Good lighting is the key to spraying anything.

Yup, I have learned that rule several times actually:facepalm:

Where'd you source those handles?

Got em off eBay for cheap. It was a really long time ago so I don't recall the vendor, sorry dood.

Hey I was wondering if you could elaborate on your plans for the Mirro Craft?

i was thinking the same thing on the mirro craft

Well, at the moment I'd sell it if I could to help fund the rest of this Islander project. It's not a "must have" boat. I am finding that I can fit my Sea Nymph comfortably in places that I thought might be too skinny.

If I don't end up selling we'll rebuild er, we'll see:joyous:

If you keep adding neat things, all the runs will be covered up. :)

Have you thought of using very fine wet/dry sandpaper and wet sanding the runs? Will that even work? Dunno.

The dealer where I got my Merc has an end of season motor sale ad on CL and this caught my eye. I know your over it, but just as a reference as to what a new, year old, one goes for....

Sorry to hear about the paint... the good part is that you can fix it --- just a little more time... no problem man!!

Nice bling handles! Do I see spinners on the trailer wheels sometime soon in your future??? :)

Yah, this morning I decided that I'll be headed down the paint redo road.

I can only support this plan of action if you promise not to turn it into a horrible debacle ending up worse than when you started like I most certainly would.

Jas, I haven't weighed in but I am at the painting stage on my 25 foot Chief and I don't see how you can apply that much material with rattle cans. I am one third done with my boat and have applied one gallon of finish paint. I expect to apply a total of three gallons when I am done.

I think you are the thought leader when it comes to restoring tinny's but maybe you should find a buddy who can run an HVLP gun. No disrespect intended.

I understand about the paint and how you feel it is gonna reflect on you and bother you. Repaint if you have to but take one run and wet sand and buff and see how it comes out. It is a normal practice. Automotive painters have been doing it for decades. I don't know how the rustoleum will sand and buf but it is definitely worth trying. Runs are part of the business and there is no way to be sure you won't run the next shoot(no offense intended). It is a fine line between run and wet and wet and dry. Don't wanna see you drive yourself crazy. Thinking good thoughts and wishing you all the best.

I've had the same experience as you and the others above. Anything metal I have ever tried to spray paint did not turn out well at all. Didn't matter if it was a spray bomb, or a gun. Big messes.

Don't beat yourself up. Isn't black the hardest color to do also?

Sure you don't want to try again before winter? You said....only a couple days...

Jas, this is starting to resemble a battery placement issue...

You have pretty much decided to re-paint...STOP!

I mentioned this before...
Try the run removal tool...
th

A bottom feeder alternative is a new, fresh single edge razor blade...held at 90? to the surface and dragged across the run, very lightly, using both hands to guide it, similar to using a spokeshave in woodworking only on a much smaller scale...
Actually it is a very similar technique to using a card scraper...except in woodworking you push, on paint, with the razor blade, you pull...
011201028-using-a-card-scraper_smsq.jpg

It will begin to take the run out after several light passes...It takes practice, but from the sound of it, you have plenty to practice on...if you are lucky, good or just naturally talented and get the hang of it right off, you will not have to repaint, just a little cut and buff to bring back the shine...literally, you will only have to use some 1000 -1500 or finer grit wet sand paper, then polish it out...

Even if you don't get it right the first time, keep practicing on several other runs/drips...
If all else fails, you are going to re-paint anyway and you will have gained a valuable skill for when the runs appear in the next shoot...

Like has been mentioned...it is something that happens to the best and most experienced painters, even in flood lit spray booths...
And this is how they deal with it...a re-spray costs too much time and money, if it can be fixed with some minor labor efforts...

Best of Luck, bro...

Dude, really like the upholstery. How difficult was it to work with the pleats? Did it add much time?

My entire boat would be one giant sag if I loaded 3 gallons of paint on it. But we aren't talking about paint anymore!

Nope, the pleated stuff was no harder to work with than regular vinyl. This actually is foam backed, very nice, good quality stuff!:thumb:

I have one on the port side too. I love these, they are really high quality gear! Check it out, they even built in this spring on the cable to make it easy on the top when I take it off. Really nice!

After that, I cranked on a pair of stainless hose clamps for each fuel line. Man it felt pretty good to be plumbing up the blood lines of this old tub:thumb:

Great looking filler cap.

Is that the thru hull vent hole in the last pix?
