I think the diagram I have is different than yours . I don’t see the spring you referred to earlier .image.jpg

That shaft looks OK to me just grungy and that rubber grommet cushions the reverse lock mech - you can pull it out if you hold the SS down at the same time - after you've blasted.
On page 39 of your manual you will see the propshaft assembly; the spring is part 39 in this manual page it preloads the cam follower. Don't worry about the SS seals.

The water pump base just pulls straight up right ? The inside diameter of the merc oil seal compared to the Sierra seal sure looks different . As a rule the merc /quicksilver parts are preferred over the Sierra right ?

If you are going to remove the lower pump body check for a screw on the side, above the cav plate marked FLUSH this must be removed before you can take out the body if there isn't one (only 2 screws) go ahead ; once you have it out you can see which seal it uses; there might be an O-ring on the pump body as well . I think they've listed the upper and lower seals. Don't lose or damage the shims.

They don’t have the upper gasket for the water pump housing .
Luckily they have the lower one .
I tore that one .
The upper one looks to be still in not bad shape .
Any other source for these ?

Lower pump housing is not wanting to come out .. Screws on the side are out .. soaking the studs with WD .. slightly tapping on the top of studs for some vibration..
Heat ? Or try and back the studs out with vise grips maybe ?
I surely don’t want to ring the studs off …

Yessir, flatten all the tabs around the nut then put a screwdriver in the slot and turn the nut clockwise. The spring is right under the cowling (in this case Nr. 3) so put your hand under it then remove the nut completely wear gloves and eye protection.

That picture shows a 7.5 / 9.8 Recoil.-----But most of those recoils use a left hand thread.

Yeah that's the only one I have but they just moved the assembly from the cowl in the older motors to that stand alone style.

So when this comes loose it’s got a spring that will jump out and be difficult putting back together .
I envision things flying everywhere ..
Lol !

Nope.-----It should be fairly easy to manage.----No such thing as ---" difficult "----work on these simple motors.
