Speaking of Admirals, where does she fall w/ regards to battery placement?

As long as the proper connections can be made and in a timely manner, she doesn't mind where it is!:D

Thanks man! :D (it sounds like a pain to ship anyways)

And I'm keeping an eye open for a junk glasser, I have atleast 2 months until it can hit the water anyways :)
I think my neighbors would call the cops if I showed up with a 4th boat though... even if it was only for a day or two.

Hey Jim, welcome to iBoats and the Starcraft corner here on the site!

Quick point of clarification,

Just messin with ya a little:)

Bummer on the corrosion! First step would be to get that as clean as humanly possible. Then maybe a big thin hunk of alum notch trowled with JB Weld or 3m 5200 to seal it up good and reinforce the whole thing.

You have a great project there!

Welcome!

I love it!! My kind of Love there!

Ya but it's really just "temporary"... just reminder her how many shoes she has.... or maybe not. Just find a place to store it while you get what you want. Much easier to deal with!!!

Now there's an image that will sell some young guns on a Starmada sticker:

Starmada picking the glasser carrion clean...... Not from this dual allegiance house. But it certainly congers up an image......

Questions folks:

1. Picked up a no frills HVLP sprayer last night... looks fine. Basic instructions. However, there are no instructions on how to properly clean the thing. None. Anyone have any advice on how to clean it when I am done spraying.

2. Should the spray nossle thing be vertical or horizontal for painting the bow. I have it set so the metal chunks are at the top and bottom --- sorta 12 and 6 if you will.

Thanks.

Hey Jim, for the most part you want a vertical spray pattern, in some tight spots you can turn it horizontal. Cleaning is not too bad, I empty the cup and wipe out all excess paint with a rag, then put a small amount of mineral spirits in the cup and spray till it comes clean, then remove the front pattern nozzle and spray it till it is clean. Disconnect the air and pull the spray pattern adjustment knob and rod out the rear of the gun and clean it. Wipe and paint off the handle and cup and your good to go. The first time you use it make sure you practice a bit to get the settings right on a piece of cardboard. The key is having the paint at the right consistency.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

to add to what Glen said, they make cheap molded plastic viscosity measuring cups you can find at auto paint store if not local bldg supp/hdwe. these help til you have a "feel" for where you want viscostiy for best sprayage.

the "ears" should be horizontal to give you a vertical spray pattern

if you don't have a water separator/filter in your air line, add one before you start painting. even the disposable $10 ones will greatly improve your results. start with your pressure about 35-40 psi

old toothbrush is v. helpful for cleaning gun

do lots of practice spraying on the cardboard, enamel is cheap, redoing your prep time on hull is not

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Guys,

Thanks a bunch for the input... makes sense what you are saying. We shall see how it goes this weekend!!

OK, so I have a name for her and a splash date goal:

Northern Therapy
Fathers Day 2012

There you have it... seems fitting. See guys, i was diagnosed 2 years ago with a rare brain disease... thankfully determined to be non-terminal. But the drug cocktail that I was having to take to stay alive, was ultimately fatal!!! ---- the old the cure is worse than the disease!!! After much time in and out of hospitals, this past fall, a wonderful doctor, neurologist and physicist came up with a game plan and I got radiation treatment to massively reduce the pain and reduce the meds from a cocktail to a few a day. Shortly afterwards, I bought a Starcraft. The rest as they say is history.

As I move towards the end of this project and journey, i am thankful and humbled for all the support, wisdom and humour that all have contributed. It has been truly a blessing to have been able to set life in motion once again in a positive and productive direction and to be part of a great group of guys who are as positive about boats as they are about life!

We are on this rock once --- may as well enjoy it to the fullest!!!

Thanks guys.

Jim - A perfect name. Now you can tell the glasser dudes that tin is good for your health. I sincerely hope all stays in check and you get many, many, many years of enjoyment from Northern Therapy. And I know you're gonna have a great Father's /Splash Day. :D

EDIT - And thanks for sharing your health issues. You didn't have to do that, Jim. But you set a splash date and we have to hold you to it, ya know. ;)

Sorry to hear about your health issues Jim, but it's great that a boat and some good doctoring was able to give you the Northern Therapy you needed. Fathers day it is, it will be a great day.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Thanks fellas!! It's gonna be a blast! Really looking forward to it... now I just gotta get it done!

The controversial "bubble" windshield's aluminum trim is now buffed and shining as good as it'll get... just need to get the plastic part cleaned up. Other than that just waiting on the etching primer to come in ---- tough to find in these parts for some strange reason! Also order the Johnson white paint for my motor as well --- figured may as well spruce it up as it neeeeeeds to be refreshed after so many years.

Have a great one guys!
