Your Photoshop skillz are much improved, Jason. But how did you manage to add the smell of fresh paint? :)

Gotta add my :thumb: the others. Nice!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey thanks fellas! Man it feels good to get that behind me! I woke up at a totally ridiculous hour today to get it done. The black looks really nice on there, though, I can only give myself a C+ for the work. I didn't take the time to set up my lights properly and struggled with runs. Rats. I have a fair amount and a few bad ones. Bummer.

I gotta say, lighting is so critical to being able to see the the wet out. I know this yet I didn't take the time to follow through. Drat.

Oh well, it looks nice from a distance and I'm fine with it. It's an amateur paint job from an amateur painter, I am what I am:joyous:

Yah guys, if I were to hit the do over button I would have made that bottom bare alum, just like the Jet Star, sweet combo right there. Hindsight sure helps.

All the same, she should dress nicely from here with some stainless/alum fittings and white decals:thumb:

Looking good Jason. As you already know and as I can recently say from experience, there is a heck of a lot of relief lifted off you shoulders once you get some color on the side of your boat! My Holiday project has ground to a halt since the birth of my son a few weeks ago so I'll be living vicariously through your progress for awhile!
Keep up the good work!

Just caught the fact that you actually slopped some paint on that old tub of yours...
I guess it's OK...
Just kidding, Broham! from this distance it looks pro...no worries on the runs, I get those too when I eat too much cheese...
Hey, no seriously, the worst of the runs can be gotten rid of after the paint is good and hard using one of these...

It is a Run & Nib removal tool, this particular one is made by Steck Mfg. but others are available...
Then some light sanding with fine, wet sandpaper, a little buff and polish, and Vwa-laa!
Of course you could just get used to the fact they are there and Fugettaboutit...:)

Really nice to see it all dressed up, looking good!

Jas the paint looks great. Dont worry about the runs. Like GT said, you can easily wait till the paint has fully cured and then wet sand with 1000 or 2000 paper then buff out the haze with rubbing compound and then wax and should be show quality. Good on ya for doing all this in the wee hours of the morn.

Man that's killer, in fact ... your going to freak some people out, they might think that Islander is a Killer Whale with that black over white scheme.

Doesn't look amateur from 700 miles east! Awesome color choice...looks really sharp with the two tone.

Love it.

Of course, you could always wire wheel the boat and start again if you really dislike those runs. :faint2:

Oh wow! The mention of the wire wheel just made my toes curl. And besides. If Jas goes that route we will be here another 209 pages waiting for the splash!

Beautiful Jas; Absolutely beautiful. I some how knew what color she was going to be. The pro kicker would be an awsome auxiliary power source. Perhaps if you wait a while somebody will have to sell theirs and you could pick one up for 1/2 price. Just thinking out loud.:thumb:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey fellas, thanks for swinging through and giving me the bump, appreciated!:joyous:

This morning I spent a long time walking around the boat, looking at my work. Most of it looks really nice, that black sure laid on nicely. Then I see the runs here and there, ugh. It's obviously just cosmetic but man I wince when I spot them. Some carefully placed decals would probably cover a few of em. I was yet thinking I may sand down and re shoot the whole thing. Aaaaaaakkkkkk! I really don't want to do all that extra work though! I'd really rather just move on and build the rest of this boat!

_______________________________________________________

So yah, on the kicker topic, I tend to agree with EZ up there ^^^^. I know I could probably find a good deal on the standard version, just like the good find that Dave posted up there, super reasonable I think! Tempting too. But, I throw on an aftermarket Panther/CMC tilt, add on a starter, and I kinda make my way into "Pro Kicker" price range. I do hope that one might come along on the cheap, we'll see. I won't be holding my breath though.

So after eyeballen my shoddy paint work this morning I decided I needed a win. So I bolted on a toy!!!

Nope, just Rustoleum Pro. I put that stuff through the test this summer with the Sea Nymph actually. When we were on vacation in Yooperland I had the boat moored seven days and nights of full submersion. No issues at all:cool:

Hey Jas - No one holding on to a rope or toy attached to that will even see the paint! :D

I have an idea on the pro Kicker, maybe if we all get together we can get Mercury to "sponsor" this boat? I mean, if this were youtube there would be enough action for them to cut you a check? Maybe if we get some seriously large Mercury stickers for the side we could convince them to shell out a 9.9?
