Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks guys!

Woody- Arch asked the other day about a name too and I have been pondering it with the wife. My thing is I wanted to incorporate our names or just my wife and kids names. Alison(wife), Sydney(daughter-4), Aidan(son-2), and Mick- although I don't need to be in the name.

I really liked "The AlSydAidan" but my wife doesn't like it. She likes something like "SAM ???"

So to answer your questions- we are still working on it and I would accept any and all opinions:D

The splash date- ??? I have to wait for my letters to come in that I ordered yesterday from iBoats. I thought I ordered them last week but apparently I never did:eek: They will hopefully be here by the end of the week and I'm hoping by the time they are hear I will be ready to go.

Tomorrow my dad and possibly a friend will be putting the boat on the trailer, and getting the rollers all lined up. Then we will mount the motor on the transom bracket mounts.

From there, either tomorrow afternoon or on Wednesday I will be taking the boat to have the motor compression tested. After that is done I will basically be ready to go as long as everything turns out peachy with the motor:confused::D That is the wild card right now and the only thing that will hold me back from being in the water this weekend or early next week:eek::D

That is great news mick, it is nice to see it all finnaly come together for you. Boat is looking top notch! Have you looked into that 3m clear plastic sheeting at all? May be some cheep insurance for the gas fill spot. Once I get my gell coat restored or painted it will go on my boat.

How about "The ASYLAM"? Incorporates all the family first names with Alison's first two letters backwards, after all, that's the way she'll be facing when you're towing the kids on the tube!

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Well- the boat is on the trailer:)

she is looking awesome perched up on there:)

It took my friend Jarad, my dad, and myself a couple hours to get it on the trailer, and too line up all the rollers to the correct heights.

After she was on the trailer we went to put the motor on. I knew it was going to be tight but I ended up having to shave down some of steel on the motor mount and then we got her in there:)

Then I took her for a ride down to our local boat place and they enjoyed seeing it. I picked up the seats, somegas tank hose, and some clamps and I headed home. I'm putting in the tank, and the seats tonight and then dropping it off there tomorrow morning for the steering mount and for them to go over the engine.

They said she would be ready by the weekend!!! Not sure if I want to take it out then or wait until Monday or Tuesday.

Hey Mick,
Great news man.
I really hope that everything checks out with the motor. Don't forget the pic's and video of the splash.
Pic's of the boat on her trailer would be great too.
Take care my friend.

Here you go Bob! I'll post these quick and then I gotta get back to work. I gotta get the seats put together and in, and I have to get the fuel tank in and lines run before I drop it off tomorrow.

BTW- I like FAMILY ASYLAM. Still trying to get the wife over the term Insane Asylum though.

Here she is in the trailer- and my helpers my dad up their and my buddy Jarad! If it weren't for their help today I wouldn't be typing right now- Thanks! This pic is after the two hours to get to this point getting all the rollers adjusted and balanced on both sides!

The looks on their faces literally say it all- it was HOT, and it took like 4-5 go arounds until we finally got the motor hung!

Then of course the kids and my nieces had to get in and play around honking the horn. Also, take a look at the Tee Nee vinyls I found on the internet on the wheel wells.

Here she is back in the garage tonight getting ready to have her saddles put in! And more importantly her "trough" put in- because I heard this old lady really likes to drink!!!

Ok- Back to work!!!

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Well Mick,
I'll say it the beat way I can. That was worth waiting for.
She really does look great. Doesn't look like the same boat at all.
I was never very fond of the blue but it turned out great. Very classic look and it will turn some heads in and out of the water.
Out f%%*ing standing, ( As one of my old USMC DI's would say)
Take care
Bob

Looks amazing. Good thoughts your way for the motor. I'm sure it will get the best care cuz if the guys at the boat shop are into it, they're going to do whatever they can to get it running great for you.

Wow...looks great. Do you have a bud with a boat who can shadow you on the lake during the splash test? I'm thinking a scream-n-fly vid from a nearby boat would really top off your thread...and it will scream-n-fly once you get that Rude tuned. That old girl will drink the gas if you leave it at WOT for very long...trick is to get it on plane, up to speed and then throttle back slightly...won't be as thirsty that way.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

WOW- I didn't expect that many replies. Sorry I haven't gotten back to you guys sooner. I was up the latest I ever was last night. I had to get everything ready to take to the boat place so I had to do it. I ended up coming in a 4:45am!!! The darn moon was going down and I saw the sky starting to light up on the horizon to the east!

Anyway- Thanks Again- I am very proud at this point. I called the boat place twice today asking how it was going. I'm going through withdrawal know she is not in the garage. I told them take care of her! I'm about to call again just to make sure the place is locked up good!

Here's what I did last night
- got the new tank fuel gauge in
- got the fuel tank put in place
- got the vent hose, fill up hose, and fuel hose to the engine hooked up
- got the sender wire and ground wires hooked up.
- got the seats put together
- got them where I wanted them, cut the carpet, put down the rest of the velcro everywhere-
- put the seats back in place and measured for the angle iron and marked it
- then I sanded the marked areas and epoxied it to the floor-
then cleaned up

May not seem like alot but in boat time that took me from 8:30pm-4:30am. Just goes to show how much time all the little stuff takes!

I will do my best to get good video of the first splash down. I don't really know anybody with another boat but we will take some good shots of her running don't worry. I'll prob take of home video camera and I'll record in HD- no idea how to upload that onto my computer though with the small cd?

Here are the pics from last night.

This is what it looks like when you are doing velcro- PITA! The seat cutout.
95a205e5.jpg
[/IMG]
The seats are nice- they actually pull out fully into a lounge if you want to anchor down and soak up some rays(wife)- she's afraid of what's in the water!

Oh- yeh- the 19 gallon tank all hooked up and ready to have gas come and go like no tomorrow!!! That's fine- I'll enjoy every minute of it!

[/IMG]

The marks made to match up to the brackets on the seats. I'm doing like Arch did- I'm attaching angle iron to the floor with epoxy and then attaching the seats to that with bolts to avoid drilling into the floor.

Angle iron attached

And what she looked like all finished. I'm gonna give the epoxy time to set up until I get the boat back and then I'll put the seats in.

So at this point I just wait to hopefully here good news and to get her back. When I get her back I just have to put in the seats, put on my registration numbers/letters, attach the fish finder to the transom, and the pinto to the transom.

Then it's off to splash down. My buddy Jarad who helped the other day has been following this thread pretty much everyday since the beginning and he is most likely going to be coming with me for the first time/couple times.

I may watch a movie with the wife tonight!
