It's been almost a year since I've posted and I'm here to tell you my blood content is back to normal after last years skeeter invasion. So far, this Spring, we have been able to spend time outdoors with only a swat or two required now and then. Went down to the boat and....well, see post #359 for the plan...LOL!! I'll pull the boat up to the garage this coming week and start working on the Super Sport again. Still have a few pieces to remove and then it's on to the restoration process. Best regards to all!

Safe boating,

Joe

...was down by the stacked firewood and the boat a week or so ago and while looking the 'ole gal over I noted the rather large amount of yellow striped flying activity around the bow area on the starboard side. LOTS of Hornets!! Thankfully, I was standing back of the transom when I started rocking the boat. Took a couple of "doing" to get rid of the yellow Hornets and the nest. Went back after a day or so and then saw the new neighbors that had quickly moved in...Black Face Wasps or whatever they are called. And THOSE are REALLY mean!! After mustering up all of my courage it was back to the fight and I sprayed the heck out of them and their nest which took care of the problem. I knew the 'ole gal was not happy to be left by the woodpile like she was but I never figured she'd get back at me like that! So, it's time to pull the boat up to the garage and remove the rest of the metal parts and get her cleaned up. Our local Minards has Marine Plywood (no Air Force or Army Plywood though) in 3/4" and 1/2" thickness x 4' x 8' sheets. Joyce says I should be cutting transom and flooring pieces.....soon....

Check to see if they have Arauco plywood. It is about 1/2 the cost and works great for floors and transoms. Might be listed as ACX sits right next to the Marine ply at our local Menards. Ask a employee, if you can find one.

Had a bee sting right on my nose this year when pulling the boat out. Darn buggers made a nest in my trailers night launch light cover.

Glad you are back at it.

I remember riding in my Dad's green Stracraft when it was new around 1970. I was actually looking for a green 16 with a Johnson before buying the one we have now. Hope you keep it that cool Starcraft Green. Sharp little boat, good luck on your re-build.

Actually I would like to keep the StarCraft Green color, along with a Sand or Light Tan, though I am also thinking of Red (to match my Ranger PU and White. Lots of choices that I can hold off on for awhile as there is still much work to be done. It's been raining and HOT/HUMID here for the last week or so. Don't know where Summer went but we didn't see much of it in this neck of the woods. Am thinking Fall just has to be better...

Yup, pretty sure September is going to be a warmer month than August was this year here in the Great Lakes State.

Color doesn't matter to me. I'm color blind by choice and struggle when in matters. Just make the boat leak free and have enough foam, so if something goes really south you will be A-Okay. Function over glamour.

I've been on Long Lake when the wind is blowing hard from the NNW. Choppy four footers with whitecaps is not fun in a 16'er.

Actually I like the Fall weather best of all for outdoor activities like boat work. Seeing as you mention Long Lake, where about are you located 64osby? The Admiral and I have a LONG way to go before color becomes something requiring a decision; right now the boat needs a good cleaning!

I'm near Kalamazoo, but vacationed at a friends cabin on Long for 8 of the past 10 years.

It is a fantastic lake to be on, with all the islands. We could swim to the small island from the cabin. Every year we would find a bunch of Petosky stones.

Forget the name of the place but south of Interlochen, there is a smoke house has the best double smoked bacon. The brats are very good too.

Yes, Long Lake is a nice place to vacation! We are blessed with quite a number of pretty lakes within a reasonable driving distance. I am thinking you are talking about the Karlin area with regards to the smoke house...perhaps the small party store at the light?

That would be the place. Some of the best bacon I've ever had.

Would love to have a summer place up around there, but the lottery hasn't paid off yet.

Progress!....of sorts....

Pulled the boat up to the garage, filled the tires back up with air, and spent the next three hours washing out the inside to remove the accumulated dirt and "whatever". Looks a lot better now and it's time to remove some more rivets and remaining parts. Had a beautiful warm, and clear, weekend and the Admiral thought a Yard Sale would be a good idea...it wasn't. Will try and get something done today. Am thinking about getting one of those fabric storage shed structures to put the boat into for the Winter so I can work on it. And so it goes....LOL!!

Snow and fabric sheds don't mix that well. I've been doing it for years but not without issues. Heavy wet snow and rain after snow are the real killers.

along those same lines, I've used a 10x24 portable garage with a heavy duty (that's usually an upgrade) cover for 6-7 years...they hold up pretty well in all conditions. It's recommended to go out and scrape the snow from it...it slides off fairly easily with this shape:
