor. I couldn't tell you a exact top end but somewhere between 35 - 45 mph shouldn't be out of the question. My boat has the 4.3 in it and I remember seeing the gps over 40mph before.

Well, I spent most of my day splitting/stacking firewood and landscaping. I did manage to get the second and third coat of epoxy on the tops and sides so that was cool.

Farewell old transom and stringers, thank you for 34 years of service. Just know that it wasn't your fault that somebody bolted on an OMC Stringer...

Burn baby burn. Next time use epoxy and you won't have to be sacrificed. :)

Yah, Al Gore may not appreciate me warming the earth like that, but, I always enjoy a good bonfire!

So, tonight I sanded with 220, cleaned, and laid up a fourth and final coat of epoxy on the top and sides. That is about all I got for today, cheers fellas!

Hanging tight, waiting for the epoxy to harden up so I can flip for the other side.

I spent a few minutes on the trailer last night. Took my socket set out and attempted to take off the bunks, fenders, winch mount, hitch coupler and such. Sort of like taking a knife to a gun fight! I was clearly out matched! All of that stuff was so rusted on there I couldn't move a thing! I even snapped the handle clean off my socket wrench!

The only thing I was really able to pull off was the wiring and old brake plumbing. Pathetic.

Yah, so that trailer won the battle last night. I WILL win the war though. For our next meeting I will be equipped with my Porter Cable grinder with a metal cutting wheel, and that will be that!

Cheers Fellas!:D

i didn't even try wrenches, went right to the grinder and cutoff disk. guess i had the gun in that fight! heck i had a hard time getting the lugs off the wheels without the boat on it.

Yah, I was assuming I'd need to go that route but my bride had me haul the trailer back out away from the house as it's UGLY! I needed to haul out about 200' of extension cord - I was just hoping that I wrench them off and move on. I know dumb right.

You are a good man Triton, but, if I could get her to float first that would be a step in the right direction, eh!

I'm glad my rig kicks my but every now and then to keep me humble, you my friend make my hats smaller!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I checked the epoxy last night and it seems to be fully cured and hard as a rock! I think I can coat the other faces/sides and prep for installation by the end of the weekend. Cool.

Your Islander is in great shape. I will clean mine out today and see what I have to work with.

Thanks
