Thanks rheagler!

Progress accountability post...

More electrical work this morning. I'll shoot up some photos when I know it actually works, eh!

You don't have to worry about the pitchforks thursday because we will all be too fat to run and depressed about the Lions...But I will be up around 6:30 on Friday sharpening the tines!!!

Good to see ya fellas! Got a neighbor, a true fisherman and even angry Canuck to stop by!;)

Today is (and would have been) a spetacular day to be on the water! Bluebird day, warm, perfect! I'm so close.

I worked on the electrical some more. Good news is the Minn Kota is all wired and I actually saw the prop spin:D

More good news, is I have power to the pilge pump and the illuminated switch. Bad news is that power they are not getting power at the times I am expecting:facepalm: And, the auto part of the pump is unknown:rolleyes:

The auto part of the bilge pump and the illuminated part of the switch are sorta messin with my head right now:confused: I think I might just about have it figured - or I may need to visit the electronics forum.

I'm working on it:)

EDIT: Wait a minute, I think I got it....

Yup, got it figured (well like 95%).

So, time for an update.

Here is how I am joining my wires (for the most part). Here are my bilge pump wires crimped, heat shrink...

...and more heat shrink...
P1070573.jpg

This space back here will see traffic with PFD's and such thrown in so I added split loom and tied it up...
P1070575.jpg

This bilge pump has an automatic float switch built in so I had to run the main feed then this additional line...
P1070576.jpg

The piece in my hand goes to the fuse block, the piece running out and off to the right goes to the pump, and the piece running down with the terminal connects to the switch. Running it this way gives the pump continuous power and is fused at the block.

Here's how things are looking under the console with the fuse block and switches...

With the cover on...

So far that makes the bilge pump and Minn Kota all hooked up and ready for action.

Here's the big mess...
P1070594.jpg

P1070595.jpg

Side note #1 - I picked up that Die Hard Group 27 Deep Cell for my trolling motor.

Side note #2 - I've decided the Die Hard will power all my stuff with the starting batt being just that, exclusively.

Shot of the switches, I just have power running to the bottom one for the bilge pump. Hard to see but it's lit up there, kinda cool...

The 5% that I haven't figured out is now that illuminated light is always on. I can't quite figure how to have it come on only when I switch the pump on. Ah well, I'm not sweating it.

I feel waaaaaaayyyyyy better about putting this boat in the water now I have a back up trolling motor and the bilge pump ready to go. Yah, way better:D

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Quick question. Why the trolling motor power running thru the fuse block?

Most 12v I have seen have a separate battery system and inline, and my 24v system has a 50amp breaker at the positive post of series #1 battery?

#1 The cables that came with the TM were too short so I had to add anyway. I figured I'd just add right back to the block.

#2 As I understand it they also need to be fused, so, I figured I'd just run it to the fuse block rather than running an inline fuse straight to the batt. 6, half dozen, one or the other.

Yah, I know I am under (and over) fused on the block. Those in place in the photo there were just what I had on hand to get things up and running. Sorry should have mentioned that.

By all means, if you guys see something off lemme know:)

Thanks!

Nothing off at all, just that several of the juice experts say have that breaker/fuse as close to the battery as possible.

Also, have you dry tested using the foot pedal as far as positioning? Some of those cables are rigid and where you sit to operate the motor can be uncomfortable.

Huh, hadn't heard that before. Wonder why? No biggie, I spose it's still pretty close I guess. If I have problems that would be an easy reroute.

Yah, I was pretending to fish a lil up on the deck there running the TM:D

I'm a fan of keeping the fuse/breaker very close to the battery on the tm,..And having the shortest length of cable to them possible,..

I always keep the sonar/gps on a separate power source from my tm,....I have seen the screens blank out and back on when the tm is powered on and off because of voltage drop,.....I don't like waiting for my screens to catch back up,..

No doubt about that.
Even the big $$$$$ units will pickup interference from the trolling motors when hooked to the same battery

In fact, I prefer to run the depthfinders right to the battery using an in-line fuse. This way there is no chance of interference coming from other components that are hooked into the fuse block-like bilge, and livewell pumps.

Re: 1968 15' Starcraft Jet Star Rebuild

Glad some are chipping in.

Since I am 24v for the MOTORGUIDE, the FF is wired direct to the house battery with an inline fuse.

I guess I posed the question to jas so he can get some additional input.

In my opinion whether 12v/24v/36v, a trolling motor setup should have its own battery bank/system and protected accordingly.

A FF has to be 12v, and since they have their own switching, best hooked up direct to the house battery with an inline.
