Will she take the boat off the trailer for a 6 pack? No, then maybe a 12 pack. :D

Hi, GA! Heck she won't even go for a 1 pack (but that's OK 'cause it leaves more for me) so I've been thinking about sending her, I mean the Admiral, out for Ripple.

The new axle is a no-brainer. Yes they are surprisingly reasonable. Buddy of mine also got a complete custom axle for around the same price you were quoted. I got one for mine for less at Tractor Supply but that didn't include the springs.

You are right, ezmobee, although it's not a "no-brainer" if a snuffy like myself does not know about this axle option; I'd always thought a person either ordered all the individual parts and assembled the new axle himself, or, just replaced parts as needed. It is interesting to note that there were three of us guys in the auto repair shop at the time I learned of this and NONE of us knew we could order/replace the entire axle as a factory pre-built assembly and receive it delivered and ready to bolt onto the trailer. We learn new things every day and this axle discovery may be of some use to those reading the forum thread. We have a Tractor Supply store close to where I live and I'll compare costs and equipment; thanks for the lead.

Joe I didn't know any of that either until I needed to work on my trailer. A guy I went to high school with owns an RV dealership/shop with his family so I went to them to try to find parts to replace my bearings. I had these really weird spindles and although they said they could probably find the parts, it would be trial and error to get them right. They actually told me to check at Tractor Supply which was super cool of them. You'll be surprised by how much trailer stuff TSC has and in-stock.

We go to the Tractor Supply store often to get our Ellie her dogfood, and, that's where we selected her (or, rather, SHE selected us) 11 years ago while viewing puppies and dogs brought in by an adoption group. It is a nice store and the parking lot is always full. Again, I've seen all the trailer and axle parts at TC but did not know I could purchase a complete unit. I'll be asking about that on the next trip.

Lots of info online about their axles. To me axle is $169+Tax, for a 3500lb 5X4.5 lug hub to hub axle. 2000lb is $149 I think. Ordered ship to store free, you could pick it up on your next dog food run. :D

There is a spring shop over by Chum's Corners. North side of the road (31). They helped me out a few years ago with some extra leafs in my old Gator trailer. You might ask them the cost a new axle and spring package.

I picked up a 2500# axle, 48" perches, no springs, for $138 last year from a local trailer shop.

Thanks for the leads, guys! The pricing gets better all the time. I will certainly check out TC online and look for that spring shop. And I thought I couldn't do anything more with the boat, until Spring, once the snow came.......HA!

Well gang, it's official. Miss Joyride is now parked in the backyard down by the woodpile with her nose in the air to facilitate draining. There is nothing left in the boat so there should not be any problem. October has been a very wet and cold month and the weatherman calls for lots of rain through Saturday with possible snow. Plenty to keep me busy, though, as I'll work on cleaning up parts in the garage. See you all in the Spring!

You must have parked the snooty lady next to a glasser.

Yeah - I'm with Dozer. Still lots of tin talk over the winter months. And searching for the off season bargains, too.

Hi gang!! We have blue sky, the birds are back and singing and the snow is....still here...but it's melting!! Miss Joyride is surrounded by snow from 12 -18 inches deep at the time. In truth, I haven't done anything on the parts this Winter; it was just too cold and I was ill for about 3 months. But it's Spring!! Can hardly wait to get back on the restoration this year with some ideas I've come up with over the Winter months. It's going to be fun and I really hope all the friends I've made here will check in and join the adventure. I sure enjoyed it last year with your comments and helpful suggestions. Hope you all had a safe Winter and looking forward to hearing from you again. Take care and will get going on the Starcraft SS soon. Cheers!!!

Joe

Thanks guys! I am feeling much better; the flu (three strains in this area), couphing until I passed out numerous times and severe headaches made this Winter a hellish time. Glad that's over. Looking forward to working on our boat and really appreciate the welcome back AND a new friend on the first post back. We are going to have FUN!

Good to see ya back Joe. Won't be long and it will be launch time on the water. We still have the harbors mostly iced in yet in the southern end of Lk Huron. Still hoping for an early splash but got just a bit of work left to do. Sorry to hear of your ailment but the weather is changing and flu season should be on the way out.
