Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

IM - Yah, I think I can swing a quick video for you guys, give ya the lay of the land eh:joyous:

GA - OK, on the SN - honestly, I have been stewing all this time on the best build options for the seat part of the stern bench. In the meantime I certainly ought to be working huh. I do believe I finally have it figured how I want to do it. Maybe I take a quick video of those plans too. Right on?

DJ - Start from the beginning??? Yikes!!!:nightmare: Do so at your own risk bro! All the same I fully plan on floating this tin rig this summer!!!!

(Well, unless I don't. In that case it'll be next summer or the summer after that:whip:)

JB - I'll take those prayers my friend, I need em!!:joyous:

Alllllllrighty!

So, this morning I finished the prep work for installing the Starboard side seat box. It'll be mounted to the deck, the midships bulkhead, and the side panel. In an effort to make the whole setup way bomber I installed this fat 1"x1" alum angle all around with SS screws and 5200...

(basic orientation: you are looking at the inside of the seat box, top = towards the side panel, left = stern side, right = bow side, bottom = towards the boat ceterline, if that helps ya any)

Everything is pre drilled and ready for install on the morrow, stay tuned fellas!

Hey Jas,

I made these pads for my bench seat in the BF out of a plastic cutting board from the Dollar store. They worked great and keep the seat and wood off the floor about 3/16". Thought you might want to consider this but maybe not.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well guys, I hate to disappoint but other stuff got in the way of my early morning boat work today. Sorry about that!

WOG - Yup, I'll be building seat cushions for the back side of those seat boxes. Front side will be captains chairs on pedestals. That sort of stuff won't be for a while yet though - I'm guessing like early springish time.

IM - Yup, all the corners got hit with a router, check it out...

As per usual, looking really good Jas. When you're done I have an air ticket waiting for you to spend a week remodelling my bathroom and kitchen! :D

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey guys, thanks but I sure can't take credit twice! That router work was done about this time a whole year ago, ha!:loyal:

And no!, I'll not be wrapping glass around it! That's just gross...

TII - I warned you man, I come with a whole crew! And they eat a lot these days!!:hungry:

Complete and total change in direction real quick. I was yacking it up with an iboat buddy off the forum regarding electrical stuff. So....

On my rigs there was a certain point where I was sold on the ACR. Well, until I found a few posts like this by silvertip (I wanted to be sure to give him credit):

There is nothing more versatile, simple, and trouble-free (no electronics) than a dual battery switch (OFF - 1, BOTH, 2). You do not have to isolate circuits nor dedicate them to a specific battery. Either battery can be used for any purpose and either or both batteries can be charged or used for starting purposes depending on the switch setting. Most folks tend to over-think the switch and get all befuddled about when to use what setting. It is as simple as asking yourself what battery do i want to do the work at hand. START THE ENGINE?? set the switch to BAT 1 (if that is what you want the starting battery to be). If that battery is dead (doesn't matter why), simply switch to BAT 2. Whatever battery you have selected will be charged by the engine and will run all the accessories since the accessory feed should be to the COM terminal on the switch. In most cases you can Start, run, charge and park with the switch set to BOTH provided you don't park for hours at a time and/or run the troller on that setting. In those cases use BAT 2 (the troller battery). If you are switch-challenged and can't understand this, then a VSR is your best bet. In most cases you don't need both a switch and a VSR. But for versatility, low cost, and simplicity you cannot beat a dual battery switch. The diagram shows an outboard, but pretend it is your 4.3. I should add here that the trolling motor should be wired directly to the troller battery and the bilge pump to whatever battery you wish.

So yah, I'm buying what he's selling. I just wanted to drop that in here so you guys know why I didn't go with the ACR anyway. That's just me though eh:joyous:

That's what i'll be doing to, plus probably an onboard charger. My outboard doesn't output much for charging...

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks fellas!

For full disclosure and fairness purposes I have to say that DonS and Bruce both had perfect arguments for the ACR in the same thread that silvertip posted.

For me it was the simplicity/versatility piece that stuck with the simple switch, ya know.
