IM - simply scrumptious. :D

"higgly piggly" ride

I think I understand. I hate looking for new transport. No idea of your price range but the new Jeep Grand Cherokee has been getting nothing but rave reviews in the auto press. The mpg with a V6 is good for a bigger SUV and the rear seat is just a little larger than the DB9. My old Triumph Spitfire had more rear seat room and it didn't even have a rear seat.

Thanks fellas.... I agree. I to think it loos pretty darn sharp!!!

GA--- ya trying to stay with a 4 pot or something pretty darn efficient. $5.00 a gallon really puts a dent in ones wallet. The big thing is that my wife will drive it 60+ % of the time in our town... 35% on trips to the cottage and elsewhere and 5% or less of the time pulling a boat. So really we are trying to find a do it all vehicle. Each manufacturer has it's pluses... but it's what you can't live with that I look at. Surprisingly to me, I liked he Chevy the most. I wasn't expecting to. We'll see what happens... so far the Honda, Toyota, Nissan and at this point Mazda are out. Ford likely too as my wife does not like driving turbo engines ( I had one years ago... ya I tend to agree there.). Not much left... I don't fit it any Korean cars.... so the Chevy is at the top of the list kinda by default... and oh ya, I don't fit in the the Cherokee either!!

I really like that steering wheel.

I believe the Equinox has always been a solid vehicle. I wasn't aware there was a new Escape. Just checked it out and am not really a fan. I'm sure there's plenty of 2012's around. I used to be a die-hard GM guy but my experiences with a couple mid-2000's models drove me to a Honda. The Honda was a good car but I didn't feel that it was of significantly better quality than the domestics to warrant the price premium. I'm now in a brand new Ford having never had a Ford in my life and absolutely loving it. I see the 2012 Escape is available with the same 3.0 motor that is in my Fusion. That motor hauls BUTT and is pretty thrifty to boot. The Synch system is fantastic.

This is my car http://cdnedge.vinsolutions.com/AP/2535-2-9522270-55840941-0-0/55840941.jpg I think it's pretty badass looking for a standard mid-size car. :)

Nice lookin' wheels!! Basically the same motor that is in my our Mazda 6 --- and yes it does haul butt!!

I looked at the Ford Escape and actually drove a rental to New Hampshire and back a couple of years ago and really liked it... Trouble is that it is about and inch short of headroom for me!! So it went off the list.

One thing is that I went and drove every CUV out there that I could think of and have then formed my opions based on my experiences. Everyone has there own... but I felt for my own interest, I would give every manufacturer the benefit of the doubt.

Ya the Chevy surprised me... other than my tranny issue (which in truth is self induced) and the stupid steering shaft, the Malibu has been bullet proof for the last 100,000 miles. The Equinox rides great, the interior is great and quiet and it drove really well --- no "higgly piggly" business. I also fit really well --- lots of head and leg room. Biggest issue --- it's not sporty. Kinda gotta expect that really. It is a CUV. That's the hang up right now. The RAV was really pretty sporty... but as I said it had other issues which were show stoppers. So... the process continues. Somewhere there will be a compromise! :)

if you're looking at 4 cyl car-utes, have you considered the Forester or OB? my wife has been really happy with her subie, and the AWD would be nice on slick ramp.

PS i hope you;'re happy. those pix cost the fedl gummint a keyboard when i slobbered all over it. REALLY nice woodwork set off by killer wheel!

Thanks man!!! No worries... just a keyboard!!!

Ya, I have always liked the subbies... my Dad had two. I drove the new forester and just couldn't get comfortable in it... much bigger though then the previous gen. Also, only rated for 1000lbs without trailer brakes!

To be honest, I am concerned about pulling 1500 lbs, a fully loaded trunk and the whole family in the car with a 4 pot...I would prefer a 6, but fuel prices are what they are... I may have to cave here for the sake of safety.

Ahhh ha!!! The floor arrived and I installed it!! Pheeewwww... Anyway turned out pretty good really. I ran low on the glue under the splashwell... so I had to put it on thinner and as a result the floor did not adhere as well as the rest... but what can you do.

Also got the side aluminum braces back in and riveted up as well as the new vent hose for the gas tank up front.

Kinda slow at it this week... picking away at things really. But, I am looking at getting the gas tank in, bulk head, side panels, windshield cleaned up, wiring, tow hooks and drain holes installed this weekend. Doesn't leave much after that to get done aside from painting and motor. Gettin' close to a splash here guys...

Car Saga Update:

Ok. We have done long test drives of 2 of the 4 cars on our short list and they are out for a variety of reasons. 1 car has been re-added as things changed from 2011 to 2012... the Subaru Forester now has an adjustable passenger front seat for height. So, tonight I pick it up for a 2 hour test ride. Also, after talking with Subaru, the tow rating is 2400 lbs straight up --- so the trailer brake thing was not correct on the website I read it from. Anyway, I hope that this one works as in principle and on paper like it. So, we shall see. Interesting process, but at this point I still really despise the whole car dealership experience. Now, we just ask for a non arrogant sales person. If we don't like him/her immediately, we just ask for another. Surpisingly, it actually helps. Anyway... that's that.

Re: 1968 Starcraft Jupiter - Rebuild

Ok... Subaru is out... yah... just not right. So did a bunch of research last night and I may have come up with a much cheaper option that will work just fine. Have to run it by Mrs. Motion tonight.

Back to boats: got the gasket cut for the gas tank piece....
IMAG0332.jpg

Ran into a bit of a problem though... I have 3/8" gas hose.... but the fitting on the gas tank piece is 1/4"...

IMAG0333.jpg

So options are to step down the hose from 3/8" to 1/4" or try to find a 3/8" fitting (my preference).

Got my fuel fill hose... super flexible and easy to use. Just ready to install at this point. I will show it all hooked up.

Also got some almost all of the wiring run and tucked away. Just need to do final connect and test. I also put the final coat of spar varnish on the wood pieces in the splash well area.

A little progress is still progress.

Happy Canadian Long Weekend --- Victoria Day or May 24 as it is more fondly called up here!!
