Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration
Thanks guys for all the comments- they are greatly appreciated!
Arch I agree now that with these old boats being brought back to life that you mine as well go ahead and spend the extra couple days to make the trailer look just as good- especially if it is as old as the boat
I got the rollers cut to size, put in place, and got the push button stops on the rollers. I also put the bow keel roller loosely in place and put on the jack.
I just got done doing the windshield with Plastx. One thing I will mention with the lexan is that it is "flimsy" in the middle. Remember it is only 1/8" thick. Still, if I get 4-5 years out of it before I splurge for a new glass windshield I'd be very happy. I did notice in the one corner there was a spider crack in the plastic
I don't know if there was any way to avoid this but again, it's an 1/8" plastic home made job intended to save you money- for how long? We'll see!
I'm in the process now of making a template for my motor mounts. I don't know how many other mottor have what I have, but my motor has two brackets that get bolted down through the transom with 2 bolts each. Then the motor sits in them and there are bolts on the brackets that go into the motor.
It says in my manual to use the provided template but I don't have that
so right now I'm putting the brackets on the motor, taping them in place, and then I am going to drill my holes. I will use apiece of cardboard on the other side then to get my template. With the new transom being a bit higher, and with my outer holes on the transom being filled during the filler process I can't just go back and reuse- I'm basically starting over finding my ceter point and mounting points- not fun!
Well- back to work!
Thanks again for the comments
