Re: 1974 Starcraft Chieftain 18' OB refit

Here is a better shot of the locker. I have a board that goes on the bottom but it's in the shop for some tweeking. I think all the storage areas will have some rubber door mat material on the bottom eventually. Lowes has biguns I can chop up.
Question...I know the epoxy isn't UV resistant but do we really need to paint over the epoxy that is going to be hidden?

Michael, are you suggesting I pretend like I drive my boat(s) while they are sitting still in the garage? Sometimes without an engine even installed?

I might:D

I wouldn't think you need to paint up sub deck stuff.

Happy new year buddy!:)

Beautiful work! Where did you find those gauges? I have to replace all mine too and have priced them way over $200 and they aren't nearly as nice.

Thanks for the congrats on the job guys. WOG must be right ;). For a while there I thought I'd have to pimp myself out at cougar town. I doubt that I could have made truck payments on that income.

Jason - Thanks for the input on painting the epoxy. I may paint it if its convenient.
Oops, did I suggest that out loud? Sorry bud..... It's fun tho isn't it? :D

rheagler - I love the below deck lockers in my SS (there are 3) so I had to have at least one on the chief. I figure that I could afford loosing some of the flotation.

WOG - 6 weeks is pretty quick but I worked hard at job searching. If I were a CNC or manual machinist again I could have had something in week 1. Shops have been busy all along.

nphilbro - Here is the model and part# of what I ordered. Faria Chesapeake Series 4 Gauge Set Outboard 678-KTF002. Can't fine them for the same price ($121)but I came across a 6 guage set on Ebay for $99 used but looking good.

Santa brought all brand swanky new hand rail parts so I can make new ones that go on the gunwales. All stainless!:D Pics when there done.

Thanks for chiming in gents and I hope you all have a great new year!

Finally a bit of progress here. Installed the new helm and a bracket to add a second battery on the port side. The pics are a on the dark side but hey.

Focusing on a couple of wood working projects I promised my sisters so no boat progress for a while. One project is a hammered dulcimer. Remember that 90 y/o piano I dissasembled last summer? I'm retasking that lumber to build it.

Hope your all keeping warm.

Mike

Alrighty then..Back at it.
Finished projects for both sisters and one was Dulcimer and a bit time consuming. http://s1098.photobucket.com/albums/g374/randor88/Dulcimer/?action=view&current=DSCF3031.jpg

Next on the list is a bifold cuddy door. Not sure how I'm going to keep it shut so I can use some suggestions. I'm thinking I'll need a lip along the top for it to rest against.

Some may remember my mentioning a buddy of mine who took the Starchief way back in one (if not the) first posts. Last night he announced that he doesn't want to reastore her so it's going up for sale. Getting a different boat. It's a 1969 Starchief 18 O/B on a Snoco trailer. Its all gutted and cleaned out. Hull is in excellent shape. No #s but in Maine they will issue a new ser# when you register it with a BOS. I think it was strictly a fresh water girl. Here are some pics. Going on CL soon and I'll link it on the other thread when I do but my buds get the prevew first.
