Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Teamster/Lon/Starman - thanks guys, I was totally unaware there could be interference issues with with the FF/GPS. My last boat I had my FF/GPS hooked up to the same batt as my TM and didn't have any problems so that sort of thing wasn't even on my radar. I can easily re-route my power lines with inline fuses and such. For the sea trial I'll just leave it as is. Thanks!

Good to see ya TII - I do love my pies;)

Wood - thanks for the well wishes buddy:)

This morning I started working on the stern light. Got it wired up (you can see my additional shrink wrap off to the side there)...

...and tucked in with the other wiring...
P1070579.jpg

Then I got to work on the switch/block side. I was able to get the stern light running fine but I couldn't seem to get the illumination on the switch to work at all. I monkeyed with it for prolly an hour:facepalm: Ugh, frustrating.

I remember a little while back saying I wanted this to be a bare bones, simple, very basic fishing rig. Since the beginning actually. I have strayed and now I totally remember why I said that:rolleyes:

I believe I'll give these switches about 30 more seconds of my time. If I can't get em to work they are getting swapped out for simple push/pulls.

So, I bagged out on the nav lights and started clearing out the boat. While I still have a lot to do for a complete project, she is now ready for the road and prepped for a...

Sea Trial!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too Jas, You better eat up today so you got plenty of energy for splashing tomorrow. :D

On the switches - you sure the indicator lights work? If I remember right those were a bottom feeder Ebay find.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Jason, I hope I'm not saying the obvious and you probably know this, but if the switches have LED indicators they need exact wiring or no workee. Each one needs three wires; +, - and feed to the loads. And + and feed can't be reversed like an unlit or non LED lit switch. Just trying to help while visions of big turkey drumsticks dance through my head. Oh, and pie!

Well fellas, I haven't officially asked for the time off (for good behavior?)tomorrow. I am hoping the opportunity will present itself today;)

Thanks truck! Yah, I was mulling that over as I tried every combination I could think of. The light may very well be dead. I'll have to check that out.

Thanks for the input buddy, appreciated. I do believe I had it hooked like you describe there (actually prolly a half dozen different times) but maybe not. I'll give it another go - no work I'm baggin it. Thanks man!

Its a blustery day, Poo Bear.

I hope that you get it in the water safely. Wear your PFD and watch out for the dead heads in Sanford Lake there all over especially up by the highway. Looking forward to seeing the video.

Happy Thanksgiving

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Running it this way gives the pump continuous power and is fused at the block

I know next to nothing about electrical. I do understand the logic of keeping the bilge hot, especially if you are mooring it and have a float switch to trip it. I know you already troubleshot this, but do you think the continuous power is tricking that switch into thinking that it's on.

Maybe be a completely stupid comment and not even sure that makes sense. Also, I bet the little bulb is burned out on the other one. Those are cool little switches, but small little bulbs (think Christmas tree lights) always seem to give me fits.

Happy thanksgiving... Alot to be thankful for.

Happy Thanksgiving and good luck with the splash. Sorry your tach seems to be set up wrong. Sounded like under 1k RPM to me. I'll be waiting to see what you're sitting on when you splash it :p FYI, you can't have too many pics and videos!!

Thanks GAII! Yah today was kinda windy and cold. Hoping tomorrow is a little better. I think as long as the water is high enough to launch I should be aok.

Good thinkin mccraney, buuuuut - it was actually lit steady before I hooked up the auto line (I think I did anyway). Those illuminated lights look really cool lit up in the dim light. I might get over them pretty quick if I can't get em working correctly though.

Agreed man, totally agree. Way blessed around my place. Have a good one!:)

Thanks buddy! Yah, that tach bottomed out when I gave it just a little gas - way off. I'll fiddle with it in the a.m. I think.

Yah, I am kinda wondering what I'll be sitting on to eh! I might want to figure that out.

Happy Thanksgiving Starmada... and Jas good luck on the sea trial... I pulling for you man.

Hi Jas:

Happy Thanksgiving from North of 49! I'm not sure which tach you have but my new one has a switch for 4, 6, and 8 cylinders which needed to be set for the appropriate engine. Perhaps yours is the same? Still, shame it's not glass, eh?

Hey KW, good to see ya! Yah, I believe I may have the tach figured. Ah, no. If she were glass I'd be still grinding:p

So when I originally set the tach the light was kinda dim. I can now see that my arrow stamp was stamped a little kittywampus. I originally thought I had it set at 5P but now realize it was actually set between 2P and 3P:rolleyes:

After some reading, I see that just about all of the posts over in the J/E and Electronics forums say 12 pole stator set to 6p. The fella at Teleflex is certain it's 10 pole stator set to 5P. This morning I moved it to 6P and we'll see how that goes...

I installed these to strap down my deep cell batt...

Yah, they snapped right off when I cranked on em. I knew they would, I have no idea why I even put em in there in the first place. Weak.

So, this morning I installed these D rings...
