Was going to reply on the paint gun, but looks like the other guys have it covered quite well. :)

Yes they do. The only thing I would like to add though is maybe cleaning the tip. Sometimes the gun will come with a wrench to pull if out. (I'm talking about the spray nozzle that the meter rod goes through) Pulling it out will make it a lot easier to clean.

I love your fighting spirit Jim. Your positive attitude helps beat all that cancer stuff! Keep it up brother!

OK... another quick question.... it just dawned on me that I don't have registration numbers or the word Starcraft on the sides anymore!! Where is everyone getting their numbers/letters --- on line or local?

Hi Jim, contact Mike at www.vinylapproach.com. He has done all mine and does a great job at a real good price.

Ya man!! Da Fumes! Da Fumes!!! Actually... they weren't as bad as I thought... largely cause I had both barn doors wide open!

Well this is how it went down... I rode to work and back on Friday... normally not a big deal but with the humidex it was a rather warm 94 F... and after 30 miles I was plum tuckered out!! Specially for the start of the riding season... the heat will knock it right out of me! Anyways, my wife was kind enough to pick up the etching primer and the Johnson OEM paint from the marine that isn't on water in the afternoon. After we got the kiddies to bed, I went out and etched and primed the bow and gunwales. It had cooled a bit and the humidity... well it was less but not really ideal.

This morning is where the fun began. I mixed the paint with acetone --- roughly 25% acetone and 75% paint. It was fairly watery. I mixed in a bucket -- roughly a quart's worth. After some experimentation on a piece of cardboard, I got at it. Put down a light coat. Waited about 20 minutes or so and put down another. Couple things I learned:

1. Never paint whilst your neighbor is using a leaf blower!! Ooops! A little bit of plant bits got stuck in the paint!!!
2. 1 quart would likely do the hull!!! I had about 3/4 of a quart left!!! More on that in a bit!
3. I'm not really that good at this painting stuff... did my best... and I guess that's all I can ask for really!!
4. I got really hot in the monkey suit and full face mask.... so some sweat dripped on the wet paint. This didn't go particularly well!!! But I thought... ahhh well. That's what you get sometimes for free!! So I kinda wiped it up and laid down a bunch of spray. Came out pretty good. We'll see long term on that one!!! Yikes!
5. The color chosen I thought would have been darker but came out lighter than I thought... Yup went Blue... just thought it would go well with what a lady friend of my wife called the interior as "warm tones" (whatever the heck that means!!!) Looks good in the dark though!

Not done hear guys.. so hang with my long windedness!! So after about an hour I went out and looked at the job... it was ok... or ok'ish. I made the decision for better or worse to lay on another coat. It was still really tacky, so thought why not. Filled only the canister this time and really hit it... drained the canister and this is how it turned out folks:

Not bad for the price of a sprayer... Not pro though. Good enough for me though.

Also got the bubble aluminum pretty shiney... tomorrow is the plastic cleaning:

Gotta give Starcraft credit: The stuff really was built tough. Properly tough. 45 years old and still going.

Have a great weekend (regular or long) fellas!!!

The paint looks great, but I LOVE the windshield wiper! That thing is super cool.

Jim - the paint looks "warm tone" (???) to me so it ought to match the interior. Looking good. The windshield AL is shiny too. Are you using Woodonglass's plexi polishing method? I can vouch for how good it works. I hate to say it, but the wiper is gonna more for the "Ah" factor. But still cool looking, none the less. Father's Day float is looking real do-able, Jim.

Thanks guys... movin' towards that fathers day splash! Windshield wiper is quite retro'ish... but man would it complicated to steer, use the throttle and clear the windscreen all at once! It would be like a one legged man in a butt kicking contest...

Still trying figure out what a warm tone is... the blue was called wedge wood --- which according to my wife is some kind of fancy china that she likes. The interior is wood and brown/beige. Awwww we'll, I'll just stick with the doing part!

Hey IM - As long as the wife is happy with the decor it's perfect. ;) One thing for sure, you (and the wife) have made this Jupiter stand out from the crowd. She is a beauty!

Just like mine. Not really purple, but a definite purplish cast to it, A common Jetson light trait and it is white when on.

Looks real nice with all the masking off Jim, Kiddos look like they approve as well.
What's your Sunday weather like? We are under a heavy snowfall advisory had a least 5"'s already, broken tree branches everywhere. Gotta love spring in the Great White North

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Thanks guys.

Kfa - really is purple! GA - cool to know that it turns white when lit! Gibb's - ya the blue is actually pretty cool now that it's dried... it was really a lot lighter than I was thinking it was going to be at first. Now it's fine. Glen - snow? Man that sucks! It's close to 80 F here today going to 102 f tomorrow with the humid ex!!! You guys can keep that white fluffy stuff!! I was tempted to jump in the lake this aft it feels quite muggy here.

Got the windshield cleaned up this aft --- used macguirs -- spelling --- headlight cleaning system. Came up pretty good. Windshield wiper really did a number on the plastic after 45 years of use... i'all post so pics of it installed in a little while!
