I still really despise the whole car dealership experience.

You and me both, bro.

Ya it's no wonder there is only 33 million Kanucks... just hangin' bout all the time... building igloos, huntin' and fishin'...;)
Hah. love it! Many years ago (when we were still kids!) I used to tease my wife about having to chain down their igloo so it wouldn't float away. After all, they lived way up by Montreal!

I've been away a couple days getting my lift to the lake, you've been making great progress! I see splash of the year potential!

the woodworking is absolutely spectacular Jim...breathing new life into these ol' gals is one thing, but buddy your style of handcraftmanship is a wonder to be hold.
I'm quite like the wood finishing on boats as it reminds me of the yellow cedar wood vessels that I worked on throughout the coast of BC.:)

Rusty... man... I'm blushing now!!! Thanks man! Means a lot. Like everyone does... a piece of each one of is goes into these boats and the result is something unique, no doubt about it.

Installed Gas Tank:

IMAG0338.jpg

So there you have it... a couple of minor things to prep for paint and then it's motor time!!! Here is what needs to come down from the cottage --- trailer and motor are going to be used....

IMAG0027.jpg

So a couple of notes from the weekends work.... had a little trouble with space for the gas hose!!!

IMAG0336.jpg

So I used the original Alum piece which had elbows and connected it using two 2.5" pieces of the hose in the picture above. You can see it in the background in the picture below...

IMAG0337.jpg

So there you have it....Getting really close. Another interesting thing is we bought a vehicle on Saturday!! So now we have MCS (multiple car syndrome)! Finally settled on the same car as my Wife has but with a 5spd manual and a 2007 model! Auto's are not rated to tow curiously... Mazda is putting a factory hitch on --- but only available for manual transmission cars! We just weren't diggin' spending 40K on a crossover to tow the boat.... so it works for us really well to go this route. This way also we get to keep the other two cars for going to work and the new one gets used for cottage runs/trips/towing etc --- but doesn't get beat up haulin' kids around or travelling to work. The manual transmission will tow 2000 lbs... so good to go there. Also it is properly quick --- 220 hp with a 5spd really moves a long!!! Interesting note: Exact same car in the UK will tow 3300 lbs... in fact all the cars/small crossovers are rated to tow 50+% more over there. Funny how that is.

Anyway guys, have a great evening. Really looking forward to putting a little paint down all being well next weekend!!

Take care,

Jim

why do i have the suspicion that the tow ratings diff has more to do with product liability laws in the US than tow capacity varying with longitude?

You and me both brutha...that and there is a lot more $ margin in an suv or truck then a car...hmmmmm. usta be you could tow the weight of your car... Of course most were stick shift and there was no reality tv!

Which windshield (JUP-1 or JUP-2) are you using on this project? I love the windshield in the first photo. I currently have a 1966 Starcraft Jupiter and even though my windshield is perfect, as soon as I find a good '68 & up Jupiter windshield for mine I am swapping it out.

Great job on the restoration. Keep up the good work.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Thanks guys!!! JC - gotta go with the round one as I accidentally cracked the first jup's windshield left piece during the garage rebuild... oops! I'm gonna try sloping the windscreen a bit more and see how that looks. Besides the dash pad is designed around it now!!! I started polishing it today and ya know its coming out pretty nice!

Glad to see you're getting close, IM. You are gonna be getting a lot of looks at the ramp on Splash Day. And a lot of questions from the onlookers because she is so damn good looking. The durability of tin with beautiful woodwork. A nice combination.
