Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

The boat is really starting to look extremely nice. You've done a great job with it so far. Now that the windshield is in place it's starting to look closer to being complete. Have fun with the trailer. I need to get my boat onto my other trailer soon so I can get to working on my boat trailer. Doing a great job.

Mick,
It took awhile to catch up on all your progress. Everything is really starting to come together. The windshield looks great. Very nice work.
Take care

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

I'm wondering- if I used a heat gun along the inside middle of the windshield- can I get the slight bow/curve back in the windshield like the original windshield had??????

Hey Mick... I noticed that you're not getting much input with this little dilema. While it does look pretty good the way it is, I (like you) wouldn't stop until I'm satisfied. I'd be tempted to use the heat gun (carefully), and maybe some kind of form, like a slight bow (convex shape) cut out of a 2x4 or any other scrap and hold it to the inside of windshield pressing outward with a little pressure and heat. Problem is: You're going to be trying to heat a broad area to stretch the plastic a little to accomplish this. I don't know how "compliant" the lexan will be. But I'd be trying, knowing full well that I might be buying another piece of lexan, and going about it another way if this method fails. Good luck Bro... She's looking fantastic!

Another take on the windshield curve...depends on how particular you are. It looks great like it is and only a couple of people are ever going to know about the curvature...you and maybe the guy who owned the boat before. I wouldn't sweat it, but that's just me.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

I just got back from the boat place. I got all the rollers I need minus 2 endcaps that haven't come in yet. The bad news- I got one of the seats but the other is on backorder until July 11:(

last night I got some Velcro in the back of the boat done, got the battery in, the bilge drain tube hooked up, and I sprayed all the nuts and bolts white that needed to be white.

That sucks on the seat Mick, just keep on plugging away...you will be surprised at what else you have to get done! I was amazed at all the little things that I had to get done and am still working on! Just get her all ready and put the seat in and head to the lake!

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks for the replies guys! I am going to look for that headlight polish- I think I remember reading that somewhere on here once before.

As far as the windshield goes- TM I'm going with you one this one. I'm going to leave it alone. Norm I figured the same thing you said about it could be hit a home run or strike out! Well I'm not spending $100 more dollars on a windshield, and I'm definitely not putting all the time into it again. After they frame is painted again- it is done!

TC- Thanks, I'm still wrapping up the trailer. Tonight I got just about everything I needed to get assembled. I need the boat place to order me another 12"L X 2.5"W roller for that back brackets on either side of the keel. They ordered everything I needed but just put it on the shelf when it came in. Turned out someone bought one of the rollers and 2 of my end caps!!! I was pissed to say the least.

Arch- I think I'm gonna see if there are 2 light grey seats in stock. I opened the white one tonight and it isn't really bright white- more of an off-white. So the wife agreed on the light grey so that's what I'm gonna do. I was thinking then as well that the bimini top fabric I could get to match the seats. That way everything ties together.

Here are the pics from tonight

All my white pieces that I had to paint after a clear coat= pain in the A_S!

Here is one of the double seats. you can see it's more of an off-white than bright white like the walls

Here are the rollers for the side bunks that I had to cut down to 3.5"

Here's where they will go- 5 in each roller

Some pics of the trailer- sorry it's dark- that's when I get to work

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

continued...

I still have a couple pieces to install like the bow/keel roller, the bow arm supports, and the jack. But I have a feeling the way this project has gone that I will be adjusting heights of all these rollers and stuff as the boat goes on so I'm holding off on installing those couple pieces till the boat gets to that point. I just put the rollers that are on there now back in the place where they were before because they seemed to line up like the bottom of my hull- we'll see!!!

I redid the electrical and lights on the trailer and everything worked except for a side marker light- the bulb was broken:mad:

I really can't put the boat on the trailer till I get that other 12" roller because it goes on one of the brackets that are empty right now right next to the keel roller.

You see that side bunk rollers- one is leaning a little more than the other- I did that purposefully to see which would work better once we started to roll the boat up. That way we only need to adjust one.

Oh- I found on the drivers side right in front of the tire well the original Tee Nee Trailer Company tag. It's under paint so I need to use some thinner to clean it off. Guess it's not a holsclaw after all:)

Goodnight!!!

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks EZ.

My back roller won't be in until Tuesday:mad: Looks like that is when the boat will go on the trailer:D

That gives me the weekend to get done with the odds and ends stuff like finishing the windshield frame and getting it painted and attached, getting the holes drilled for the motor mounts, etc...

Mick a little tip next time you paint bolts screws or nuts. Punch the bolt or screw through the cardbord. When you paint them the threds will stay clean and make painting them a lot quicker and easier. For the nuts thred them on the bolt so the thredes are flush with the edge of the nut. then pull them tight aginst the cardbord and paint.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Hey micks,

My wife drives an Avalon. The Plexiglass lenses were totally fogged and scratched. I saw this video on the net so I thought i would try it. I got an Old sears buffer, some Pearl Drops tooth polish and some windex and I'll be darned if it didn't work great.
Who-da thunk it. Toothpaste, watere and a buffer.

Do what you think is best but I'm gunna try it on my Old windshield and see if it will bring it back to life like it did my wifes headlight lenses.

Mick, that trailer is looking mighty fine!! Goes to show what a little elbow grease and attention to detail can do. Can't wait for some "daytime" pics!!

Mick,

July 4th will be the 7th month anniversary of this thread and on your project, is that boat done yet?:D

Great work on the trailer, It really is looking good. I like how you are trying to keep everything as close to original as possible.

Keep it up, you will be on the water soon!

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Isaac- I hope I'm on or real close to on the water by then. I called my boat place today and they can get me 2 light grey seats in by next Tuesday. So I cancelled the white seats and no longer have to wait 3 weeks for the other one to come in. Wow- it's been 7 months!

Mike- you are the man for finding useful youtube videos:p

Bob- the roller will be in Tuesday as well.

Thanks for the tip Insanity- I thought about that while I was spraying them but I new they would need a couple coats so I just went with the "fast" method:D

Not much to report tonight. I got the windshield frames holes all filled, sanded them, sanded both frames again, cleaned them up, and primed them again with 2 coats of zinc phosphate.

After that, I pulled out the motor manual:eek: I started tinkering around with the maintenance schedule that they have for the motor. So I drained the oil, re-calibrated the carbs, cleaned the fuel filter, messed around with the throttle cable a bit, and just basically got a better understanding of what needs to be addressed before I take it in so I have an understanding of what is going on.

That's it for tonight- Goodnight!!!
