Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

Well, I have been trying to get a title for the boat and have been having some problems. It came with an out of state title and they are telling me I can't get a title for it. Until I can get that straightened out I'm not going to put any money into it.

I still havn't got my truck fixed and today my car spun a rod bearing so I really should get those fixed before I work on anything else. It seems when one thing goes wrong ten others go with it.

Funny this thread shows, a good friend of mine had this exact same boat growing up a couple years ago. It sat out one winter and the transom got all messed up and he sold it on craigslist in Buffalo. Some kid bought it and redid some of it. I just texted him asking what year his was because this looks identical. By any chance did it have a white vinyl interior and a chrome ski pylon?

Dude, sorry to hear about all the misfortune hitting you right now. Prayers are with you that they all turn around for the better and the wedding goes well.

The boat came from Illinois. The interior was yellow and didn't have the ski pylon

It hasn't seemed to get any better that's for sure! As long as we can come up with the rest of the money we need for the wedding it should go smooth.

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

I got my title issue all straightened out so I should be able to start work on it again after the wedding. We did make it out to the lake on the 1st and I even did a little water skiing. The water was pretty cold still but it was nice to be back on the water. This weekend we did a little fishing and I caught two 8-10 pound catfish and a snappng turtle that was probably close to 15 pounds. I'll try to post some pics once I find the camera again :D

I started building a cradle for the boat today so I can get it off the roller trailer and will be able to pull the stringers and transom out. I have a ton of 2x4s laying around so I thought I would put them to use. I will need to go to menards for some carpet for the cradle and will probably get some 6" casters from harbor freight to help move it around.

Things are going good. I still havn't got my truck fixed. The better business bureau closed my case so I'm now out $1800 that I paid for the transmission. We have been trying to get some money saved up so I can atleast put a used one in for now. I'm really starting to miss my truck :(

Back in February my transmission went out so I bought a reman unit. They said it was a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty even if I put it in. I got it put in and made it about 100 miles before it started acting up. I took it in for them to look at and they said they wouldn't warranty it due to an "installation error" but wouldn't tell me exactly what the error was.

I dont work on them for a living but have always redone/worked on my own when possible. Both manual and auto. If you dont mind me asking what is it doing and what kind of trans is it.

They didn't tell you what was wrong with it.

Did you use a credit card to purchase it by chance?

It's a 4r75e in an 07 4x4 f150. It wouldn't hold line pressure. I'm assuming something with the front pump or torque convertor but it fried the clutches with no fluid going through them. I paid for the reman unit with a check.

That's newer than i am personally familiar with. I end up helping lots of friends with troubles because I'm willing and before i was married with kids, had the time. I have encountered used out of spec pumps in "rebuilt" transmissions on more than one occasion. Also on the late model stuff that have lots of electronics, the solenoid packs get re-used frequently with just a "cleaning/flushing" and "test". It sucks!
It seams that good transmission shops are getting harder to find especially as transmissions have become more complicated. The upside is the new more complicated transmissions are generally more dependable.

Did you reuse your converter?
Flush the lines and cooler?

Also some of the newer Ford stuff has a very odd fill while running form the bottom procedure. Then after it is put through the gears it will take some more fluid. Ive seen quite a few under-filled. Even by supposedly knowledgeable transmission shops. The one in my Ford SUV is like this. It has no dipstick or fill tube. Is yours like this?

In the future...Credit card companies will go to bat for you if mistreated by a merchant, its about the only thing they are good for! Lol

Sorry for your troubles. Hope you get it sorted out. Congratulations on the marriage!!!

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

The reman tranny came with a rebuilt convertor. I flushed the lines and replaced the auxillary cooler befor I put the new unit in.

Mine still has the dipstick. I have worked on the ones you have to fill from the bottom of the pan and they suck!

Tomorrow or Monday I will be picking up a used transmission to put in so I'm hoping things turn around and it holds up. Only downside is I will have to spend a day cleaning the garage to be able to get my truck in there

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

Today I pick up a used transmission for my truck along with fluid, filters and line flush. If all goes as planned (which rarely happens) it should be finished up tomorrow. I would have done it today but work got in the way as usual.

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

Yep, I had the transmission in and going by noon yesterday. I had to go online and update my edge programmer as it wouldn't read the new tranny. My speedo was 15 mph off due to my 35" tires and 4.56 gears.

Re: 1972 Glastron GT-160

I'm happy to report that after 400 miles of abuse (driving) the new transmission is still holding up.

I worked on the cradle a little more yesterday. I just have a few more pieces to screw on but I ran out of screws (go figure). I went and picked up four 8" casters from harbor freight today and some carpet for the bunks so I should be able to have it completed by then end of the weekend. Monday is going to be a lake day :D We havn't been out on the boat since April 1 so it will be a nice change of pace. I hope everyone has a wonderful Memorial weekend!
