Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild
Thanks a bunch guys! I have really enjoyed this project and am really looking forward to not building it anymore - just fishin, eh!
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Hey Glen, sorry about that. I thought I had some pretty good details in there.
So here is the scoop...
On my Jet I sanded everything. Started course and gradually worked my way to fine. On the hull, everything was done by hand (sander leaves swirls, no good). The last pass was with a red 3M Metal Sanding Pad. Actually a couple of passes. Going this route gives the hull that "brushed" or "satin" look to it. It was a lot of work!
Now hoss on the other hand polished his hull. I'll not describe the details on that as I completely stink at this method.
Here's the deal...
Both our boats need the protection from the alum oxidizing. That's where the SharkHide comes in. It's not a polish or anything like that, just a protectant.
To apply, grab yourself a soft cloth (cloth baby diaper or similar works best). Soak the cloth in the SH until it's just about to drip sort of. Check this out - it dries pretty fast. So you want to work quickly maintaining that wet edge. It's really easy to wipe on, but again, it dries quick.
I'm sure I left out some details, if you start at about #489 and read on from there I'm sure there is some good stuff mixed in there
