A fiberglass boat will weigh twice as much as your Jetstar and if the boat is older it could be starting to get waterlogged and that will add even more weight. The plastic prop will flex more than aluminum but the manufacture takes that into account when they build them. I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you open it up on the water. You better be holding on to your cap.

This is like a Harry Potter movie. Waiting for the ending is killing me. Launch the thing already. The suspense is driving me nuts. I have been watching this thread for too long. Come on man your killing me.

Wellsir, it's killing me too, but if I launch it today it will just sit and stare. Waiting for the tendons and arteries to hook the brain to the brawn! :D

(Unlike Harry Potter, there will be no sequel!!)

I know I know, I just cant wait for you to get that boat on the water. Of all the aluminum restores on this forum, yours is my favorite.

Thanks, that's quite a compliment! I started out as a bumbling fool and just hope to share some of what I've learned so it won't take others as long! (Or cost as much).

I'm still a bumbling fool, just a faster one.

What are you lacking to get that thing on the water? Is something wrong with the engine?

I'm waiting for the throttle & shift cables and the wiring harness to connect the control to the motor & system check tach/gauge. I got a good price on the motor, but it didn't include any controls at all or oil tank, just the steering arm link.

The throttle & shift cables came in yesterday & I installed them this morning. It was pretty straightforward except I don't know the part names so it's a good thing there are lots of pictures in the shop manual! Just a little tricky fitting fingers into where they need to go. Followed the instructions to a "T".

When I turn the adjusting nut (1) on the throttle cable, it doesn't really seem to make much of any difference at all in the position of the throttle lever stop screw (2), it seems to be in the correct position no matter what I do to the nut. To me, the throttle handle on the control feels a little stiff, but not too bad really. Hard to tell, I've never operated one like this before.

Not even any leftover parts, except I found this little spring in the bottom of the lower cover, it's been there since I got it, so I know "I didn't do it". No clue what it might be.

So now just waiting on the battery cable & harness. They were supposed to be shipped two days ago, but no updates from the vendor on the order, so I sent an email asking where they were today.

The spring looks like it is either out a fuel pump or from a adjusting screw. It most was likely shot from another outboard. Looks like your cables are bang on when you fire it up you might need to adjust the throttle cable a little bit so that you have the proper idle with the controls in neutral and the idle lever all the way down. The controls should be a little stiff when you hook up the outboard. I have felt some that are really stiff and others that aren't also does your controls have a have a tension adjuster? Some do and some don't

Good luck I personally hate working on appliances as the last two times ended with trips to Lowes to buy new ones.

Thanks, turned out to be a minor problem that I've dealt with before in Sears refrigerators & didn't take long. This fridge is only 3 or 4 years old and it's the worst one we've ever owned.

Anyway, just wanted to say that 13' was the perfect cable length!!

Lakelover your thread has been very good to me and I love the resto. You did great work and may have raised the bar too high for me but I will keep plugging. You sure you don't want to do another?

Thanks a million and glad it's helpful. At first I just wanted a running boat, but as I took it apart, I saw that it was in worse shape than I thought. Since I want this boat to last me a good many years, as things went along, I decided to get mostly new parts for what I replaced. I confuse even myself. On some things, I'm a perfectionist; on others I'm delighted with "good enough". I guess I should call it being a pragmatist.

As far as wanting to do it again? I don't think so...............................

You're right.

I was mistaken. The harness is in stock, the battery cable isn't, so I cancelled that and ordered it at another place for $2 more.

I did not have to do anything to break the appliances they self destructed all on there own. Kenmore elite washer spider assemble blew a part on the high speed spin. Not pretty killed the drum when the screws from the wash basket hit the plastic and cut it in half. Parts were more than a Samsung front loader then two weeks ago the control panel in the Kenmore Dryer fried itself. Back to Lowes to get the Samsung dryer that matches the washer.

Hopefully you will have all your parts shortly so you can sea test the Jetstar. That thing should haul butt with the 50 on it.

Hope that means you will be on lake soon showing off that beautiful boat. You just can't buy a new one like that.
