Thanks guys. Five minutes after I finished a couple of bugs decided to commit suicide in the fresh paint. Grrrrrrr. Still have another coat to do so they'll sand out. Going to fill the counter sunk, bunk holes with some epoxy and call 'em good.

Getting a little ahead of myself here but I figured out my seat arrangement. Going with the Wise brand. Putting the quick disconnect table in the back center for drinks, lunch, and FISH.

I put those seats in my last boat and they were great. You should be pleased. That table is cool! Might have to think about that for mine.

Yep, that's what I'm smellin'. I'm not sure of the name of joint that will mate the deck pieces together but the table should go right over it so it wil have double thickness for added support. :) I was thinking of epoxying some angle iron to the deck to secure the louge seats. Less holes, the better.

Re: 1964 Arkansas Traveler Restoration

So I've been on the lookout for another motor with more HP. I found (2) 1965 Merc 650 65hp's. Both run but they need a little tlc. Came with a stand too. One of them has a stator which is sweet; toss that solar idea out the window. ;>p He also threw in another rack n' pinion setup. All for $200 smackaroons. :) :) :) Now......how to get them out of my truck.....

Here's the Craigslist link. http://sacramento.craigslist.org/boa/2237620772.html

I'll post some better pics when I get 'em out.

Sweet, noting runs like a Merc :D! And you have a parts motor too, very cool. Did you check out the compression on them?

I haven't checked compression yet but didn't care for the price. :). Once I do, that will give me a better idea of which one I'll end up using.

Nice... That merc will look great on there! If they are both mostly intact and running, I'd be hesitant to use one as a 'parts' motor- Fix both of them, and have a spare whenever you need one!

Yeah the year matches the style perfectly. My 56 Evinrude is cool and I'll keep it for a rainy day..but I need more power Captain! I emailed the guy asking to break down exactly what the issues are with each and he sent this.

okay,
The one with a top
has integrated pull start
I used for a full season
has new impeller
only goes forward.
needs fluid changed regularly

the one with no top
has old impeller
gear section does not leak water in (been out 3 times with it)
has forward, neutral and reverse.
makes more power than the other engine
currently has magneto on it with 2 bolts holding it to test fire it and has brand new spark plugs
has a stator.
needs vacuum balance tube replaced before you take it to the lake on side of engine with fuel pump

both units could definately use new internal wiring harness.

Magneto not attached to anything needs to have the magnets recharged to work. Joe Hunt magnetos in Rancho Cordova can do that.
I can get you parts for the engines if needed.
the magneto parts are nearly impossible to get so don't lose or break them. The cap and rotor are literally 200.00 for the kit if you can find them.

My plans before I found the bigger engine.

Put the good magneto on the engine with the stator, put the new impeller on the engine with the stator, buy a new internal wiring harness for the engine with the stator. find a way to mount the top from the other engine on it. (Or cl up another one) and have it repainted to factory colors and never tell anyone it wasn't original. Make sure to keep the other engine for parts just in case. replace all of the rubber hoses inside the engine. The fuel pumps on both seem to work fine and the carbs were cleaned before the engines were stored. probably need to be done again. I don't have the pdf manual for the engine anymore but I do have a website that will help out.

Re: 1964 Arkansas Traveler Restoration

Am I going to end up needing a plate or something for the outer transom now? I have the factory holes in the transom for something..just not sure what it is.
