JA, I say go for it. Allthough the videos would be fun to watch, I would hate to see a day on the water sacrificed at us older folks expense:eek: The sides are high enough for safety. You might think of replaceing the metal with a new fabrication because someone may want those pieces. And whats that I see on the ground....dirt? What happened to the snow? My God man, your getting warmer weather? Maybe spring really is getting here:D

Thanks buddy!! Yah, those ridges must go! I might be able to get to those this week yet, we'll see how much time I have.

Yah, with the rain and warm weather we have had I think the last of the snow has just about melted out, yessssss!

Well boys, the tide is turning on this project!

I just ordered up 2 sheets of 3/4" Marine Grade Plywood for the transom, that was pretty cool!

I have really never been that excited about plywood before, nice.

What a quality guy! No charge, not even shipping! He saved me from buying a bunch of new stuff and kept my rub rail stock!

Wow man, thanks again!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK guys, do you want to hear something funny?

Check this out...

So I have been working on this old boat all winter, OUTSIDE! You know, wind/cold/snow/rain/frozen boat, the whole thing.

Yesterday, my bride was tired of looking at the "ghetto boat" sitting so close to the house (close to all my tools) and said "can't you park it out over there" (pointing to a spot about 100 yards away, in the woods, out of sight) "or in the garage, or something?"

I responded that there was "no way" that thing was going to fit in the garage, "not even close".

And ya know what, IT FIT!!!

I seriously felt like I was engaged in some sort of magic trick getting this thing in there!

First I had to unlatch the garage door in order to push it up high enough to be out of the way.

I then backed her up into the garage with the little John Deere until the windshield was about to hit the garage. Then I unhitched and dropped the trailer tongue onto a furniture mover, you can see the wheels digging into my gravel driveway which was fun...

...pushed her back until I had to put another furniture mover underneath in the garage (take the weight off the first then put the weight back on the second). Here is how much clearance I had at the windshield...

...clearance at the stern...

...clearance at the tongue, with the garage door down...

I am pretty sure that you could fit a playing card through each of those clearances, but that is about it! After I got it in and closed the garage door I stood there in absolute disbelief that it was actually in there! I said out loud several times "I can't believe it fit." I was also in disbelief that I had been working all this time OUTSIDE! Man, what a dummy.

J good news, glad to hear she made it in the garage. You could've been done with the resto by now with a heated garage:D

Looks like you ended up with about as snug a fit as I did. I could've sworn I would need a swing-out tongue.

Tell ya what...when it's 90 and humid you will be workin in the shade(unless you finish the rig before summer:cool:).

Nice work with the dollies:)

"done with the resto by now" "finish the rig before summer" - man I love your optimism Huron! This thing has about as much chance getting done this summer as it does fitting into my garage! Oh, er, wait a minute...

Yah, that and so much more...

I was racking my brain on how to gluvit and paint this old barge outside. You see, rain is one thing but my main problem is that I live in the woods. With so much stuff falling from the trees, the bugs, the birds, cottonwoods and whatever else that decides to fall from the sky, my paint/gluvit job would have been ruined for sure.

I was thinking tarps, shelters, building a pole barn, using my buddies pole barn - none were particularly appealing options due to cost, convenience or both.

Man am I pumped to have this thing in there! The paint and gluvit work will be so much easier. Even better, my work shop is on the second floor of my garage so I have super easy access to all of my gear!!! Double bonus!:D

Congratulations on getting the boat in the garage! Does this mean that you are going to change your name to Jasinside?

Resto looks real good Bro. Making steady progress, you will finish soon. I'm taking the tarp of mine tomorrow and away we go. First I'll put the stickers on it cause I OWN it. Title is in my name now.

Just think how much closer to the ice box you are now....either no more problem spots or lots less getting done...either or, at least dehydration should be a thing of the past :D
