lol...I had to take a poke at you with the core. Looks like you made some pretty good progress this weekend.

The prison pictures were pretty cool. I had no idea it was filmed in Mansfield.

Yeah its cool, I can take it!

Yup, the whole movie was filmed here except the cellblock. Even the downtown scenes where Brooks and Red worked at the grocery store and walked around. It just downtown Mansfield. Still looks the same as it did in the 60's. Not nastalgia, just run down. That whole area is just the remnants of what used to be. That area sure did boom at that time. Now it looks like Detroit. No offence Johnny!

That is a lot of bracing you have going on in that hull! I'd be tempted to drop a mouse in one end with cheese on the other. ;) What do you mean not finishing this year?! Take some vicadin and get back to work! :D I don't even have back issues, but man was I sore after leaning over those deck boards all day rolling on resin. It took my a while to become fully vertical again. I have the same issue with the lumpy PL. I think it may be linked to spreading it around? Sometimes it sets up perfectly smooth and other times it bubbles up into this nasty mess. I'd love to find with some measure of certainty what causes the difference.

boat093.jpg

In this pic, is it illusion or does the hole on the right look too far up the slope for all of the water to drain from that area? I wouldn't want to see trapped water in there once it is together. Maybe fill in that area so the water diverts into the hole if you don't want to expand the hole.

I haven't noticed any stringer drains in the photos. Are you planning on drilling holes in the stringers to drain the upper sections? I hated drilling holes in my nice perfectly waterproofed stringers, but I just know there no way I'm going to prevent water from somehow sneaking up into that upper portion. I'll just glass the living poo out of the drain hole.

Yeah, its an illusion. The hole is right up against the tank support. I also intend on putting the same half rounds in the stringers at the correct low spots but like you, I just havent brought myself to drilling into my hard work yet. I wanted to do it after the string was in because the holes there will need to be drilled at an angle to match the hull shape. Couldnt do that till they were in and glassed. Now all I have to do is drill the hole then shape it with a small air saw then trim up a piece of PVC to match the hole, fill it all in with epoxy PB and call it a day. THose along with the bilge drain will be the last thing I do before placing the deck.

And I hear you on the mouse trap maze of crap under my deck. There was just no way around it. Once I decided to go with the below deck tank I had to do this. But in the end I think I will like the tank enough to make it worth it. I hope!

And I have tried my hardest to not have to use opiates for pain relief...idiot! I just dont want to be a drug addict. The docs are still telling me that there is hope for a recovery over time. Until I know there is no chance for that I will continue using only non narcotic means. Ill tell you what, you are lucky for that fact too, If I was using vik or perk this thread would be one post long. I wouldve been done the first day:eek: But I probably would have gotten distracted by cleaning the house, including the roof shingles one at a time and each square inch of carpet with a toothbrush! Thats the problem, I like narcotics a LITTLE too much, know what I mean?

Looking good man. That is quite a maze of stringers and bulkheads you have there. So to make the holes in the bottom of the bulkhead you used a drill at an angle and then used saw to clean it up?? You are doing it the way we had planned. The original holes in my Chap were about an inch or so off the deck, which mean you had to get a build up of water before it started draining. Seems to me that's too late. Having a hole on the bottom of the stringer or bulkhead is definitely the way to go....

Actually, I did not use a hole saw for the ones that you see now. I took a piece of 1" pvc which is like 1.25" OD and cut it down the center then cut those half moon shaped pieces to 3/4" thick(thickness of strigers) then traced their outline onto the wood and cut them with my jigsaw. This way once I PB them inside the wood, there will be no exposed wood for water to touch. The ones that I need to put in my stringers that are already glassed are the ones that I will have to use a hole saw or spade bit at an angle to take out the very bottom of the stringer all the way to the glass hull so that water will not have to build up like you said. Mine originally had little 1/2" tubes about 1/2" above the hull. Very poor design but better than nothing at all I guess. I will take pictures when I cut them I promise. It is harder to explain it than to just do it and show you a picture. I have found that to be the case with just about everything I have done on the boat so far. It is a hands on learning thing not so much reading. Reading helps you to get the feel for what you need to do and to know the terminology but some of this stuff you just cant explain without a literature degree:D

What a great looking boat and awesome work on it. I love the tank idea. I just wished I thought of that when I did my boat. Nice job. Congrats, it's going to be beautiful.

Very good work you have done so far, your restore is the one that inspired me to buy my own project boat, instead of going for one already redone...

Really?????? Wow, thanks and your welcome! Sorry to drag you down this long hot, stinky itchy road with me.. I wish you the best of luck with your project. The last month I have not been doing too well with my back so progress has pretty much come to a halt. I did try to get out there this weekend and get some work done but all I could muster is getting peanut butter epoxy fillets over all the PL bedded substructure:( Just hurt too bad and the 90+ weather isnt helping any at all. THat and the PGA tournament. I am a golfaholic! I watch all 4 days of every tourney. When its major time that just means I have to watch twice the golf as usual as they often play 8 hours of air time per day. And I watch every minute.

I will get some pics here in a few and update even though it really is nothing progress wise. But it was something. ANother thing that is kinda draggin me down is that my buddy hasnt come over the last 3 weekends...guess hes burnt out on it. It happens, be prepared for it. THe best cure for burnt out syndrome is to check a few of the threads that you keep up on and when the guy makes a leap forward in progress that is usually enough to get you back in the garage! Lowkee does that for me, as well as bigredinohio. THey are both doing an outstanding job on their restos as well.

Thanks for the kind words, do you have a thread yet?

Re: 1973 wellcraft 165 sport airslot project w/ pics

So, as I was saying, havent been feeling too good lately. THis weekend I spent most of it writhing and pain with a heating pad. Those outer stringers really put a hurting on me. Up until then I was feeling pretty good and making some headway, even thought I would have a deck on 2 weeks ago...

NOPE

Just got the substructure wood all epoxy peanut butter filleted. Thats it. Pretty sad update I guess. Maybe I will feel better this coming weekend and the weather may be a bit cooler then I can hit it hard!

So, i mixed up several batches of cabosil thickened resin and went at it with my fillet tool (paint stir stick rounded over;))

And as you can see here, I have installed the half round pieces of 1" plumbing PVC in the drainholes to keep wood exposure to a minimum. On the bottom of these I just used PB to cover it and I will probably glass over it with some of my 10oz cloth that I am going to use on my deck, if I ever get there...

Also, as you can see, my next step is to start snapping some chaulk lines to get the last few pieces of the puzzle at the correct height then round them over with the router. THen a layer of glass and im on to the deck...hopefully

Looking good man! I really like the water channel system you are doing. Much better than the original. Hope your back gets to feeling better soon. Too bad your bud has gotten burnt out. Are you keeping the fridge stocked with beer? That usually keeps my friends coming back. :D

Hey, I appreciate what you said. You have the same influence on my progress just so you know.
