Yeah, I have a bunch of pictures I need to resize and upload and update my thread. I have been slow :)

I was hoping to avoid removing the splash well but your right, it would make it a lot easier.

Hey Gibbles --- here you go....

Picture of pc # 2 --- the more complicated of the 4 floor boards:

IMAG0118.jpg

I also wrote down some measurements on paper to give you an idea for cutting ---- if you can't read the measurements, let me know and I can scan it. One note: The measurements of 9 1/4 and 19" along the side of pc # 2 are to the bottom of each cutout measured from the stern towards the bow.

IMAG0125.jpg

Also note the next picture is the angle cut to get a tighter fit on all the boards --- especially pc # 2.

IMAG0119.jpg

Let me know if this helps... hopefully helpfull for others as well (Jupiter Rebuilder's)...

You rock!

thank you :)

I hate to even bring it up.. but I was just thinking about the side pannels...

even a picture of one laying on the cement would help me out!

I tried to make some for my jetstar and gave up, but the jet is an odd shaped boat.

If your even up to it; no hurry, and please take your time :D

You have already helped me out alot, even though I keep hijacking your thread

No trouble at all --- any time! I'll get you a picture and measurements of the side panels. They are pretty straight forward compared with the floor. Glad I can help and be able to give something back!

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Hey Fellas,

I heard the boat "calling" me early this morn... not jas early... but 4:30am is early enough for me. Had a productive session (it really is like theapy :) and have the boat now stripped down enough for a flip and rip (the paint off). As I mentioned in an earlier post, I am going to do a mini garage reno to make it a bit more hospitable... raise the collar ties up on about half the garage, dry wall it, install two flouresant lights, re-wire 4 existing lights, put in an over head fan and add a couple of additional plugs. Once that is done the boat can return for hull stripping.

Windshield Off... interestingly, for some strange reason the rounded windshield is growing on me... it does suit the vintage of the boat. I have the wedgy glass windshield... should be interesting to put them on back to back and see which one looks and works best.

IMAG0129.jpg

Dash... got the steering wheel, dash pad and tube based AM radio out. I bet you after about 5 minutes of using the radio, the boat battery would be dead. Now it will make a great anchor!
IMAG0128.jpg

TopSide Rub Rails Off... cake. No issues. 4 screws and angle grinder to the rivit heads. Little pressure to pop the rails and bada bing they were off.
IMAG0130.jpg

Ready for Flippage... looks well.... bare. But ready for flippage.
IMAG0131.jpg

Take care fella's and I hope that everyone is enjoying spring... no winter! :)

Yah IM, don't go the Jas route, it isn't right:facepalm:

Your windshield looks in really good shape, kinda rare for our old rigs!

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

i like the traditional curved windshield too....the square glass ones remind me too much of donorboats and other 70s-culture atrocities. would you rather have a '62 VW splittie or a shag lined '73 dodge van? (hint: guess which one is worth about 10x as much)

Novus plastic polish is made for the job of restoring plastic windshields.

i'd try to ebay the radio before tossing it. there might be someone who wants one for his perfect resto of an early-60s ChrisCraft and is willing to pay. tubes....wow...................

Hey IM, Got her flipped? Here's a link to a windshield polishing how-to. Woodonglass used it on his LoneStar and I used it on my tinny. Your shield looks a lot better than mine. My WS has a lot of crazing but its all clear and shiny now. You should have seen it before I polished. All green and cloudy.

Ga - thanks man!!! I will give that process a shot. A good polishing should make it look fantastic. Have I flipped it? Not quite yet. Need to grab some help... likely Friday. Tomorrow I am going to roll it out so that I can tear the garage apart. Really looking forward to start stripping the hull... then officially I will be moving forward and beyond JI!!!

Barato - I agree!! :)

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Had some early boat time this today --- got the boat out of the garage and ripped out all the insulation from the garage. Also cleared out about half of what was in the garage attic...getting it ready for some construction action. Likely not going to be too much action until next week as my wife's grandmother had a stroke... so we will be tending to her for most of the weekend. However, here are a few shots of er flipped!

IMAG0133.jpg

IMAG0134.jpg

Look closely... can you see the one issue... I hope you can see what I see... 1 rivet head has been sheared off. The shaft of the rivet is still in tact... just the head is gonzo. A little JB Weld perhaps...or drill it, some 5200 and a new rivet...? I'll have to look closer and decide.

IMAG0135.jpg

Plan is to strip the hull and leave it bare but shark hide it. Paint on the sides. Transom bare alum at this point.

Now... the next photo is what our back covered porch has turned into... I have not recieved corporate approval of the mess... but the good news is that Mrs. Motion has approved a speedy re-construct of the garage ceiling!! Yeh!

IMAG0132.jpg

Later fellow tinnies!

IM - She don't float too good like that. LOL. Since that reevit is on the bottom pop it out and some stainless hardware & 5200 will fix that up quick. That's looks like a knee brace - you should secure it cause it could lead to more popped rivets. You working on a glasser with all the FG?

Sorry about the Mrs. grandmother, hope everything turns out OK.

Hey GA... ya good call there about the knee brace. A carriage bolt and some 5200 would seal and strengthen. Glasser? Come on now! :) The tinny mob would be at my front door so quick armed with sawsalls and angle grinders!!! I'll tell you though, that is some nasty stuff to work with.

Thanks about the grandmother. She's purdy tough... had three strokes in the past year. When asked by the doctor this time if she were to go into a coma how much effort does she want the doctors to put in to revive her she says "I want to go x country skiing... do everything you can!". Keep in mind she's 95!!! Quite the will to live.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

I actually managed to get a some work done on Friday evening --- but first, despite spending much of the weekend in the hospital, we did manage to find some time to play with the kids... made a nice little rink for some mid winter skating. A much needed reprive from the hospital --- kids really needed (adults too!) to blow of some steam and get outside. And yes, Grandmom is doing better despite picking up pneumonia... the will to live is a very strong motivator!

IMAG0139.jpg

For those of you who know their Starcrafts, this is my FIL's boat... any idea what model this is? For the life of me, I cannot remember. It's a 14' boat, open fishing boat.

IMAG0136.jpg

IMAG0138.jpg

And just so you don't think that there was no work done on the "Starcraft Project"... I did manage to remove all the insulation (notice I did not include the "F" word...:D... There is still much work to be done in the garage first, but one step at a time here. I will just keep chipping away at it... Sorry for the lowsy cell phone photo...

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

I've been meaning to flood my back yard for ice skating/hockey but it's been way to warm down this way lately. I'll not complain too much though.

I had that exact model of 14 footer, only in red. That's a great boat! Sadly she had to be sold. But, she was the motivator to search for other free/nearly free Starcrafts:D

I know what you mean!!! In our case there is usually so much snow that we cannot do this... but because it has been so mild, I was able to shovel the snow off the ice. Don't know if you spotted it, but there are 2 GT snowracers on the ice by the dock... only the second time used since x-mas --- no snow here either.

Agreed on the boat... it is a great, stable boat. We have a 10 hp on it and it planes out with the fam!! :)
