Good job on the clean up Jay. Now if your anything like me after a cleaning, your going to be standing around thinking to yourself where did I put that ____ it was just here. The trailer is looking good, it's getting closer to being checked off on the list of things to do.:D

That was actually the first thing I did once everything was put away:rolleyes:

By the way guys, I spent a little time walking around on the deck barefoot - I think I will be very happy with this sand application:):D

Good one Mike! But we all know, given the heavy "Sammich" history of Jas, the REAL reason the trailer is beefed up!!!

Look'in good Jas!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks boys!

So today I got the trailer all painted up and partially assembled. I still need to hang the fenders, bolt on the safety chains, lights/electrical, fabricate and install guide on's, and last (but the best) decals!

Anyway, I hoisted up the Islander, backed up the trailer and loaded up...

No incidents, just basic grunt work.

I pulled her out into the drive...

Some of you guys may remember that bright green jack wheel I had on there. Well, whenever I walked down the isle with the wheels at Menard's the red one always caught my eye. Today I gave in with a little of my b-day $ stash. Green one is gone, red one on...

Adds a little zing in the mix anyway. Maybe it's just as ugly as that green one???

I know it's not much but I was pretty excited to see her on the trailer, out of the garage and in the drive like that. I am working through the future tasks in my melon, and well, I kinda think the next time she will be off the trailer again, she will be floating! That will get a fella pumped!

I am glad she is out from the long winter. I think I'll just keep her out with the cover from here on. I would so much rather work outside anyway.

Have a great weekend guys!

Nice job on the trailer my friend. As I saw the pic, I was thinking " Bet Jas was smiling when he saw her on the trailer". Then I read your post.....;) I've been hiding in the shadows watching your progress. Keep it up and you will be floating sooner than you think.:D

Look at you all fancy with a boat on a trailer. If you listen carefully you can here the lines humming in the wind out on the lake.

Thanks Jerry! Yah, it'll look good for a couple of years anyway. I'll prolly have to hit it with another coat of paint to keep it looking good.

As I was standing there in the drive I was thinking about the day I get to launch her. I am not afraid to admit that I had some butterflies going.

Hey, what are you hiding from? Should I hid too???

Aaaaakkkkkk! No propulsion!

I'll get there bro!

We both can dream for such a thing man!

Thanks for swinging through PST!

Well, you'll see I didn't have much of a close up. You'll find drips and runs buddy. I'm no pro and it'll be functional anyway.

I can't wait either!

You are right, I think I can hear it! Yah baby!!:D

Hey real quick, for you Rustoleum fans...

When I was painting up my trailer I and grabbed some Rustoleum rattle cans from Menard's. They now have this "High Output" can. They claim that it's like 50% faster application. I think I'd tend to agree, purdy good stuff! The trigger top is a lot nicer too. I think when you are spending all kinds of time painting up a whole trailer it has definite advantages.

Just a heads up is all.

Cheers!

That makes two of us Ez. Trailer's looking good Jas... so's the Islander. You could always plug up that nasty big hole in the transom, throw on an OB and launch her! :D

Thanks doods!

Yah TII, I was thinking about just going OB on a bracket. Maybe I'll sleep on it:p

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Wow, we went from winter to summer quick! Michigan buds know what I am talking about! I think we made it over 80 today, whaaaaaaattt!!!

So now that the hull is sitting on the trailer I figured I do some tweeking.

First off I noticed the bow roller was mucking up my el cheepo Rustoleum paint job, see here...
P1050309.jpg

P1050310.jpg

I'll give that spot a light sand and a quick spray later.

So I decided to take that roller off and throw on a bow stop instead - more distributed surface area, hope that helps...
P1050311.jpg

I also had to shim up a couple of the risers on the port side bunk to get the hull sitting just right.

Moved the winch stand back about 5" so the stern/transom was sitting right on the end of the bunks...
P1050313.jpg

I choked and made the jack white instead of gray, sorry I am so lame/boring. Got the safety chains bolted on too...
P1050312.jpg

Bunch of touch up paint all around too.

I am itching to move on to other things but I know all this little stuff would bug me down the road, might as well do it right the first time.

And back into the 60's for a high after tonight, LOL. Only in Michigan. Can be working on the boat in your speedo one day and winter coat and shorts the next.:D

Whats up with the paint bud? It looks like its soft or something, how long has it been on?

After seeing how huge your trailer jack is now...I feel sillly having asked if it gets the bow high enough:D

You aren't kidding about summer arriving in Michigan, well into the 80s out this way.

Nice work on the trailer, it's looking great.:)
