This is the switch I picked up .. So without the electrical connector as shown in diagram I can still bypass that to go directly to switch right ?
Yes you can "hard wire" the switch into the cable that goes into the control box (the best way is to solder the wires to the lugs); if it were my motor and I was going to use it full time I would clean up the motor end with better wiring [so you know what wire goes where] and no spade connectors. Is that rectifier held on with 2 bolts? There should be a ground strap attached to the upper cowl and the block for the choke.

The choke solenoid was grounded to the magneto bracket . You can see it on one of the pics .. I will be replacing wires fuel lines and such for sure . I'm just wanting to hook a hose to it and try and start it . Plus I am learning more about how it all wires together so hopefully I'm less clueless when the time comes to put everything back together .. I want to re-paint it and dis- assemble but don't want to go too far with the tear down ... I would hate to take it all apart and not get things back together properly ..

In my opinion a 60 year old motor must be taken apart for full inspection and seal replacement.

Racerone your probably right .. And that may still be in play .. Right now I just want to hear it run .. If you only had my mechanical skill set you would probably be a bit apprehensive.. My head tells me if it ain’t broke don’t fix it .. At least at the moment .lol!

Just simple nuts and bolts work.-----Likely needs new bearings and seals.----At least have a look through bypass covers , lets you look at pistons / rings.

Ok , need some wire deciphering help .. I was told not to put 12v on the magneto. The new switch instructions said to hook the wire from mag to one of the terminals marked M .. And the ground from it to a second terminal marked M..
Once the battery is hooked up this isn’t going to put 12v on the magneto is it ?
Also trying to figure out the remaining wires to hook up . There are 2 wires hooked to the pos side and one of the post on the solenoid. Where should those hook up ?

Sorry I posted wrong pic 75D292C2-B835-42B4-882B-4BDB9FC02DC0.jpeg
The magneto was originally hooked up to the on off switch on the control box ..
also On the B terminal on the switch .. would that just be a single wire to the Battery ? And then hook up the main big cables to the battery ..

Is this the other end of the control box wiring harness? The M terminals on the switch should be connected to the neg (engine ground) and the side terminal of the mag. The B[attery] terminal is connected to a +12 volt wire, the S term. is connected to the starter solenoid ( the one with the yellow crimp connector) and C connects to the choke solenoid spade connector.
If you have a multimeter or test light you can test the hookup before you power it.

The package for the switch explains the "M"s on the switch. One ends up at the magneto and the other is to ground.

Do you have the boat-side harness? Takes care of a lot of the connections if you do.

The only wires going to the control box was the ones leading to the magneto .

I did hook the mag to the switch as the instructions said .. The guy I got it from just cut the wires that was leading to the switch when he took it off the boat .. I dont have a harness .. I dont think he did either ..
Choke is hooked up correctly as per mercs post ..

Merc there is 2 wires coming from the solenoid . The one with red tape on the large poss post and the other yellow crimped wire hooked to the small post on the side ..Do you think they used the wire on the big poss post to power the switch instead of powering from the battery ?

Which wire do I hook up to the I terminal ?
View attachment 352694
The I terminal is for battery powered ignition systems not used in this case, the large red wire is the +12v feed so you can hook it up to the B terminal. The only things that are going to have +12v to them (when you turn/push the key) are the starter and choke - the magneto makes its own spark.

Got it hooked up .. It took a minute to get it to start .. I don’t think the warm up bar was advancing the throttle enough so I disconnected it a gave it a bit more throttle and then it fired up .. But at least I know it runs now ..
I made a vid but I guess it’s to long to post without making it shorter
