Hey Mick,
The engine looks great.
I would go with snap in carpet myself.
Nice work

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Just got done fitting in and cutting the carpet:) $35 bucks from HD. then I'm gonna prime the floor and walls. I spent about 2 hours and went through 3 old raggy tshirts and a half can of acetone to scrub all the dirt off the floors and walls. Then I sanding everything with the orbital sander and wiped it down again.

I'll post pics later. Carpet pics are in my photobucket link.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Thanks guys for the replies. Right now I'm thinking I'm going to go with velcro? That may change like everything else I change my mind on.

Thanks EZ- I'm pretty excited how it came out too. I have to wait to wax it though because it still didn't feel ready tonight.

Tonight I got the floor and walls cleaned up, got my carpet cut in, and got the primer/undercoater on. I bought new foam rollers at ace yesterday because I only had one left. Well, the roller started falling apart so I start looking for the new ones and low and behold I can't find them! Arch I think have the same squirrel problems you have! So needless to say I did about half the priming with a brush- that sucked! I should have painted the darn thing when I had the cap off.

Tomorrows supposed to be cooler so I'll try and get the lower unit on the motor cleaned up and sprayed.

Goodnight

She's looking really nice though Mick. The motor cover looks pretty close to what it looks like int hat picture, just a slight difference, but close enough. You are doing a great job on this boat. Can't wait to see her put together and the motor on her.

Isaac- Nice to here from you - haven't seen you on here in a while. Thanks for the compliments! I will for sure have some videos of her getting wet!

Mick the boat is looking Great! That interior is going to be really nice!

I have been working on a new restoration of my own. After having to give up on the Ranger because of the repair bill to my jeep, We have been dying to get another boat. I picked up a 21ft starcraft aluminum hull and have been working on her. Just getting ready to paint the hull of the boat.

I never saw, but did you get a new trailer? or rebuild the old one?

Keep up all the good work! You will be on the water in almost no time!

Hey guys- thanks for the replies.

Speaking of the trailer. I was at my boat place today looking at trailers. I think I'm going to go with an old tinnie(?). They had it sandblasted and repainted. The price is right compared to two other new ones I was looking at. This trailer is rated at 1300 and the others were 1200. It has bigger wheels than the two new ones and everything is welded not bolted.

as long as the trailer is solid no rust, It sounds like a winner to me.

Isaac- I actually looked at the trailer months ago and it was one of the options back then. Since then they they had a bunch of trailers go out to be sand blasted and repainted for resale. It looks really good now- all black, two new wheels, new rollers, etc... I think that's the way I'm going to go because it saves me $400 too!

Tonight, damn it's 3am again! Tonight I got the first coat of paint on the floor and walls- looks really good too.

I got three coats of wax on the cowl. Check out the roll of tape on the bottom of the cowl- it's like a mirror. And if you look close enough you can see me to the left of the starflite emblem!

Then I painted the lower half of the motor. Gonna do a second coat tomorrow and call it done- it looks good!

Then I made the template for my lexan(that I have to get yet- HD has it in stock so it's just a matter of running over there)

Hey micks,

Still looking great! I am curious to what paint did you use for the motor? just the krylon spray paint?

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

I used a evinrude charcoal metallic for the engine, krylon for the emblems, and rustoleum for the white and aluminum colors. I will get a pic up of all of them then.

Anybody have any clue as to what size bimimi top I would get for my boat. I looked on I boats but Arkansas Traveler isn't on there.

Re: 1962 Arkansas Traveler restoration

Not much to report tonight. I got the second and final coat on the floor and walls. My wife came out and said she liked the way the white looked on the walls and she didn't like the idea of the speckled/faux finish. So that puts an end to the painting projects on the boat!!! Saved me a couple hours of work too- what a gal:)

I also ordered the chocks for the bow, and the cleats for the stern. Perko makes some that closely resemble the originals.

I will also include the pics of the spray paints that some of you asked about.

Here is the Evinrude/Johnson Metallic Charcoal paint I used for the rubrail, cowl, and lower unit of the motor. This is some paint in a can! I've used spray paint before but this is by far the toughest spray paint I've used. It comes out thick and tacky- not run down like alot of others.

Here are all the others that I used
19d42079.jpg
[/IMG]
In order-
1- the Zinc Phosphate primer is used to prime aluminum,
2- The Rustoleum Metallic Aluminum I used to paint the windshield frames and a couple of the pieces on my cowl,
3- The Metallic Charcoal,
4- Rustoleum Gloss White I used on the cowl,
5- Krylon Outdoor Spaces Metallic Gold I used for the emblems on the cowl, 6- Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Gloss Global Blue I used for the knob on my throttle cable and on the emblems on my cowl because it match up really close to the pettit ocean blue, and
7- Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Cherry Red I used on the cowl emblem and on my throttle knob.

I decided to paint the windshield frames just to keep everything looking the same and to match. The other reason, and probably the main reason is because I am going to use the 3m premium filler to fill all the extra holes that were drilled into the frames and this is a way to cover them up. Technically painting is not done on the boat yet I guess:mad:

I maid a list of things that need to be done yet.
1. Tomorrow my neighbor and I are going to the boat store to do the title transfer and to pick up the other trailer! I will post the pics tomorrow.
2. Get the motor hung on the boat and get the windshield done.
3. I am going to look the trailer over and I may paint it a little to match the boat. Just looking at it quick the other day I think its going to need a couple little things so I will have to do that. Once that is done I will crank the boat on it!
4. Take the boat to the guy who is going to work on the motor for me. He is going to do a compression test, do the rewiring, and basically clean it up. Hopefully he lets me tinker around with him so I can learn a thing or two.
5. Take the boat to my boat place so they can mount the bracket for my old motor for the teleflex steering. I will have them do the gas tank too since that needs new components for it to work with my gas gauge.
6. GET THIS BAD BOY ON THE WATER!!!! Hopefully with 2-3 weeks tops!
7. After that, start looking into having someone redo the bimini top that was on it. The old one had red/maroon fabric so I need to get new fabric and take that somewhere to have it sewn up.

Sorry for the long post but I'm getting very anxious since I'm very near the end!

Gotta get to bed. Goodnight!
