OK, got the port side panel on this morning. Man, that sure feels good!

Speaking of buying/selling....

http://saginaw.craigslist.org/boa/2459432072.html

I am way light on kicker funding these days but that there might have fit the bill. Let's see, what have I got to sell around here:rolleyes:

Hey, beauty of a day here in the middle of the mitt! Have a great weekend guys:D

That's a great motor. Fair price. I paid $400 for my Evinrude 4HP 5 years ago. It's an '89ish model. Heck of a motor. My uncle was looking for a motor and I found him a '98ish Merc 9.9 listed for $800 and I was dude you need to get that NOW. He did.

Yah guys, but I do my best to find ya the deals eh!

Hey fellas, on that Johnson 15hp kicker up there ^^^^^^.....

You spose that's a long shaft (which is what I'd rather have)? Kinda looks like it to me. I am reluctant to call him as that means I am getting ready to buy it:eek:

Unfortunately thats a shortshaft mate, no 5" extension section on the leg, easy mistake for an I/Oer dude.:D;)

One similar to the one in the link is what you're after......

Not the best example but you should be able to spot the difference......

Cool, thanks mark - just kinda looked long to be a 15". Good excuse not to spend cash I don't have:)

And I receive your IO backhand;)

If you were closer i'd cut you a good deal on the 9.9 johnson I have. It's gonna be a few years before i need it and hate to leave it sit. I'm sure shipping would be a killer though.

Dude, that is a beauty! All the hp I'd need and shoestring budget friendly!

Kinda looks to me like a short shaft though, bummer.

Hey, sorry bro! Didn't mean to leave ya hanging there, side panel...

I pounded on em and kicked em some, SOLID!

I do think I'll put a small alum channel along the top there to protect it from downrigger balls and what not being thrown on the shelf. I am also thinking it will make a great step to get up and out of the boat. Feels very solid under my 180ish load. I can tell that those panels firmed up the deck even more too, cool, like that.

You can see there is bubbling there with the PL. No biggie, sand it smooth, add if I need to, paint it up.

I also gobbed on some JB Weld to those scabbed trim joints...

I know it looks like carp right now but sanded down smooth I think it will be acceptable. You should just see a thin line of it once I am done (that's my thinking anyway). We'll see.

Man Mike, today was a beauty of a day here in MI. Wish I were on the water rather than thinking about it. Ah, someday.

It's gorgeous I agree...been out wrenching rusty bolts on my little trailer in this heat:D

One day we will no longer be drydocked and see how the other half lives:)

You could convert that kicker to a longer leg, by salvaging parts from one that has bad compression and is cheap.

Just thought I'd mention that since I know you also enjoy doing things the hard way, since it's more educational:D

I think some of you guys are getting to know me pretty well:rolleyes:

My 9.9 kicker was/is a long shaft. I have been picking up parts off ebay this past winter so I can now make it whatever I want when the time comes. It's not hard to do.

Nice work BTW...

Thanks dj! Yah, I think I'll hold out for the long shaft since I have no real cash anyway, bummer.

Yah right. You know how some guys say "A bad day fishing is still better than the best day at work!" Yah, I have a lot of bad days fishing. I still have a blast though!

OK guys, I am attempting to get my hands on the Merc next week. To do that I have a fair amount of hull prep that needs to happen first. So yesterday I tackled the aluminum trim.

I had a whole variety of stuff I tried but I think what ended up working best was starting with 120 grit on the belt sander (to work through the anodizing) then 220, 320, 400 each by hand. I finished with these 3M Metal Sanding Pad deals...

000 Steel Wool works well too but I didn't hardly use it for fear that pieces will fall into the alum and start reacting.

It was terribly tedious and took forever but I am happy with the results. I was fully intending on hitting everything with polishing compound (I already bought a bunch of that stuff) but I'm not so sure now. They have kind of a nice satin look to them that I really kind of like. Plus they match my Berts Tracks nicely. Check it out...

I think I may like that look better than like a shiny chrome sorta look, ya know.

Not too shabby. They used to look like a dog had been gnawing on them like a bone.

I still have about 20 more feet to work up. Then I'll go back and do one final finish pass on everything.

I can see that they are very vulnerable now though. Water marks and fingerprints instantly show up. So, here is what I'll do...

By the way, here is how one of those joints look with JB Weld sanded down...

I know, not beautiful. But, I'm cool with it. That is about as good as it's going to get I think.

Cheers

That turned out pretty good! Ya that sanding sure is tedious but sometimes its worth it. Looking forward to seeing that merc installed! Everything done is one step closer to splashdown!

Yah, my shoulder is still sore from yesterday's sanding. That was some grunt work.

Yah, I hope so too. My kitchen is totally torn apart so that is competing for my time (and winning). My bride seems quite intent on having me put it back together, imagine that:D
