Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I got a pot of strong coffee brewing

All is right in the world then:joyous:

The 22' needs to be your Saginaw Bay boat.

Well maddie, this Islander will no doubt be the everything boat until I get the the other two built. So ya, she'll still be a fishing rig till that happens. And, she should be pretty good at it too. I'm about to pull the trigger on 10 rod holders and have a plan for a planer board mast:thumb:

Must still be in the deepfreeze over in Jas land, not much happening around here, I had to go back four pages to find the thread.

Yah Glen, it's just been so cold over the past couple of weeks I have such a hard time burning through my limited supply of cord wood or the ultra expensive LP to heat that space so I can work. Yesterday morning was 12 below:cold:

Ah well, I do see things warming up, maybe, someday, possibly, hopefully. Then I should get back on track here :encouragement:

Edit: We found another 7" of snow on the ground this morning:smow::smow:

Go with the in line boards not the big boards. Much easier and more efficient. I use mine for both walleye and salmon. Did the home made tattle tale flags for eyes and just take them off for core and copper.

Te best price I have found on the Offshore inline boards,

Off Shore Combo Bag

It's even bottom feeder friendly,..............

That's a pretty super deal right there. I may need to make the trip over to Franks as the snow melts out here before spring:thumb:

All right, really getting tired of the sub zero temps. Winter, ugh, I'm about all set with the winter of 13/14:blue:

Though I do see that the Ice Age seems to be wrapping up about Tuesday. After that, regular normal cold temps:rolleyes:

Well, at least warm enough for me to get back at it in the morning here.

Anyhow, I've been gearing up lately which is always fun:becky:

Got a box of 10 stainless rod holders delivered the other day...

I swung a pretty sweet deal from Prime Industries, two 0 degree, four 15 degree, and four 30 degree, 17 bux each, shipped free, nice:thumb:

Hoping to get back on track and on the gunwale rehab later this week. Cheers fellas!

Just found this thread. Boat is looking great! Can't believe how far it's came from the beginning. Makes me want to look for a project! Not sure what the wife would say HA! :argue:

 Looking forward to seeing the finished product! Really nice job so far! Congrats!

Nice price on the rod holders there. The arctic conditions we have been enduring is certainly getting to my patience. Another 5" snow this morning. Some indication of spring would be more than welcome right now. I've got fishing fever bad but the big lake has way too much ice and I don't foresee Saginaw Bay opening up anytime soon either.

I know inlines are pretty popular but I don't really care for them. I dislike having to drag a board and a fish in then to have to unhook the board to land the fish. I have been running big boards since the 80's and still love them. I went to the Big Jon Otter Boats a few years ago and wished I had sooner. They ride the waves never diving into them or flying out of the water at the crest of one. To me they are the simplest to use and nothing to interfere with when a fish is on them. But again, everyone has their personal preference.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I hear ya Willy. I've only run dipseys and jet divers and have never geared up for planer boards. I tend to think I'd like the big board set up better but I'd have a bunch more invested in the mast n' such. So, prolly start out with some in lines then go from there.

Yah, anything above zero seems pretty warm to me these days actually. I really need to get rolling on this boat again, I still have lots to do!

I just noticed you share a birthday with Chicago - 177 today. I guess that's a dubious honor for Chitown. Live long and prosper!
