Even though I liked it better with the top on, I can see the quality of your work is going to turn this into a stunning project.
And a very unique boat!

This may sound stupid but....with a boat this long, will there be any twist along the hull now that the top is removed?
I know that when you hack the roof off a unibody car there sure is. Or is the hull designed properly, then a top is added?

I would think that the decking and consoles would add the needed support from the loss of the cabin..

I suspect that Jas has left at least as much original bow cover around his hull's perimeter as SC did 'coming' around the open bow hulls that are probably not significantly different then the Islander's hull.

Yup, you got it guys, this is the same basic layout as an SS. However, all the deck structure is all tied into the hull too. I think I actually made a video talking about that a while ago. I do have a few more structure pieces going in that will beef it up even more still.

So yah, in short, she'll be bomber, no sweat:thumb:

OK, gentlemen I've finally worked my way through to something I can at least show ya.

Since my last progress post here's what I got done:

-Cut out two hatch bottoms for the big rod locker. Those will get wrapped in carpet to make a comfortable spot for reels and electronics to hang out.

-Installed the hatch ring for that big rod locker.

-Added filler stringers to cover up that pink foam in the two side hatches.

-"Capped" all the bow seating structure. That gives the whole setup extra strength/rigidity and something to attach my bow cushions to.

Here's a shot of what it looks like now...

So, with that, the bow seating structure is done! Cool:thumb:

My short list from here is to get all that cleaned, bunch of sanding/filling/fairing, and then seal it up.

After that I can move on to the gunwale structure work.

Still plugging along here fellas:encouragement:

Looks Great! Quick Question: How in the world did you install the hatch ring on the rod locker. I was wondering how you were going to do that after the main piece was already set (without good access to the underside). Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks doods! I kinda feel like the crux of the bow build is now behind me. I still have a fair amount to work through but I'm glad the challenging parts are dun eh:thumb:

PMC - You are actually looking at a 4 piece ring there my friend. It's hard to make out in the photo but you might just be able to see the seems. I first cut out the two shorter end pieces with the radius and installed those. Then I cut and installed the two long, straight pieces. For the install I used epoxy, clamps and screws. A little tricky for a dum ox like me but with some careful measurements not too bad. Make sense?

That is super work! Most guys would just end up using the original aluminum bow compartment dividers.

Looking real good Jason, and built bomb proof as usual.
