Good deal........... looking awesome, see how easy upholstery is!

I am using my Nostradomas powers to predict in this quatrane...

"the rod holders shall get some sort of foam padding, as to keep the rods from rattling about when under way"
"The beer will flow when the summer is upon the bow, a large fish will flop upon the deck"

:p

How good is that foam at keeping out water or holding it in? Love the idea and am picking up parts for my dash and motor cover so that would be a lovely inexpensive foam. Please let me know how quickly you think it will dry or if it will absorb water at all

~Adam

To answer your question the foam is pretty water resistant. Took a chunk and threw it in a cup of water all day. Just the outside cells had water in them. Other than that it did not soak up much if any.

Hey Thrill, everything is looking GREAT!!!
One question, when you coming to NY, I now have double the trouble to restore Lol. That was a really great find with the foam

Hey Vegas, no quoting Nostradamus or the Mayans for that matter if it was up to them, we would only have 2 more years of fishing left :eek::eek: Lol

Man I saw your other boat, thats gunna be fun!!!

Got some more work done on the interior, its a slow process of planning, designing and re designing.

Here is what we got done today.

Finished building the rough structure of the rear seat bases.
Here is what the old ones looked like.

We trashed those and built these....

Re: 1975 Omega Restore, the project goes on.

Here is both seat bottoms roughed up sitting next to the finished engine cover.
Rearseatbase6.jpg

Tomorrow we will finish sanding them, route the edges, maybe cut the new wood for the actual seat cushion, (bottom is rotted out, top is bone dry both original). The seat bottom will be hinged and the box used for storage.

These will be PLed to the deck, then more than likely kiwigrip'ed along with the deck. No fiberglass will be put on these, going to rely on the kiwigrip to water proof them :)

Oh, btw the right (passenger side) seat bottom is the same height as the drivers side, the cushion for some reason is squished down more.

Re: 1975 Omega Restore, the project goes on.

Couple of comments...it's been a while since I've checked out your thread Thrill.

Looking great so far! I wish I could get out to work on my boat, but -26 weather and no garage/shelter puts a quick end to those thoughts!

The first thing that went through my head when I saw your aluminum bracing for the cap was, I hope there is wood fiberglassed behind that section...seems that just drilling through the glass and bolting to it for support might find itself flexing over time and elongating the holes, causing rub damage long term...maybe not if you used lock nuts though....my Glastron supports the cap by running SS bolts with locknuts through the glass and it held up well, but there was a lot of support panels. Something to think about before you commit to closing that in before you can't muck with it easily.

The second thing was that I really like the rear seat bases...absolutely an excellent idea. One thing that I would consider though, is creating a vent slot or two in the front of the boxes for ventilation. I think the majority of the rot comes from bilge water evaporating and trying to find a way out...usually finding itself clinging through condensation on the backside of the support board for those jump seats and the bottom of the seat cushion. You could say that you'll flip the seats up and open whenever the boat is parked, but you can't guarantee you won't forget. ;)

Beyond that, very inventive ideas, ones I'm sure will be stolen and used by many who peruse your thread ( myself included ):D

Redfury man I thought u quit for ever I haven't seen u on in a while, but then again I have been MIA for a couple weeks also.

There is wood laminated to the back of the cap where the braces are :)

As for the rear seat bases, there is a vented space next to the seat back. Although the inside of the seat bases are closed off to the bilge I can't imagine that moisture WON'T get in there. I love your idea of the vents. We shall see if we can find some cheaper than 1,000,000,000 dollars at west marine or somewhere else.

We went to west marine for some latches for the top part of the dog house and they were 37.99 for ONE!!!! Went on iboats and they don't have the ones we want. Got them at jamestown for 15.98 each.

Re: 1975 Omega Restore, the project goes on.

Awesome, so we found that all of the mercontrol splines on the lever are GONE, the only thing controlling throttle was the set screw......... So I have been searching all over for parts and there are none.

Found a really old thread on here and apparently you can not get parts for them.

Anyone run into this or maybe know how to fix damaged splines? We were thinking just drill a hole straight through and bolt it on. I am stumped....

Re: 1975 Omega Restore, the project goes on.

Here is our finished rod holders, we are more than likely going to use a bungee type system on the hooks.
Finishedrodholders.jpg

Started our gunwale pads
GunwalePadbase.jpg

Cut out our speaker hole, these will be as close to flush mount as possible
FlushMountSpeaker.jpg

The drivers side is where we ran into the mercontrol problem. Lost Cause cut out the gunwale to be able to mount the throttle control behind the gunwale.
He then braced it and it is solid. Then the Gunwale pad will go over it.
