There is a great boat repair guy west of Dundas,Ont. His name is Paul. His info is on kijiji. The is another guy(jim) in the niagara pen, but I would not use him.
Paul does some pretty major repair work on aluminum boats.

IM - Early Christmas, I hope. Is this one of those elusive Junipers, too? LOL

Each project boat has a code name ---- this one is Juniper. The next project will be code named "cedar".. :)

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

If getting this other hull does not pan out, I have a plan b finally. I will re-skin the hull of the boat myself. I have access to aluminum sheets at cost that can be plasma cut to dimensions I request. I will use a combination of PL Premium, 5200 and heavy duty rivets to completely re-skin the hull of the boat. All of the shops that I spoke with thought that re-skinning was a good idea except that it would be too expensive for them to do it for me. Strengthens and seals.

The new hull may work out great. If it doesn't, I am stoked to try this out.

Just a quick update post Xmas festivities.

Before you go onto plan B.......make DARN sure a 16' closed bow runabout is the boat you really want. I had a lot of fun with my Jupiter and it was a great boat but I longed for an open bow the whole time I had it. Then ended up with an 18' which was a more substantial hull in every way yet still fits in my garage. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Ez - for the next 5 to 8 years it is as big of a boat that I can tow. For the types of lakes that we run, 16' will be just fine. We keep our vehicles for as long as we can as it is really nice not have car payments!! But I hear what you are saying. Right now the kids are really quite small and my wife prefers a closed bow boat.... so all that said, the 16' footer fits the bill. I am holding out for plan A this weekend anyways. Plan B is always good to have.

I think I was being a bit slooow this morning (hadn't had a cup of coffee!)... if I am reading what you wrote correctly, it will be more difficult to sell a hull which has experienced a plan B!

I wouldn't buy it. Just because there's too many available that wouldn't have that issue.

This is what I'm going through with my jetstar, but it's what I have and easy to power...

I'm keeping my eyes open for a cuddy in my price range though, it will give me more space and give the family room to relax, and then keep the jetstar for smaller things...

But every time I see an SS in my price range, it goes so fast I can't even get a chance to look at it...
And Cuddy, every time I see a good option its out of my price range, to far away, or just needs to much $$ to be put into it...

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Happy new year everyone!!! A new year.... a new hull! I will be picking it up in the next week or two, once I get my spare trailer fixed. Boat hull is in good shape... no pitting or corrosion. Boat also comes with a working 65 HP Johnson stinger. Paid $400 for the package. Boat has a bubble windshield with a windshield wiper. Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I will also be chopping up the hull I have now. I can get more cents per pound if the aluminum is not in the form of a boat, but in the form of aluminum strips. Cheers.
