Hey JO, one thing i have had luck with when it comes to "helping" the adhesive for sliding is to use a little ronsonol lighter fluid. it evaporates and helps when moving it around a bit. just a thought. (feeting as it may it be)

Thanks for swinging through rrumba! I have also heard PowerTune helps the cause, but that's just unconfirmed word on the street.

Engine Install

Intro...

Here is some stellar camera work for ya...

Up and over the stern...
(this is long and boring for the most part, skipping ahead is encouraged)

After that I spent about a half hour pushing/pulling/lifting/tweaking/wrestling the engine to get those rear engine bolts lined up juuuuuusst right. That was a challenge...

There she is, in the Islander, awesome!

I've done a little thinking and I think I have it figured on how I want to build the stringer height, I'll hit ya with that later.

Cheers:D

I bet that right there made your day :D I think a block of wood would be sufficient to raise that up but I'm sure somebody else who knows better will chip in.
I couldn't help but laugh at the camera tipping over. Now we know why you have some many problems with your electronics :p

Great work there Jas. It looks good sitting in there. I was surprised we did not hear you on the video making puttering noises from her in there now. Could you use a 2" square tube to bolt it down to or maybe angle iron like RobJ did?

2" AL tube filled with plywood just like the stringers. That would make a good solid mount. It's good to see a powerplant almost in place.

Congrats! Man, do ya think you could get that Islander any higher off the ground? Wow, it must have been something to see that V6 hanging that high in the air........

It almost looked like the motor was flying in over the transom, instead of the boat sliding in just under the motor... Well done!

Great work Jason... Love how you have mastered the art of doing two person jobs by yourself...

I think any of the ideas above should work great...whatever you are most comfortable with... Of course you could always try your hand at a little glassin to give some wooden spacers some real strength and durability (just messin with ya man, I know you wouldn't taint your tinny princess like that)..

Keep at it... The vids are great!!!

Hey, wait a minute, if ya ballpark the iBoat's mob #'s, the SC mob is 1/2 glass. I figure even with all the itchin' & scratchin', we still got ya beat! BRING IT tinny! We still need to avenge our fallen brother Thumper........

Sharpen your lances & light the battlement fires! Make ready the trebuchet.......

As a 'glasser motored tinny, we claim sovereignty over this hull in the name of the Juckend Queen!

Jas is going to wake up in hour or two and realize we wrecked his thread again... We are sort of like the raccoons that rummage through stuff and turn over the garbage cans....

Oh yeah, I resemble that ^^^ remark....

He tolerates our (my) childish trashy raccon like behavior because of all the high marks & compliments he gets on his work!

Hey, Jas in like an hour ~ hour & a half, when you get started:

Again nice job on the whole motor install solo! Well done! And thanks for letting us pesky vermin in to wreck the place. You really should put a lock on that garage door.... I'm sure you'll have it all sorted out, squared away & tidy by the time the rest of us mortals roll out of the rack. I swear on the remains of my fallen glass brethren to behave & keep my raccoon locked up for a day or two.

Before I go, 1 last question:

raccoon.jpg

Thanks! And keep up the great work, you'll be set & ready when the ice breaks.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

GA's idea is a good one with the AL tubing. An easy way to do it is cut the ends down at 45 degree angles to make easy access to put your lag bolts into the stringer. Put a wood core in the AL tubing, stringer meat as you would call it, drill your holes and bolt down the motor mounts. Cheap and simple :D

Hey Jason, great job on the motor install. It is amazing what we can do by ourselves when we have to. Calling the wife out to help is just not an option at 3AM:D
